I LOVE BOOKS AND SOCK KNITTING KAL 2024
Details:
-The goal is to knit socks while consuming books, via eyes or ears. (phsyical books and audiobooks)
-This is a participatory KAL so the number of books consumed and socks knit is up to you. No pressure to finish anything.
-All genres and types of socks are permitted
-SIPs (socks in progress) are welcome
-All yarn weights are welcome
-The KAL will run in my Ravelry group (yes, it’s been revised and renewed and is up and running) & on Instagram
-The official hashtag is #ilovebooksandsockknittingkal24
-Not required but would be fun to match your book title/genre to the colorway or pattern of your sock
I will pick 2 winners, one from Ravelry and one from Instagram at the end of the KAL as a thank you for participating. I don’t want the focus to be on prizes but on our love books and sock knitting.
Please share your favorite books, sock patterns, yarn dyers, book stores, etc with us. There are threads ready in the Ravelry group.

Good morning all! I have never knitted a sock. I actually haven't knitted a thing in years! But I was sick in bed last weekend and couldn't really concentrate on reading (even Elizabeth Bennet was too much for me). Got on internet and stumbled onto the No Fear Sock Knitting series and decided to give socks a go. This KAL is just what I need. Count me in. Will go out and get a round needle or DPNs !! oh, yes! and sock yarn - can't forget that!
Lol we must have the same cold! I was so sick this past Monday I couldn’t even knit! I’m better now and hope you are too!

Love the phrase “consuming books”! I used to read a good book inhaling it sometimes staying up all night. Now I will fall asleep trying to read the first page. My son gave me audible books for my last birthday and I can consume a book again and knit socks at the same time! What a perfect knit along! Thanks for hosting it! 📕🧶

I tend to lean towards a lot of fantasy reading so listening to audio books is awesome because they pronounce everything correctly for me.

I’m really looking forward to this KAL! I’m going to get my “Outlander” inspired yarns dyed up and pull out the socks I started in those colorways. I might be inspired to dye up some new colorways.

Hi Denise, I can see how excited you are and it’s a joy .2things I love doing reading and Knitting and I’m with you. I definitely listen to more audiobooks now because I can knit at the same time. I also like audiobooks when I’m travelling just perfect I’m currently gripped by Kristin Hannah‘s new book the women.Count me in .
Oh goodness this is just what I need! I have a SIP that I need to get done. It’s for my husband and as such take a long time (big feets!) and I get bored. So glad I saw this video!
Knitting for "big feet" people is sign of true love!!!
I love audiobooks too. They are just such a fun way to unwind. I devour them lol. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
Yay!!!!! So excited for this fun theme! I have been devouring the Finlay Donovan series, also started Thursday murder club, so I love mysteries! I also love historical fiction, especially WW2 time period. Thank you for your idea and enthusiasm ❤

This is exciting. This marks 1 yr since your No Fear Sock Knitting series was recommended to me by a local knit shop. I’m hooked on knitting socks now. Getting my skeins, patterns and audiobooks ready!

Nancy Drew turned alot of us into avid readers at a young age. My granddaughter is now working through the series. I gave her my old copies (had 20+). They are a bit dated but getting reread regardless.

What a fun idea! I may be motivated to listen or read (I usually comfort watch the movie constantly) pride and prejudice so I can knit up some self striping yarn I have that was inspired by them!

I would do a google search for the Ravelry tutorial or ask in the Help Discussion Group In Ravelry. It's not as hard as it looks.

I don’t care for sock knitting, but I absolutely adore you and watch everything you share-with enthusiasm!!! I also couldn’t live happily without experiencing books (I’m a little put off by the word “consuming.”). This KAL is so clever!!!🎉😊
How about just knitting a tube and giving it to another knitter to add heels and toes xx
Experience, consume, devour, savour, cherish, relish...whatever word works. The goal is to enjoy (another one) as many books as we can. And if socks are not your thing then feel free still join the fun in whatever way makes you happy.

One of my favourite books, of all time, is "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, physical copy only for me. Something about the smell of print on paper, science backed 😂😊 I also have a yarn in a Good Omens inspired colourway by SkeinHawk...that's me sorted for the first one!! 😃😁

Ooooo...new video! ❤ I'm all about reading and knitting. My genre, which seems to be popular with knitters, is murder and mayhem. How could it not be? We learn knitting by repeating, "Stab it, strangle it, scoop out its guts!" over and over again. I'm currently reading through Jonathan Kellerman's Alex books, so I think I'll try to match yarn to book covers. If I get lost stash diving, send in the firefighters. Only cute ones, please.

I love to listen to audio books while I knit. My favorite project is 2@atime toe up socks. But I knit stocking caps, mittens, cowls, baby blankets, etc, in between. I knit a sweater every fall/winter.
I'm so excited! Reading/Listening and knitting are my two favorite things! I'm ready and the 1st can't get here quickly enough. See you on Rav!

Great idea. I love knitting socks and listening to books . I’d love to be in a book club and knitters group. I love reading books but since I started knitting last year I couldn’t find the time to read. Every time I sit I want to knit all the things

Hello! I happened upon your channel today and the title stopped me in my tracks. What a cool KAL idea!! I am in! I’m currently reading the Conte of Monte Cristo along with a favourite book tube channel (Emmie Reads) and I found a sock pattern on Ravelry called The Conte of Monte Cristo 😍 which is perfect and gorgeous for this pairing.
My sister gave me a lavender or light purple Twice Sheared Sheep Sock Ruler this past Christmas and I just LOVE it!

Hi ! Greetings from Finland! I eagerly listen to audio books while I knit. It's so relaxing just to listen because I have to read in my job
numbers and letters all the time. I knit Icelandic shirts and also surface knitting sweaters. Socks seem so difficult to knit, they always end at the heel with me and are left unfinished,,, I can't participate in your audiobook challenge, but I'm here in Finland in spirit with you all ! Thank you !

I do the same. If there is a series I want to watch I try to read the book first. With a book as epic as Shogun I think the audiobook with really help.

I think if you follow along with my No Fear Sock Knitting Series you'll be knitting socks in no time!! Just take your time and go slowly!!

So excited for this read/knit a long! I have a bunch of sock tubes that need heels/toes/cuffs. Do they count towards the KAL? Totally ok if not, I have plenty of stash to work through!

Can’t knit Sox due to hand issues. Will look for pattern for bed socks ~ larger needles and yarn. Already have my book selected. Yea KAL, ❤

This KAL sounds fun! I have struggled with book reading since 2016 due to migraine headaches. I've looked into Audible, but just haven't tried it. I'm sure you've said, but where do you get your audio books? Is it just like listening to a podcast?

pocket fm free for android and i think apple as well free stories to listen and some of them have over 300 chapeters great audio books for for adult teen amd young adults

3:49 do you find you retain everything from an audiobook? I’ve tried to listen to audiobooks while working on the computer and don’t retain the story line.

I absolutely do but I have to do "general" tasks when listening. If not, it's impossible to focus. I could never work on the computer and listen to a book. It's one or the other for me
I am ready to start a pair of socks with your yarn. Any suggestions to get jogless seams? I see your video on adding two yarns together but can’t find jogless using self striping like your yarn. Thanks!

That is a good question. The answer is no. The number of stitches in the middle depends on the size sock you're knitting, the number of stitches in the heel, how you want the heel to fit. deeper less stitches, more shallow/wider, more stitches, etc.

@@antoinettekellam6048 Yes, you divide the heel stitches by 3. Left, middle, right. If it's not an even divide then add the extra stitches on the sides. I hope that helps/makes sense.
