Finally.... a teacher who knows how to teach...!!! This video is amazing and is a "MUST VIDEO" for anyone who wants to learn to dance like the native dancers who invented the dance in the first place. Moving your body to the "Rhythm" of the music. Thank you.
Hi Marcin it would be good to see a video on music tempo. I've been checking the BPM for various songs and it's quite strange that music with low BPM seem to be much faster from a dancers perspective (and vice versa). Does BPM have a bearing on how you dance?
Hey Ray, to be honest never thought of it… an average salsa song is about 150, 160 bpm and an average pop song is somewhat about 100 bpm… hence I find easier to dance bachata or cha cha cha steps to pop songs than salsa steps. Does that make sense?
Great, Marcin, thanks! I have a question: If this is what you teach to "absolute beginners", how do you call people who can't hear yet the "1" in the music and thus can't do patterns that depend on that. What would be the recommended salsa basics in this case?
I'd say: why not? :) maybe not at the first lesson (however I experiment with it and sometimes it works) but, as I said in the video, once they get the basic step right you can expose them to the simple body movement exercises. Oh, I don't call people names based on their level of experience. ;) People who don't hear the one yet can learn that through practice and the right exercises. Some get it faster, some slower. Slower learners will need more patience and assistance from our side but I personally believe hearing the 1, 2, 3 in the music is a skill, not a talent thus can be learned. Good luck with your classes!
