  • This is one of my favorite soaps to make every spring! There is never a shortage of dandelions where I live, and this is such a great way to put them to good use! This is the second of two batches that I made over the past month. I hope that you enjoy the video!

    picked dandellions and found bugs iin them , what do you do than ? Do you still use them? No one says anything about washing them before use.

      If it were me and there were a lot of bugs, I wouldn't use the dandelions. A few bugs that you could easily pick out of the flowers would probably be okay. Washing the dandelions would make it more difficult for them to dry out before infusing them in oil. I don't think it would work. I hope you can find dandelions without bugs!!

    How much oil do you use to infuse the dandelion?

    • @blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520
      @blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520  2 года назад +1

      Allow 2 to 3 inches of space between the dandelions and lid of the jar, then add oil so that it is an inch or so above the dandelions. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

    That yellow color! LOVE it! Curious what fragrance oil you used. Is there such a thing as dandelion fragrance oil? If not, I'd probably use a lemongrass or similar because this color screams spring time and lemons! :)
    I am thinking about doing something with my soap making with dandelions in the spring when my front and back yard are loaded with them. Very neat video. Thank you so much for sharing your process with us! :)
    Edit: Oops, I had a question that I forgot to ask because I was so caught up in commenting on the beautiful color! LOL! Did you wrap your mold in towels to insulate for forcing gel phase? Or did you put them in the oven on the lowest setting maybe? Pardon my ignorance. I'm new to soap making (only making for 2 months and just today realized what my perfect "go to" soap recipe is) so I always have lots of questions. :)

      Thank you for your nice comments! This has been one of my favorite soaps to make. :) I'm not aware of a dandelion scent out there. I've never tried adding either an essential oil or fragrance oil to this batch. I would recommend trying it first without any additional scent. Personally, I love the subtle sweet and floral scent from the dandelion infusion itself. It doesn't strongly scent the soap but I think it's nice!
      I wrap my soap loaves with a towel or lightweight blanket and check periodically to make sure they're not overheating. Florals tend to heat up and due to the dandelion infusion this one will tend do that, too. 😏
      I hope you have fun next spring with making dandelion soap! It's a lovely soap to both make and use!

    Do you dry out the dandelions before infusing?

    • @blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520
      @blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520  3 года назад

      Yes, I do! After picking, I cut the stems off, just leaving the flowers. I spread the flower ends out on an old towel and let them dry for 2 - 3 days. When they have dried out, I start the infusion, keeping the jar of dandelions and oil in a sunny window for a couple of weeks. I've had good success doing it this way!

    Does the soap stay that shade?

      It holds the color really well, however, I do keep it out of direct sunlight. I would imagine it would do some fading in that case!
