- TILE YOUR STAIR RISERS - Prevent cracked tiles and grout from falling out with use.
Design : My own - Wife showed me an Etsy photo that had a similar pattern on risers done with a thick vinyl decal, I said “I could do that with tile” which led to this video. Thank you for watching!
Similar install principle with whatever tile pattern you choose.

Greatly appreciated ☺️
Nice work, very elegant!
Thank you Amanda, I appreciate the feedback.
Beautiful design and work! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much Jennifer!
This video is very informative and I love the tips Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback.
This is beautiful! May I ask what the measurements of your cuts were on each tile to get that pattern. It is lovely.
Thank you!!! I simply mocked the first row up and used a Swanson tool that gave me the angle I needed for the width and height of each riser. Once I had that angle 📐 I was able to duplicate it amongst the remaining risers. Hope that makes sense.
Looks great! What was the angle you used when cutting your tile? Sorry if I missed that in your video!
Thank you! If I remember correctly, they were set at 57 degrees so I marked and cut for that pattern.
Very informative video! Nice work! What did you use to adhere the trim to the tile? Motar?
Yes a little Mortor and a fine bead of Liquid Nails across the tops and bottoms to adhere to the stair treads themselves.
Thank you!!!!
What did you use to bead the trim to the tile? Mortar? Very nice work!
Mortar and a little adhesive on the high contact areas - gorilla glue to be exact. Thank you!!!!!!
Thinking about doing the same. What was your center??
You dont need to thinset the cement board to the stairs? Is that because its only one piece?
No, if properly fastened to the wood at the correct specifications for the board you’re using, countersunk screws will be more than sufficient. Follow manufacturer guidelines for screw distance and placement. Don’t cheap out on the right screws from the job.
Should you use washers for the screws
No, they need to be countersunk into the board. Otherwise they’ll interfere with tile install flatness.
@@JohnPauls Cheers mate. Thanks for the quick response. I'm literally installing them now while watching your video.
That’s awesome!!! You’re most welcome and glad to assist. Good luck with your project!
Don’t go too deep, follow screw and board directions on the depth of the countersunk screws. Just below Flat is perfect.
How does the white riser hold up with high traffic? Is it a pain to clean?
Easy to clean because it’s tile. Definitely seal the grout if you go for a lighter color.
Painter knife best tool ever
Fact!
Lowes sells risers like this made out of wood. Way cheaper and perfect joints.
This is true but also dents easier. Pros and cons to each.
🔥🔥
Why would you not have put a blanket or something down to prevent all the dust from getting in the customers driveway and why would you not be working on a table? The customers driveway is not your workshop she just cut on.
Because it’s my driveway and I’m the one that cleaned it up afterwards 💁🏻♂️
Just moved in, work bench had not been set up. Anything else?
@@JohnPauls haha awesome when someone tries to knock you down and then ends up looking like a fool. Good job, I am about to tile ours and got a couple good tips from your video.
I’m so glad you hear that. 2 years later they’re still looking great. I’ve gotten a tile saw since and it’s made the process so much easier. Best of luck with your Reno Trent.
