Wow, Jack, this is _the_ most involved and creative remixes I've ever heard of this song - for real! I can tell a lot of thought, effort, and heart went into this arrangement, as with all of your other music. The improvised sections are wildly innovative, and the way you took the basic melody and completely reworked it from the ground (or should I say roots? 😁) up is just really something!
The ultra smooth, swing-jazz approach fits the piece perfectly, and the heavily syncopated melody you've (re)written just oozes finesse and style. You have a real knack for making [muted] trumpet parts sound authentic and detailed, with the accents, vibrato, pitch bends, and other details that make for a more expressive tone. I also really like how you pair the trumpet with some kind of mallety instrument starting at 2:35 - it adds a nice bit of pop to the melody, quite literally like popping those snooze bubbles of our favorite sleeping terror.
Excellent drumming on display here, as well, with the swung rhythms in the hi hat, ride, and snare to create a groove that you just want to sway back in forth in time to. Besides a nicely complex and fun beat, the drum selection is on point, as well - I like how the body of the snare comes through a bit more on here, like it would in certain kinds of jazz pieces. Great use of tom fills, as well, and I feel that this is some of your best drumming yet in a remix!
It's funny that you mention being inspired by Adam Neely in the description - I'm a fan of his content, as well, and I feel like there's always so much useful, no-nonsense information there. And it's really cool to learn that this arrangement was born of just messing around and hearing something that's been in the VGM section of your brain since the 90's - I love when that kind of thing happens! Honestly, I feel like the best parts of music are the result of serendipitous and unintended moments, where it's like... "woah, wait up, that was actually really cool!" ...or maybe that's just me. 😅
In any case, excellent work, as usual! And happy Thanksgiving to you, as well, NostalJack! :D

I totally agree! My favorite musical moments have definitely been when that creative lightning strikes and an idea just comes together on the spot. It feels like sheer happenstance! I’m really glad you enjoyed this piece, I loved remixing it so I’m excited that it turned out! :)
