I'm from Finland and the decor of the studio was too fancy to be Finnish, we don't smile that much and we drink coffee in our dark apartments instead of tea.
Indeed!
Like how you left out the time traveling abilities you seem to have.
Her accent wasn’t really Finnish, either
Coffee?! I really do have to visit Finland
@@NicleT LOL! *clip of Jael frowning while sipping coffee alone in her dark Finnish apartment*
Just when you think you've watched all of Kristen's SNL skits .. there's more. There's always more. Can't get enough of her! Brilliant actress
7 years after you I just lived through the same moment!
Her, fred arnesesen and bill hader were the last great cast. The cast now has some great talent but the only one who's allowed be funny of regulars is Pete Davis. Exept from him, almost every joke hits like bedwater.
@@uefetssame here!! i spotted her in the thumbnail
this was good. You know SNL could do more of their takes on global programming. A take on Indian soap operas and Indian movies would be good.
You must have an excellent research team to have found this skit.
Lol, Kalle is a male name :P
Yeah, the research team wasn't excellent on that front.
transgender
her accent sounds more danish than finnish
every time snl tries to do a northern european accent it always turns out german
I know that from some gay storyline of a Finnish soap opera. It contains a Kalle who's a doctor.
That sounds like a German accent not ralli englanti
WE HAVE A CLIP: ruclips.net/video/_Ulgle7n1bU/видео.html
Yeah
Either German or Danish. Those two are usually hard to tell apart.
german here: if they pronounced the "r" harder then it would have been a perfect german accent.
Scottish*
The accent is nothing like finnish "ralli englanti". Souds like german.
Noooo... It sounds more Swedish to me.
Sounds like Irish accent to me
I didnt even know it was supposed to sound finnish
Daniel K. nah, swedish people usually struggle with pronouncing “ch”, this is nothing like a finnish or swedish accent
That's true :D there was no proper stress (falling tone) in the end of the sentences.
Being Finnish, I don't know whether to be amused or a little insulted... Not very accurate tho, she too cheery 😂
Yikes
I agree it was kindof misleading 😂
"Not very accurate tho, she too cheery" - THERE'S NOTHING FUNNIER (or sweeter) THAN SELF IRONY !
Just wanted you to know :)
Too cheery is the reason it's not accurate? 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
@@Kathy_1991 tbf doesn't even require self irony here. She was honestly way too cheery to be a finnish talk show host. :D Over here interviews on the TV are about as upbeat as I'd imagine a police interrogation to be xD
I'm from finland and i approve this sketch. The host seemed more warm and natural than most finnish talk show hosts though.. we like that cold steel- like atmosphere here in finlandl it makes life less fun. Life is for following rules !
+ruispuuro and growing a depression, drinking Russian Vodka and sitting in the Sauna, perfectly silent. ;) btw: Are the movies of Aki Kaurismäki close to reality?
+turbostewi We actually don't drink vodka in finland, we drink viina, which looks the same but the taste is completely different. The kaurismäki movies are not that far away from reality , but of course they are exaggeratedd a little bit. I think they show what finland used to be like in the 70-80's but nowadays we're pretty international and outgoing. But every now and then you will find somebody who is straight out of a kaurismäki movie. For example our F1 driver Kimi Räikkönen is a good example.
+ruispuuro Pissoff
evs251 I've got 45 likes that say.. NOPE.
ruispuuro Fair enough
Preposterous! We finns drink coffee, not tea!
Otherwise, nailed the robotic style and avoiding to talk too much.
yeah i agree
Not in the evening!
AHEM. A tea-drinking Finn here!
A tea-drinking Finn is like a person who doesn't like dogs - can you really trust them?
Spent two weeks in Finnland as a guest. Never in my life had I drunk so much tea...
"It's the future" lives in my head rent free.
Same! As well as "I do and I have!"
Ooh, do you have a clip of that? If not, they do!
Yes! But does this show effect causality, or does it reflect it 🤔
I’m finnish and I didn’t quite get the reference.

This is nothing like Finland, or a Finnish talk show, but it was funny though.
Yea wasnt finnish nd xd wasnt even funny
I think I kinda knew a Finnish like that... good to know not all Finnish are like that...
Timi Kärki true! She’s showing too much emotion. A true Finnish person would be a little colder than that 😅
It's just like Finland, we have a clip ruclips.net/video/n6wMVIlQNRw/видео.html
The cats though... that's true.
This all looked pretty accurate for a Finnish talk show, except the accent was waaayyy far off. sounded like some kind of a swedish/german hybrid. Also im almost sure that the finnish airports have never in the history of aviation lost a single piece of luggage.
−Born and bred in Helsinki
But some of the Finnish citizens do not speak Suomi at all, speaking only Swedish, no? (like Tove Jansson.) Perhaps Kalle is such a person.
Tae Young Ahn
Actually, everybody in Finland speaks Finnish (except immigrants and the like) - some Swedish-speaking Finns just have an accent when they do (they're usually from the west coast or Åland Islands). XD
Kalle is also a man's name. Seeing it on a woman is quite a pun.
DeltaSilver88 actually there are finnish people who don't speak finnish at all :-D Some finnish swedes speak only swedish cause they live in areas where they need only swedish.
Sonja Silfver
Åland Islands is the only place that comes to mind - it's isolated from the rest of Finland by the sea, after all. XD
DeltaSilver88 Also in Vaasa for example :-) I used to work in a travel agency that provided flights straight from Vaasa, and the customers that called from there didn't speak any Finnish. I was so surprised, before that I would've never thought it would be possible :-D
Literally all of the people in the comments are finnish and talking about how wrong this is. (also I'm Finnish).
Hello neighbour.
You're Finnish ?
Do you have a clip ?
@@justsayin494 huh?
@@nohuh5055 The "Do you have a clip?" was referencing the SNL skit. I think it was just supposed to be a cute joke from @Just Sayin. : )

They have a clip for everything!
They always have
they have an excellent research team

I just I read this with kalle’s accent
I find it funny how every time Finland is being referred to in a show, it always seems more Swedish. Kalle is a male name anyway.
Still a funny sketch.
A lot of westerners don't know the difference, I think. Like how they sometimes refer to "Stockholm Syndrome" as "Helsinki Syndrome."
or the Russian Olya with a male suffix last name
I like that swedish accent on that finnish talk show host
What, do we really sound like that? :(
***** Netherlandish? We have a clip!
***** Better to say: The way many American English perceive and imitate Scandinavians.
That's still closer to Swedish than Finnish. They usually don't have an experience of Finnish, but of some Sandinavian and the German language. So yah, yah is Swedish, German for them.
The ascetisism, and bluntness, abruptness in this vid was Finnish.
Well, the way Finns go stiff and alert when they 'have to behave',
not being allowed to be themselves, the non-pretending country folk we'd like to be
without having to be on guard to perform the etiquette.
Often Finns only perceve this need of restricting themselves, so it's a self-made restriction, often.
Swedes have their court experience for hundreds of years, parfumed wig parties, so they
wouldn't behave like this 'Kalle'. :)
I am swedish and can tell you w confidence that’s a German accent
@@danitiwa Pretty weird to get a reply to a 9 year old comment! :D
Anyway, it is definitely not a finnish accent at least.
"We have a clip" just became iconic
"Finnish Talk Show". That's an oxymoron.
~Laughs in Finnish.~
Oh my gosh, that’s hilarious XDDD 😂
can someone please explain without insulting me
@@JoCar229 : Us Finns aren't known to be very talkative. We can be called quite introvertic and we do like our personal space, true, and it's in our culture to respect the personal space of others too. But once we do get closer we actually get very warm and experience friendship, love and family all the more deeply.
Thank you so much Elaini. I asked mainly because one of my friends in university was an exchange student from Finland and he was reserved and I took It that perhaps it was his personality, being in a new country, let alone continent. He was awkward but cute at the same time, and loved beer lol. Thank you
Finns are incredibly shy and withdrawn - very intelligent. The uptightness is right on! It's a not a very accurate Finnish accent, but will do. All in all, funny, we have a clip!

Kalle, the famous Finnish magazine. R.I.P. :-)
3:49 They went the trouble of finding finnish names but didn't realise that the weird looking S is supposed to be Ö or Ä. Some research team.
Yeah but it’s a research team for an an American low-brow comedy show, not a documentary on Finnish literature.

She sounds more German than Finnish actually
no she isn't
Northern Europeans creepy? :D While Trump represents USA. now...
mikrokupu Hes white!?! He looks orange to me
The accent isn't great at all. It sounds Germanic, and Finnish isn't even a European language. Not even REMOTELY RELATED to German or Swedish.
+Yelsä Vidaravskaja You're a dumbass, neither Uralic or Indo-European langauge is native to Europe, both are recent male-dominated invaders who raped native European neolithic farmer women and hunter-gatherer women. No one knows what native European language was.
Please bring back Kalle, the next time Kristen is hosting! It's really one of the funniest skits ever on SNL!😄😄
they should have a clip! :-P
I almost died laughing. That's so off on all levels it made it even funnier. Everything from the host having a man's name to that horrible accent that has never been uttered before, I like to think the research team jokes are a quip at your own.
My favourite part is when Katy Perry says "When did that happen?" after the last clip, and Kirsten Wiig replies "In ze future"
I need more Kalle
They have a clip! :-D
They all do…
Loris Cannataro I find that offensive
My name is Kalle🤗
HMU
this should have been a regular snl segment
As a human being from Finland, I can positively verify that the clips shown were 100% true.
Her accent was not Finnish (sounded more like Swedish)
She sounded Swedish. I'm Finnish, I know.
Does it matter? 95% of the world can't tell a difference between Finnish and Swedish accent.
I'm grom Sweden and I think she sounded swedish too
Erica Näslund Sounds alot more like German tbh...
Im from Sweden aswell.
mrsarun I'm german and for me it sounded like swedish/scandinavian intonation (meaning the "prosody") and not the slightest bit "deutsch" (some strong bias of mine...). I know how finnish sounds and I can't imagine any american to emulate english with that accent. But I couldn't either do that...
I'm also Kalle (and Finnish) and this is actually a funny clip! I didn't get offended because my namesake was a woman: Normally Kalle is a boy's/man's name. Sometimes mistakes makes comedy funny and the main thing is that viewers are laughing at this clip.
I liked it too!
Kallermo Kalle was the name of the talk show not the woman. @ 0:15 she says "Hello! My name is (something incomprehensible). Welcome to Kalle"
Von No, she says "I'm Kalle Jakkolla", which is also mentioned in the end credits..
Lmao, I didn't think this was going to be funny. But about halfway in and I can't stop laughing.
I'm from Finland and I didn't know our stereotype is having loads of clips? I don't get this skit haha
I know, i’m confused
But Finnish women have loads of clits. Don't they?
kanervatie, sure. They have ten clits each. They're just everywhere.
I think the stereotype was about extensive research compared to the US media, rather than having a lot of clips.
It’s absurd humour
Kalle has an excellent research team .
The accent sounds Norwegian/ German, but yes, very typical of cold stiff Finns this attitude. LOL
Though Finnish talk show hosts or interviewers aren't as upbeat as she was. They are really serious in my own opinion, except the actually comedic/humoristic talk shows.
Pinky Malin german? nope
Finland is great!! Helsinki is just a little gem of a city and people are perfect because they ALL SEE TO THEIR BUSSINESS!
Lol, I'm Finnish, and I was wondering if SNL had ever made a sketch about Finland...I'm glad to see they have XD And I can tell you, from the moment Kristin was standing in front of the geometric shapes in the intro, I could see that this was EXACTLY what a Finnish talk show is like. Take it from someone whose mother watches TV all day.
Let’s see the clip!
What a great tribute to Carl Pellonpaa who holds the record for the longest running program (Suomi Kutsuu - Finland Calling on WLUC-TV) with one host in the history of broadcasting.
I like their chemistry, Katy Perry's timing, and Kristen Wiig's character.
I'm Finnish and this is so random lol
this is the typical swedish talkshow
Robin Lindqvist No :-(
no it's not
Swedish and Finnish are the same thing. But it's cute when you guys try to pretend you're different lol.
Having lived in Finland now for over three years, I'm disappointed to see how nothing like Finland this skit ends up being. The concept is still funny though.
I think they didn't so much care which nation they used as a basis for the idea, just threw a dart at a map of Europe, and whichever country the dart landed on, those would be the guys who wouldn't enjoy the end result
it’s part of the joke
Yeah they could have called this a “Danish Talk Show” and it would be like this too lol
You have been in Finland so long you have totally absorbed the culture. Vahvasti suomalainen!
The only thing that vaguely reminded me of Finnish TV was the introduction and ending graphics, otherwise it seems like SNL completely missed any Finnish stereotypes and mixed it up with Scandinavian ones
Yeah I get you, I’m half Finnish and half Norwegian myself. Not that SNL’s Scandinavian sketches are any better, but I don’t blame them for being inaccurate when they have so many sketches to churn out each week since it’s just for laughs. Although it’s a tiny bit annoying, cause like if you’re gonna poke fun at stereotypes that happen to be inaccurate, at least remember who those inaccurate stereotypes apply to lol
This is the first time *EVER* I'm hearing Finland is not a Scandinavian country. I think you're lying. Or drunk.
Common misconception, people tend to thing the Nordics and Scandinavia are one and the same, which is not true. Finnish and Iceland are part of the Nordic region, which includes all of Scandinavia. Scandinavia consists of three countries who share three close-knit languages and cultures: Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The more you know.
@@mariharjuskeie453 Interesting bit of information. I've learned something new from presumably a reliable source, judging by your name. Thank you.
I haven't the faintest clue as to why SNL made a skit about a Finnish talkshow. But it worked, from the catchy theme tune to the "We have a clip" device.
Kristen's father is of Norwegian descent. She seemed to have some interest in doing the occasional Scandinavian characters, including Björk.
I've no idea how right or wrong this is, but there's something about that just cracks me up to no end.
Especially towards the end where it just decides to completely throw away any concept of "sense" :)
“I’m gonna leave now.” - They all do. (Wow that’s dark)
Except for the names, I can't understand how this is related to Finland in any way o__o
The acting seems like too cheerful for a Finnish person and being blonde is more like a... Swedish thing. (Not that we don't have blondes in Finland, but it's more common to be just... dust brown.)

The amount of Finns in the comments picking apart the finer details of what is clearly meant to be silly, ridiculous satire is sort of underscoring the points implied in the video lol
I have just realized that when Katy says "I..." that sounds like "eye" that's why they show her eye XD
Didn'y knew that there is a SNL sketch about Finland too :D Actually that "lone surrounded by cats" is super realistic shit here :D
Finnish accent must be the hardest one to impersonate. Haven't met a single one who could do it. Also, they need more info how Finns spend their evenings. But we are indeed 'stiff'/emotionless, that one was true.

Finnish people are number one coffee drinkers in a word! Nobody drinks as much coffee as a finn. (And you just had tea?) And Kalle is a mans name...
They casually bulit a time machine for a tv show. And they're so rigid they didn't consider the wide ranging implications of it outside of a tv show.

Kalle is a nickname for Karl in swedish
Well that was as finnish as saurkraut is american. However as for the subtitles at the end they were mostly finnish names so kudos for that. Only lazy part theyre was not adding the letter ä instead replacing it with š which isnt in our alphabet
And also Niinistö became Niinistš - but maybe it's a Karelian name ;)
As i Finn I can honestly say that this is way better than any talk show we have on TV
That accent is more of a... I dunno, german-somethingsomething accent? Also, we Finns actually tend to speak pretty slowly (at least English since it's so much different language than our own). And the name Kalle, it's a boys name, not girls. Sure, in Finalnd there can be gorls named with a boys name and vice versa but it's super rare.
This video did not have a good research team...
not german, dutch or swedish
Da Atte doesnt sound like german at all
I think you don't have a sense of humor. If you had one, you'd realize this was ... humor, not a documentary.
Finnish is really a weird language, can’t recognize a single word in it. Just like Hungarian. Alien languages.
@@lajoswinkler Humor about stereotypes can be great but it requires knowing what stereotypes are associated with the culture you're making fun of. This thing is a whole lot of nonsense and basically the only remotely funny thing is having a clip for everything - which can't even be associated with Finnish talk shows so they could've just stuck with a setting they'd be more familiar with instead of trying to make fun of Finns and failing in the process.
