- Constance: Tell me, how much longer are you going to go on making films?
Ivor Novello: I suppose that rather depends on how much longer the public want to see me in them.
Constance: It must be hard to know when it's time to throw in the towel... What a pity about that last one of yours... what was it called? "The Dodger"?
Ivor Novello: The Lodger.
Constance: The Lodger...... It must be so disappointing when something just flops like that. - Видеоклипы
I keep watch this film on every free weekend for over last 10 years😅
Respect!
This one is a real gem.
I was re-watching this gem of a film last night. You were right to upload this clip. This was a real cut-below-the-waste that only Maggie Smith can deliver. This remains one of my favorite films. I never tire of the amazing ensemble cast. BRIAN
Yap. I've never seen anything quite that. There's no starting or ending of a story, no end game, no case close, yet it had everything with just those few segments and it was wholesome! Of course I watched it many years later. But I will always admire it.
You know that popular bratty mean girls in high school movies who make it their business to make life for everyone else a living hell through their teasing? None of them have anything on this woman. No one can insult anyone like Maggie Smith. She can deliver a blow without so much as a trace of a smirk on her face.
Maggie Smith is an impoverished member of a dying English aristocracy that would soon fall to the new American Empire, where singers and film stars are the equal of Dukes and Duchess’s. Ivor Novello was a handsome talented peasant who had a clear leg up above her in the new social order… So here she’s trying to put this jumped up pantry boy in his place! Jeremy Northam is perfection ❤️
Oh my god! I died when Maggie said "flops"
Dame Maggie Smith is just outstanding in this picture.
Yes, she is.
It’s one of those absolutely Perfect movies.
She can shade better than all
I've watched this movie enough times to know some of Maggie Smith's choice lines: "Difficult color, green" when the poor female guest with the wretched husband is forced to wear a green dress for the third time in a row. "How horrid" when the description of a murder is told to her. "Did you have a dreadful journey?" "Yes, simply dreadful." "And why has Freddy Nesbitt brought that awful common little wife of his? Isabel only asked him because another gun dropped out; that's no excuse to inflict her on us all."
Luboman411 Yes, the “Difficult colour green” put down is superb. Her timing is faultless.
What about, "don't clap" cracks me up every time
"Why does one have to do these things?"
Ahahaha 💚
Today I was eating the delicious home made jam that my hosts prepare in London and I told one of them: "Now I know why Maggie Smith doesn't approve bought marmalade in Gosford Park" hahahahaha
For someone who says she is above films she knew an awful lot about the box office of The Lodger. Either she’s lying to a degree to save face or gossip she overheard.
She's trying to remind Novello (and obliquely, Mabel) that she doesn't consider them her equals.
Purchased this film for 10 pence from CEX, best 10p i ever spent.
“Tell me how much longer do you go on making films. Must be disappointing that something just FLOPS.” Maggie Smith words are like nails against a chalkboard. She’s utterly delicious 😋
a precursor to the Dowager Countess
"Tell me, how much longer are you going to go on.....making films." Surprised no one picked up on this in the comments.
Spoken as if she was speaking to a heroin addicted prostitute.
Why would someone talk to someone else like that? I’ll never get it.
Some people are just nasty
Because this is Great Britain and she's an aristocrat and he's not. So she can kick down. And so she does.
@@ameliecarre4783 I think she hates herself.
@@wasilaify Oh no. She's thinking the world of herself. But she's bitter about the gap between her social status and her financial situation.
Lmao
What a scene.. After Adam and Eve taught the world once, what would happen to us if we let the devil trick us or get into our minds,God showed us all through the bible his power..
This man's videos flopped like a lot of videos out here because everyone is not into the something, and when they reach powerful people, everything goes south..
Stand strong against those who have no intentions of stopping because it only takes one day, like every day, that something miraculous has happened.. check this movie out someday✨️
God bless you all
McGonagall??????
Yep, still going strong.
