This Meike 85mm f/1.4 is the cheapest autofocus 85mm f/1.4 lens for Nikon Z and Sony E, but it's also double the price of their own 85 1.8 lens. So is it great value or overpriced? What do you think?
@VinciAndresBelalcazarYabur should be available quite soon. I've asked Meike to send me a sample so i can test it on a S5 and S5II and see how it performs especially the autofocus
Amazing review and great lens. One of the best bokeh I ever seen and may be the best out of 85mm. I think I'm conviced to buy this one just from your video! Would love to see Meike 85 1.4 vs Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN neck to neck thought.
Using Nikon Z FF I always appreciate good reviews of gear to satisfy any GAS I have, but also appreciate the work you do with other brands such as Panasonic, cause after 30 years shooting Nikon, I might change LOL
This looks like a good deal even cheaper than older f mount lenses 85 1.4 and I don’t have to worry about getting an adapter now. The warm colors I’m not a fan of but I can just fix it in post. The f 1.4 I think will just make lower light work better regardless. I just wish they made a 24-70
Wow, if I didn't already buy the Nikon 85mm f/1.8, I think I would've bought this one. Thank you for the great test, as always. I'm mainly shooting wildlife anyway, and only really use the other lenses occasionally, mainly for cars. I think the Meike lens, being very acceptable optically and having a maximum aperture of 1.4 at a much lower price, is actually a very tempting lens.
I believe the Nikon is still a much lens in terms of picture quality. But for someone who doesn't have the Nikon yet, I agree this is indeed very tempting lens
Thanks Richard as ever in depth and detailed review well done I saw your review of the Meike 85/1.8 found one boxed as new for 125euros unbelievable performance I actually prefer the lighter weight and build quality is better than my Fuji xc lenses I didn't want to invest too much in a niche lens af is sluggish on my 2nd gen Fuji's but on my xt4 + boost mode it's very fast and accurate perfect for me thanks for the tip all the best
It looks good, but if you are thinking of spending $500 then what you'd want to know is - how does it compare with Nikon's own 85mm f1.8 Z lens (& is Nikon's lens worth the extra money?)
Thank you! I did consider doing another round of 85mm tests again.. But last time when i did the 4 lenses test, it took me weeks to complete that review, this time would take even more time with 5 lenses. And since most of the test results should be the same as last round so I decided just compare with the Meike 85 1.8.
@@TheRealRichardWong I feel you, it does take a lot of time to do it. Can u tell wether you recommend it over my viltrox 85 1.8, or it is not worth the hustle?
How do you feel this compares to the Viltrox 85mm F1.8 Mark II? The natural warm tones of this lens seem appealing but not sure the +200 in cost here in Canada is worth it vs the Viltrox. I returned the Meike 1.8 as I felt the chromatic aberration was too high.
I'm game! If it's big and bulky, heavy and honky... there was actual thought put into it and that means the glass is better quality! Boy that sucker shoots pretty dang sharp to boot... I'll take it!
Thanks. I didnt even know this existed when I ordered the 1.8 yesterday. Is this lens not for sale in the US? I dont see it for sale anywhere. Dont think I would pay twice the price for it though. I'll be able to get the new 50 1.8 and the 85 1.8 for the price of this 1.4 which is a great deal.
What Nikon users need if Nikon don't bring out a F1.4 is for Sigma to make a 85 f1.4 art. I have the Sony mount version and It's razor sharp from f1.4 . Nikons 85 f1.2 is amazing but it's Sooo heavy, over 100g heavier than my Sony 70-200 f2.8. Luckily my 85 art FE mount seems to work perfectly on my Z8 with the megadap 21 Pro
Nick, I have the megadap etz 21 pro too. I'm using it on Nikon Z8 (v2.00) with Sigma 85mm dg dn (sony e-mount). Which firmware are you using? Cause in my case it doesn't work 😅
Not sure. i heard a while ago the plan to release this lens for Z,E, L and RF but not sure about X. I did just finished an autofocus X mount lens review from another brand and waiting to be released :)
@@robertleidner9703 That big 85mm f/1.8 comparison review took me a few weeks to create, and it was only done recently. I would like to get the Sigma 85 1.4 art if it goes to z mount or a better ETZ adapter comes along. But now that Sigma only focuses on bringing its APS-C lens to z mount, and Viltrox pro series lenses are all APS-C, this budget-friendly Meike seems like a good option. However, I don't see any lens-correction profile for Meike in Lightroom. How do people fix vignetting and distortion for Meike lenses?
You could always create a lens profile yourself manually and use that for the lens. It's quite easy and there are many tutorials on the internet that shows you how to do that.
@@TheRealRichardWong ok. Just placed my order for the z mount. I will let you know if the production model is different than the one u tested in a month. Edit. Now the website just changed to taking order at the end of November. Hopefully I will get my lens before Christmas
