With some strong winter northerly winds, we head over to fish one of the Yorke Peninsula's iconic jetty locations. We are targeting Squid, Tommy Ruff, and Garfish and hope some Australian Salmon are also around in the rough winter fishing conditions. We win against the winter fishing conditions and get a good feed. The Inku Squid Tackle did its job in attracting some squid to jump on. However, the Tommy Ruff and Australian Salmon were nowhere to be seen. A local told me that some 30-plus tonnes of Australian salmon had recently been netted from the area. We also share some bonus Edithburgh footage from the week earlier with a toothy critter and a decent squid coming from that winter fishing session.
Ardrossan Jetty on the Yorke Peninsula is a popular location throughout the year. The winter fishing at Ardrossan is generally good for Australian Salmon, Tommy Ruff, Garfish and squid and as you move into the warmer months expect to find whiting and even the odd shark. Being the first major jetty on the east coast of the Peninsula it is an easy day trip from Adelaide and attracts anglers of all abilities from beginners to experts.
Winter fishing on the Yorke Peninsula can be very rewarding or as equally disappointing. I am glad on this occasion the Inku Squid Tackle egi's came through with the goods catching 5 squid. The random mullet was a surprise catch.

Sure was. Pity no salmon around. The guy at the end said the commercial guys just netted up 30 odd tonne in 4 days!

Yes, a good feed. Interesting that even when you use the jigs at the right times, the one you wouldn't expect to work does.
hI Matt, if you wet the braid before you start casting it will help a lot with wind knots.
It was weird. A bird had just flown into my line. There was a tiny bit of feather on the line and that's what caused it to get caught up I think.
Plenty of salmon off the rocks near the lighthouse at the moment 😎

Squid have been scarce lately around Ardrossan. My lads recently got the fishing bug so been spending a lot of time on that jetty in between binge watching fishing videos on RUclips. Maybe one of these days I'll see you down the jetty

I grew up in Ardrossan, used to spend a lot of my time at this jetty but not fishing. Ardrossan is not known for its fishing off the jetty these days, when I was a kid around 8 in 08 it was alright but died off after around about 2012. Need a boat and to go out about 2-3kms and snapper and mulloway are aplenty
A mate of mine that lives down the road from the jetty I grew up with caught a massive 106cm mulloway off the same spot you're fishing off of if my memory serves me correctly back in 2014
