Interesting bit of Trivia Murphys son actually got in contact with Sabaton after they released this song and thanked them for finally making a song about his father that isn’t a country song.

😂😂that is actually hilarious. With everybody in this story being in Texas I’m not surprised it was all country.

I agree with you...why bash the regular soldier? Both in WWI and WWII most of them signed up after hearing their leaders talk about the glory, the heroism and fighting the evil. No one talked about how gruesome it would be and the horrors they would witness

it’s more surprising to me that so many men continued to follow those orders even with the horrors around them. And I talk about this a lot, but soldiers are directly tied to the competency of their leadership. The French soldiers of WW2 know well how bad leadership can hinder the ability for the soldiers to continue to fight.

there are two accounts that Knights returning from crusades had nightmares, even while awake, and SEVERAL about renown Knights becoming crying ball on the ground from hearing swords clash, horses squeal in pain and other battle sounds, I would call that PTSD.

Do you have some sources? I’ve never come across anything as specific as that I don’t think. Certainly things we might portray as PTSD today in regards to actions, but never a cause from what I’ve come across. And if you do just tell me where to find them unless it’s RUclips links, they’ll take the comment with links in it down in two seconds.

I’m trying to slowly work my way into some deeper historical topics. Someone had given me a heads up on this song when it was recommended so I thought this might be a good place to start. And thanks, I appreciate the support.

I think the difference isn't so much the brutality (even though it was beyond brutal) it's the death from afar, or death from above, death unseen. You no longer saw the enemy running at you to attack in hand to hand. I can't imagine the levels of anxiety knowing you coyld die or be maimed at any moment even when you saw no enemies. How do you sleep, eat and function like that. So I guess what im getting at is when you stuck in that state of extreme anxiety for that long, I think it becomes permanent.

There is a book written about this, I can't remember the title off of the top of my head but I read it for an ancient history class. The author basically makes that same argument, that instead of one big rush like ancient warfare it's a constant drip that never goes away. And that after living with that drip for long enough, where at any point you could lose your life from something you didn't see coming, it becomes essentially apart of how your brain operates.

I liked this reaction since you're an american (texan, even), how about you react to the other songs about american war history? Devil Dogs, 82nd All The Way, Lost Battalion and Screaming Eagles. Would be fun to hear your opinion on how well they capture those units from a US perspective.

They are on my Sabaton list! I try to do a lot of videos that aren’t centered around the US, probably because I don’t want to be seen as an American who only studies or focuses on American history, but I definitely will do them. All of their songs have been great, I can’t wait to hear how they frame the song for the US ones.

That's a reaction? Sitting there in total silence only blinking? Yeah... What a great "reaction"...

The last half of the video is talking.
