Hi, you have tons of fruit and vegetables. How do you prevent Squirrels from eating everything? Thanks.

    • @pillowkitty6
      @pillowkitty6 3 месяца назад

@@MaliaSoul Wildlife hasn't stolen any of my harvests this year! Have a multitude of squirrels along with two quarreling chipmunks that I provide a protection fee of pecans and walnuts. Bowl of water is always available. Also instead of bird seed I feed the birds crushed shelled unsalted peanuts. The nuts don't try to take root in my planters when they flick it and attracts far more species of birds. I don't overfill the feeders so that by sunset they are empty. Not keen on encouraging the more destructive nocturnal species. In spring I just use netting to prevent the rodents from digging. Critters cannot resist the soil's call even if you heavily mulch. Sow cover crops in situations where you'll need to eventually remove the netting. Do all that I do because "removing" them isn't an option without angering the locals who also adore and feed them.

Hi James and Tuck🐕🌝 I am sad to report, I wish I could say the summer heat but no..I have lost most of my vegetable garden and flowering plants due to the devastating hurricane Beryl, although I tried to prepare and protect my backyard garden area. I'll find the strength to do it all again. I am grateful to God that our family is safe.🙏

I'm in Texas. One year, I ordered a load of mulch, but I made an error, and they FILLED MY DRIVEWAY with it! I put down about 10" of mulch all over multiple beds, and had to give a lot away.
That year was FANTASTIC. The plants loved Loved LOVED the massive layer of cool protection from our Texas sun.

I’m having a huge abundance of tomatoes. Should have planted more cucumbers….next year. Hot peppers are doing great. I planted Seminole pumpkins….praying I get many .Herbs …time to harvest and put up. Getting ready to start seeds for fall garden soon. Love your channel ❤

I am happy for your tomato success! They are beautiful.
We have had so much consistent rain and I’m in a new-to-me garden plot with subpar drainage (it seems). I’ve lost 12 plants now, and started with 50 ish. I’m researching what to do next season to help this soil.
I am replanting some free ones I picked up at the hardware store and hoping for some more blossoms. It’s been a bad weather year for me, and plenty of other Iowa gardeners from what I hear.
I’m so glad that Tuck shares his garden assistant with us, to make these videos! 😉 Clover, my garden boss, says hello!

Remember that you talk to everyone. When you say something is especially important for those who live in the south, say better for those who are near the tropics. The same for the orientation of the sun north south, refer to each hemisphere better because you also have followers on the other side of the globe. Your English is extraordinarily clear for an American. Thanks for everything!

I live in an APT and is all have is rail planters... I have Basil, Oregano, Dill, Pepper's and radish planted.. So what i can do is very limited.. but what i do, do is water the base of the plants with condensate from my portable AC unit.. I do not use city water, since the fluorinate it and the water is extremely hard..
I water the base of the plants in the early evening and in the mid morning.. Everything is thriving.. I know a lot of people have lost their pepper plants.. Those usually love the heat.. but the 95+ degree days and a lot of them has been low humidity.. I just do my best to keep the soil moist..
Only thing I use on the top is a cow manure compost that I bought a bag of the beginning of the season..

Tuck is the King-of-the-green !! My Jack-doodle ( Chia-poo) is the same size as Mr. Tuck and enjoys all of the vegetables that he does...soooo cute. He especially enjoys the Suyo-long cucumber. H adores carrots but our over 100 degree weather for 3 weeks plus now would be hard to grow successfully. I need to invest in shade-cloth ! Right now, I make good use of 30-pack beer box cardboard. Gorgeous garden fruit !! What kind of beef-steak is that ?? Wowza...grape-crazy !! , fun. Yay for a great little covered-bed of blueberries to keep pristine . Awesome food-forest !! Potatoes are so awesome and prolific. I had to cover my zucchini to help it prosper through the heat.

This has been the absolute worst year ever in my garden here in New Jersey! 😭😭😭 Plants are dying, everything is below my stolen! EVERYTHING... watermelon, cucumber, pumpkin, tomatoes... an insane varmint even dug up one of my potatoes today! I had to plant my sunflowers 3 times! and my corn twice! My artichokes have been devastated... either stolen or murdered, this has neve happened before. Strawberries... each one half eaten 🤦🏼‍♀️ Finally my corn is progressing and my potatoes are thriving. Celery is behind but growing and my lettuce plants are also successful. I've never had to replant so much or had so much literally stolen by critters. Everything is behind now or dying from the brutal NJ heat. At least my son's cayenne peppers haven't been stolen.

Had to laugh at this video! Here in UK it is the coldest, wettest season I can ever remember! Tomatoes are usually ripe by now, but hardly formed, slugs are a HUGE problem ( have eaten four plantings of carrots and eating their way into our potatoes). squash plants and cucumbers have failed.....
Benefits? lettuce ! (inside or they would be massacred by slugs) , soft fruit tremendous crop....
We just have to work with what we`re given, and be grateful for what we get from our gardens- so much healthier and tastier than shop bought. Even the huge increase in rabbits agree!!!

Long-time subscriber. Great channel. You mentioned the white plastic fences in the video. I have run into trouble with any plants planted near a white plastic fence near my yard. I think the plants might be getting burnt by the sun reflecting off the fence and/or lack of wind/air getting to the plants. I can only move my plants so far from the fence. Do you think the issue is related to the sun reflecting off the fence, lack of wind/air, or both? Suggestions??

You grow a mind-boggling amount of food. May I ask? What do you do with it all? Do you sell at a farmer’s market or supply restaurants? Do you have 17 hungry family members? Is someone at home canning and preserving all this bounty? You can’t possibly keep up with eating it all. I don’t imagine you let a large volume spoil. Please share your plans for these thousands of pounds of beautiful, but spoilable, food. Thanks!
