    The smell of old books and a cake just as it finishes baking.

    All of my favorite scents are tied to memories I've had or delicious food I've eaten. I would like a video on scent memory! Love this channel!!!

    Agree with you on the scent of baking bread. I also like the smell of new books. As far as natural smells go, I love magnolia and lavender flowers, rosemary and petrichor.

    • @BrainStuffShow
      @BrainStuffShow  8 лет назад +2

      New book smell AND old book smell, yes! And lavender, rosemary, and petrichor, absolutely. I have a block against lots of white floral scents, though -- even fresh flowers. They smell cloying to me -- like rotting. Brains are weird. /Lauren

    I like the commercials that refer to this phenomenon as "going nose blind." It's funny.

    Is this why going to the store almost kills me? People wear so much perfume, etc. you can smell them 2-3 aisles away. It gets my asthma going almost every trip. Sure it's nice to them but they're nearly killing other people with it.

    First, this is a great channel. Second, as I become more and more of an old geezer (65) I've noticed that while my sight is oddly getting way better, my sense of smell seems to be deterioriating. Whassup wit dat?

    What I'll never understand is, WHY we keep smelling or touching a wound when we know it's bad>
    Plus, why does the Sun or a Bright Light make you sneeze?

    So, when we smell something, it means that molecules of that substance is inside our nostrils and is in contact with neurons. That means, when we smell poop... Oh damn!

    I know I'm going to sound strange but the smell I most like is when you walk under the sun dried grass and it just crumples under your feet. Maybe it's because it brings back so many memories of my childhood.

  • @TONOCLAY

    I enjoy many smells. Fresh tires on a car, gasoline/diesel, new car smell, new carpet, fresh cut grass, coffee being made(even though I don't like coffee), smoke from a wood fire.

    How about when you eat something sweet and eat something really sweet then go back to something less sweet you can't taste the sweetness anymore?

  • @aprilireland4596
    @aprilireland4596 8 лет назад +1

    One of my fave smells is that "new car" smell. One of my other ones is, and I know this may sound weird, but the scent of a vacuum cleaner. Which somehow reminds me of my childhood. Which brings me to a question that maybe you guys could answer on here. Why do certain smell trigger certain memories?

    • @Opuntia

    People keep telling me I "lack common scents." Does that mean I have an unusual odor about me?

    • @loving110995
      @loving110995 8 лет назад +1

      I hope you're just joking.. if so nice pun.. if not then they're meaning "common sense".. which there's something known as homophones.. which is two or more words that sound the same but have different meanings.. cents is money. since means a point in time.. scents are smells.. and sense would be like knowing something..

    • @Master_Therion
      @Master_Therion 8 лет назад +1

      Angela Gray Thanks. Yes, it was a joke. I know sometimes it's hard to tell from a comment online. ^_^ I like subtle humor, but often I'm too subtle.

    How does an aroma molecule get to our noses? If I smell poop, does that mean that a molecule of poop floating around in the air went into my nose? Does that mean that whenever we smell something we are smelling a molecule of that thing that broke off and was carried by the air into our noses?

    • @loving110995
      @loving110995 8 лет назад

      now you have me wondering if every time we smell shit if we have actual poop go up our noses. or if we smell chicken if a molecule of chicken went in our nose..

      It explains why after someone smoked a joint or anything like that and they ask if they smell everyone says no because they are used to it also. Just a heads up EVERYONE CAN SMELL YOU AFTER YOU SMOKED A JOINT!. I can smell someone halfway across a store after they smoked.

    I like the smell of petrol too, thats an odd one. Though in terms of my favorite scent, I'm afraid to say that it has to be the sweat of a certain ex. I don't know why but it drove me absolutely insane, it was like an aphrodisiac. She was a horrible, evil, manipulative, pathological lying cheat but despite knowing this, the second I got a taste of her I'd turn in to a wild animal and our clothes would be off. How that works I don't know, I've never experienced anything like it before or since.

    Why do males seem to(almost) always smell their food before the 1st mouthfull while females don't?It's uncanny...My theory is that it's instinct for men (think cave men & enemies with poison so a food taster might well be required) I also think that women have traditionally been responsible for food preparation etc, so anything suspicious would be made edible courtesy of condiments etc before serving.Mind you~If the food-taster got sick &/or died,I imagine all those involved in feeding the "boss" & the household,guests etc, would probably find themselves in a dire situation. I guess that would be good incentive to be the best,ensuring a job for life. (however long/short it may be!)

    why do we not live without a liver?

    • @medicogirl1783
      @medicogirl1783 8 лет назад

      the liver:
      -Detoxifies the blood to rid it of harmful substances such as alcohol and drugs
      -Stores some vitamins and iron
      -Stores the sugar glucose
      -Converts stored sugar to functional sugar when the body’s sugar (glucose) levels fall below normal
      -Breaks down hemoglobin as well as insulin and other hormones
      -Converts ammonia to urea, which is vital in metabolism
      -Destroys old red blood cells (called RBC’s)
      You can't live without it. Your question is irrelevant to the video though
