I courted my Smoky Mountain girl, my wife, 60 years ago in those Smokys. Love of my live and the best person I ever met. Laid her to rest 2021 up on Water Rock Knob where she first kissed me. She graduated from a tiny school. A truly magnificent person. Miss her awfully. Like her mountains, a grand and glorious person. Loved you, girl.
Honestly I can’t think of a more beautiful area to be laid to rest of a more romantic setting for a kiss. I am so sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing such fond memories.

I grew up in Colorado and hiked many places in the Rockies. When my husband and I came through here years ago, I knew I had to live here. These mountains are ancient and the feeling of sacredness is palpable.

The Smoky Mountains are truly a magnificent place. Many people from the west will say "those aren't true mountains" or "Its just a bunch of trees". People like that cannot even begin to understand or appreciate the biological diversity and uniqueness of the smokys. I've been to many national parks and the great smokys is truly unique in every way. I'm thankful I live an hour from the park and I never get tired of it. Something keeps drawing me back and I can't explain it.

This ecosystem does not stop at the man-made borders of the park. They extend into millions of acres of the southern Appalachians.
Like the Pisgah, and Nantahala national forests, to name two.
I've lived here practically my whole 63 years of life.
Lately I'm shocked that outsiders have moved here putting personal profit ahead of preservation.
Mt bikers, mostly from western states, where the geology, and ecosystems are different, are causing erosion in the watersheds. Causing sedimentation to be washed into the streams destroying the habitat of the hellbenders, other salamanders, and fish. I try to stop them but the powers that be are more occupied with commercial profits than concern for ecological preservation.
It truly breaks my heart to watch...
Cades Cove is the Jewel of the Smokies!! It's my favorite place on the earth!! God's creation is awesome and praise God for the Smokies!!
I've been to The Smokies many, many times. The beauty of those mountains CANNOT be overstated. I'm looking forward to my next visit, hopefully in the spring.

I was born and raised here. After I served in the military I came back to the mountains. I'm not 76 year old and have helped people like Inez Burns write historical books. I love to see the comments like yours.

this is my favorite place out of all the National Parks i have visited! i go to the smokies at least 3-4 times yearly and hope to move there in the near future.....i seem to have a connection with Cades Cove....like many others i am sure.... we are blessed to have this gem to enjoy.

Im from Chattanooga I was injured I miss the mountains and trails how wonderful the wilderness wildlife water tree deers I wish had equipment and money to do it again make myself happy be from here and love it was special for and training with other scientists in wildlife officers around me how wonderful we love you and it stay safe from animals attacking are not unknown every species

I wasn’t born in The Smokies but I’ve only ever felt at home there and I hope to one day call it my permanent home.

"The People" of the Great Smokey Mountain Park were evicted many years ago....
The land was stolen from them by wealthy Democrats who wanted to create a scenic park where their motor club members could drive.
I lived in the Smokeys's as a child in a little town named Burnsville we went to Mt. Mitchelll and another place with a swimming hole. The water was so cd it would take your breath away
I used to challenge ppl who spelled the Smokies that way but my Granny told me some ppl do before she passed away
I’m in Gatlinburg right now. Really pretty trees are coming back where the forest fire was just few years back. Nature takes back over……. Just got here today can’t wait to explore tomorrow 🦉🦅🦇🐝🦧🌲🍁🌕💐🪨🌿🐢
If you have any doubt there's a God go to the Great Smoky mountains and look around and you will feel him there

One thing that was mentioned near the beginning of the video was you always come back. I've lost count how many times I've visited and it's a different experience every time.
My kids went to University Tn and we’d visit. BEAUTIFUL ❤️ we retired to the Ozarks for family reasons. We sure loved the beauty of the land and ppl

My family has had five generations that visit the Smoky mountains we used to visit it every summer I do miss it now that I'm 70
It would be really nice if someone could make a serious documentary about the Smokies....narrated by people who live there. There are many, many intelligent, experienced and capable people there. This would be true for ANY areas.

@@unitedwestand5100Watch how they destroy the beautiful world that is Appalachia. Many of them are leaving the areas they destroyed with their politics and brain dead thinking. However there are also some who are seeking to get away from the rich foreigners who trashed the place they grew up.

But don't you dare pick a pretty flower, or a ranger will through you to the ground and stomp on your face. My family and I visited there in the early 1970s, innocently my two-year-old daughter pick a few purple flowers. Next thing I knew, we were accosted by a lady ranger in no mood to be understanding! I understand the logic, if we all picked flowers on a visit, there would be no flowers left. As adults, we understand that, but 2-year-olds are innocent and should be treated gently and with understanding.

The smokies are beautiful but I find West Virginias Appalachians even more appealing.

This is the ecology of the entire SW North Carolina Region.
The GSMP is just a tiny portion of this ecological Region. A tourism abused portion.

On the North, South, and East of the tiny GSMP is three very large National Forests.
The ecological environment of the tourist saturated area of the Great Smokey Mountain Park does not stop at its borders.
The ecological environment continues for millions of square acres beyond it.
The Smokies are beautiful and exciting. This documentary is not. The first 30 minutes are just closeup, blurry shots of tree branches and flowers set against cheesy music. If you're into the "moving art" type stuff, you might enjoy this.
