Enjoy your videos, very educational and pleasing, you remind me of one of my buddies from the Beaches Amateur Radio Association, Jacksonville , Fl. Hopefully will have my first couple of hives set up early July 2023.
You mentioned using the bucket to stop black mold from growing in the jar. Mold will grow in the dark. An easy way to stop or slow the growth of mold is to add apple cider vinegar to the syrup. you only need a small amount. about 1 table spoon to a gallon of water. it also has other health benefits to honeybees.
Amazing video thanks for the tips Bruce! Love the community feeder haha! I have a bit of trouble understanding how the feeder used at minute 9:02 works, it seems simple but I just cannot wrap my head around it.
Yes, the Jiffy Round feeder. Well, it sets over the hole on the inner cover and when the little clear piece is in place and your sugar water is in, the bees can come up through the hole in the middle to take a drink but can’t get into the empty upper box. If I remember, I will try to show it more clearly next video. Thanks for watching 😎
The other bee keeper for personal use I watch live in Willow Alaska. Big difference from your place. And they are planning on moving further north, and taking their bees with them. That should be interesting.
Hi DC, It is a strange year so far: We had a couple of unseasonably chilly nights last week and now warm again so both the plants and the bees are confused. I see some drone brood but only a few drones around. Now, I am hearing of a lot of swarms in my area - I hope these queens are well mated but it would probably be better for them to wait and swarm about this time next month. Have a great day Sir.
Hi Don, I have been seeing wildflower pollen coming in just not much nectar. I expect to see them in the Loquat trees and Maple trees real soon. It is amazing to me that 10 miles from me at the beech they are bringing in tons of nectar.
Hi Kristin, I do recommend you find a local bee club and hang out with some beekeepers but shoot me an email if you are looking for specific information. bruceandhisbees@gmail.com

Cool, thanks!
What kind of smoker fuel r u using?
Hi David, I use only pine needles from the trees in my garden. It costs nothing and works really well.

Hi Kathleen, Bees are truly amazing creatures! Thank you for watching and commenting 😎
Nice video!!! About how many bees are in a hive?
Could be anywhere from 10,000 to 80,000+…
Hi Bruce, looks like things are going well. Some think we are going to have an early spring with the way some bees are acting.

Bruce, how much longer before you have a little nectar flowing? Do you much pollen coming in now?
