Sully to this day says I am NOT a hero and I did Not save all these people's lives. WE ALL DID, giving credit to everyone on that plane. Sully is awesome
If you’re ever near Charlotte, I highly recommend visiting the museum that holds the plane. There’s also recovered baggage, crew items and passenger interviews about that day. I got to touch the wing of the plane. It was surreal standing under the fuselage and imagining it being underwater in the Hudson.
Definitely a great exhibit. Plane is currently in storage as somebody bought the hangar the Aviation Museum was leasing. Currently set to reopen in a new building in 2023.
One wouldn’t realize it from this report, but Jeff Skiles was also on this flight and was the pilot who landed the plane in Charlotte. Both Skiles and Sully had trained on the DC-7 just for this fundraising flight for the aviation museum in Charlotte, and there is a video on YT showing them going through the training and flight.
With the incredible flying expertise that Cpt. Sullenburger demonstrated the day he landed a Jumbo Jet onto (not into) the Hudson River on that fateful day, transformed him from a pilot to a full fledged Aviator. His unfailing expertise and dedication to passenger safety placed him in the same class of aviators as the Wright Brothers, John Glenn, and the crew of Apollo 13. A great credit to himself, his Airline, and to all great American Aviators. Keep up the good work, Sully.
In the mid 1960’s from Tucson to Albequerque the Frontier Airline DC 7 lost two props in a storm. I remember the stewardess checking us three kids who were flying alone. The bumpy ride and lightening was more worrisome than the still propellers.
Imagine his father didnt get him into planemodels....thats why everyone should help find them kids passion and not destroy them like "thats not real, thats not helping in real life" like my f###ing parents did all the time...
This man is a hero! And he cracked me up when just seconds before splashdown into the hudson he asked his copilot "have any ideas?" lol To have a sense of humor when facing death, it would appear that he knew they would make it!
It was definitely a serious question. In the aviation industry 1+1=3 being 2 individuals ideas + thinking together for the 3. CRM crew resource management.
PERFECT! I used to enjoy flying but now I'd rather take my car or motorhome for longer trips. Slower but more convenient, more comfortable and the motorhome costs only slightly more than an airline ticket. I still love airplanes but I don't want to be searched, inspected, scrutinized.
@Zach Snooks Ha ha, why would I want to to go London, or even to JFK? I've lived in 11 places and I plan to live in one place now. BTW, there IS a motorhome that goes over water, calm water such as lakes but not the ocean. It's called the Terra Wind and there are videos on youtube.
@Zach Snooks It's a choice. BTW, I love flying. I've flown in commercial air liners, in gliders, in helicopters, small planes, aerobatics. I'm doing what I enjoy every day.
As someone who put over 1 million frequent flyer miles on the board, glamour has long since passed the airline industry and IMO, it's not a bad thing, more people are traveling at lower prices than ever before, when the DC7 was flying the average person never even thought about flying...
It’s all very well to be nostalgic, I love these old planes too. However, you can’t beat new technology. Today the new planes are far more safer and efficient and there are far fewer crashes. Unfortunately, flying is far less comfortable for most of us who travel in economy, the tickets are cheaper than in the past. A downside is that conditions for the pilots and crew has got worse.
I wanna believe it is because Tom Hanks said he went through the script and took out anything he didn’t think was right or needed more exaggeration to be understood. He probably was looking forward to his supper and never made it in the air for more than 120 seconds 🤣
I used to love flying. It was so exciting and in s way mysterious. But the way people act on planes and everything mentioned here has turned me off. If I can avoid it at all costs I will. And sometimes there’s a LOT of cost involved!
Sully stated "It did it's job". Sully, you did your job!!! I love the story!!

He truly is a hero of a special kind!
Incredible RUclips! Thank you, Steve Hartman, for sharing this.
One of my heros...watching from Auckland
Hero for Life...Deserves all The Attention
I get emotional every time I hear about the miracle on the Hudson River.
Thank you captain

It was so nice when people dressed up to fly and just in general made themselves presentable in public

+Wilbur Snaffel Don't forget Captain Tadeusz Wrona for his amazing Warsaw landing on the engines of that jet.
Wilbur Snaffel it was an Airbus not a Jumbo Jet
Well said Wilbur, for sure.
Incredibly amazing man.
"It certainly is, if you bring your own glamour." I'm dead
Razor ship intellect and wit. A credit to the United States Air Force and his nation.

Your are right !! But please don't said that about your parent's
sully is my dawg bro real talk bro yo
Go sully
I’m afraid of flying but if he’s my pilot I’d be the first one on that plane
Me too
J.R. 100 if I knew sully was the captain I would fly to but I wouldn’t fly with anyone else
“A delay is better than a disaster.” Sully.

I don't think it was humor, but rather a serious question. His copilot could have had a final idea for splashdown... you never know.

Sully is awesome!
I want to be an airline pilot and sully is my hero
It is if you bring your own glamour................
My girlfriend's longtime friend would love the legroom on the DC-7. She absolutely cannot sit without crossing her legs thigh to thigh!

@Zach Snooks Let me know when you're going to be in the Monterey Bay area of California and I'll try to get a ride for you. I know a few plane owners.
@Zach Snooks I'll try to still be here. I'm 82 now. My next door neighbor made it to 97. I'll try to beat his record.
Cpt. Sully brought me here.. ;)
somehow lawgical

Has Sully seen Come From Away? He should get preferential seating just like Beverly Bass always does.
I will bet that Sully could land this old plane on the Hudson and get everyone out safe.
Sully
I knew the day American flight attendants walked down the aisle with plastic garbage bags service was over for good.
Sully never retrieved his tuna sandwich from the cockpit or got to eat it if this part of the movie was accurate.

Dont DCs have problems in the build it self?
He’s much nicer then Tom hanks
