This video is life! I think a lot of the fact painting design comes with time and practice, but you can't practice having a good business sense. Everything you covered are all questions I had and had to figure out on my own. It's awesome that you are so open about your business and are willing to share your knowledge.
Thank you! That is a very sweet comment. I hardly have it all figured out but have worked hard to streamline things and I get SO many requests with help on this subject that I wanted to share. 💕
@@Arielpaints your absolutely wonderful! thank you so much!
Can you make a video on how you deal with “problems” such as skin problems, wild kids, child that won’t sit still, rude parents, cutting of the line at the end of an event, etc.?
Hello. I’ll consider that but it may be hard because there are so many situations to cover. Let me think about it. 😊
Wow, I didn’t know how much I needed this until watching!! You are so thorough and diplomatic, I am really impressed. Thank you so much for being a leader and role model in the community
Thank you for the very kind comment. I appreciate it greatly! 💕
Thank you! Just had my first gig today . You are a inspiring artist and a great teacher. Practical but still fun. You have really made me feel ready and able to start my own business.
I'm so happy to hear that!!! Thank you 💕
WOW!!!
Lots of really good information.

Glad you liked it! Google forms is great.
Omg you're business side is smooth. I'm so right brained.
Thanks, it's come a long way. It has not always been smooth and it's taking some time to work through all the kinks. 💕

I know this is an old video but all the info is amazing!
I did notice in your contract that your price for the third and forth hour is $80 but your overtime price for a an hour beyond the scheduled time is only $75. I don’t know if you have changed that since this post but it is maybe something to consider.
Again super great info!
Yes, thank you so much for sharing all of your experience, it's priceless to people like me who're starting out, and there were so many things I hadn't thought of that you've covered. You're an inspiration!

My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
soooooooo helpful, wow, thank you!!!
Thank you so much I absolutely love this video it has been so helpful as I work towards becoming a professional face painter!! I do have a question for you what do you do as far as receipts/ invoices for your parties and for businesses who contract your services can you make a video on that please?
I probably won't get to a video on that soon because I'm swamped but I quickly mentioned PayPal...that's what I use for invoices and keeping track of payment. There is a fee but I like what I can do with it and connect it to my business bank account so I can keep track of what is coming in and out.
This video was incredibly helpful
Thank you for commenting. So glad my videos have helped. 💕

Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
You're super welcome!!! 💕
This video is pure gold! Thank you so much for all the work that went into it! Could you tell me how much insurance you suggest and how much your quote is? The insurance is the only thing thats confusing me❤
Hi, it depends on what coverage you need or want. I would search the topic in one of the Facepaint forums on Facebook and you’ll see many responses and option to that question. Then go get quotes and ask for the terms of the agreement and read it carefully. Hope that helps.
This was super helpful! So far I've only had a few gigs over the past year and I'm working on getting more this year. I don't have much of a budget for marketing and the business side of things. At what point would you recommend investing in insurance, licensing and such. Since I have to work a lot to find gigs I'm worried if I invest right now I won't get enough jobs to cover the expense.
Well, I personal don't think most people get insurance right away but I can't advise you not too. It's never a good idea to work with kids and a small business and not protect yourself. As soon as you're able to get insurance I would. If someone is already helping you with your taxes see what they advise for starting your own business. You don't have to do it all at once but just start with one thing at at time.
Ariel, would you consider doing a "critique" if we submitted a design to you?
Sure, you can send me a design via message in Facebook. I'll take a look.
Thankyou very much
Thank you SO much for watching! Appreciate your comment. 💕
Fantastic video! This will be such a help! Question for you that I was hoping you could answer. How do you follow up with people who you’ve given information too, but haven’t responded back? And what do you say when someone says they will have maybe 4 more kids at a party than you can paint in the one hour they have booked? I always suggest they book an additional hour to avoid leaving anyone out, but I don’t want them to think that I won’t spend the full time booked painting kids and that they’ve wasted their money. It’s easy to show them that once you’re there, but parents assume that if I can paint 10 kids in an hour, it should only take me maybe 20 minutes to paint another 4 so then what are they paying another 40 minutes for. Sorry for rambling! 🙊
I just ask them if they are sill interested. When it comes to booking you just have to stand firm that you book by the hour and half hour...not minute. Most people understand that I think. You can't book other services by the minute so we are no different. Hope that helps.
Nice tips
Thanks darling!
Wow this is wonderful information. Quick question. How long did it take you to go from volunteer, building your business, to licensed and having an LLC?
That's a good question. It was a little less than a year.
Thank you
Thanks for watching! 💕
Please tell me that cool name that you buy your business cards from. It was thicker cards that had single pics.
Thank you Ariel. Very useful info. Only one thing looks unclear to me, and it is about the no refund policy. I read in your contract something like "less than 48hs before the event there is no refund... it that mean that you refund in some cases or not at all?
Yes, I would in some cases. It's really all depends on the circumstances for me and honestly have NEVER had it happen. I've been really lucky to have events not be cancelled.
What insurance company's cover this type of work. Help
Another question, for paint for face events do you have every parent or adult being painted fill out contracts or just the event coordinator? The same question goes for birthday parties and corporate events?
Just the event coordinator sings my contract.
Hi Ariel can you please update your prices, thank you so much! your are truly inspiration to me ❤
Hello. I have updated my prices but haven’t done an updated video. Is that what you’re asking for?
@@Arielpaints yes ! That’s what I asking
Thank you 🙏
Today (2023) I have "Square" to pay on the spot and "Invoice App" (from Square) to create and send my invoice, and clients pay after sending my invoice using the app. My question will be, how/when do you send the link/bank account to receive the deposit?
When I was taking deposits regularly I required it up front and it was required in order to secure a date. Now after MANY years almost every gig I do is grandfathered in and I've been doing them for so many years I don't even ask for one. But if you are starting out I wouldn't recommend that at all.
I am a makeup artist and I’m starting to do face painting as well, would you recommend I have a different social page for each or the same page for both
I think it depends if you intend on running them as two separate business or blending them together.
Have you ever had anyone try sue because they or their child caught a reaction to the paint or glitter used? If so how do you handle that? Does the part in the contract and on your sign protect you from them being able to try to take legal action against you because of a skin reaction?
No, I have not but I have insurance and my business is protected as an LLC.
What’s a good website creator for bookings?
I don't use one but I know there are lots out there you can get trials for.
Do you attach your policies with the client form and send them at the same time?
Or do you send two separate Google forms, and get a signature for each?
Do you have people digitally sign the contract, or just the Google form?
Thank you for the awesome information😊
Just the google form. I don't use the contract form anymore...that's just what I did before I had the google form.
Your PPF rates are so much lower than your hourly rate. You would have to do all 15 full faces just to make it worth your while. I think you can raise those. I know your area pretty well and I have faith that you could go with $10 full faces without issue. My PPF rate here, in the Orlando area is a $10 baseline. Specialty faces, or faces with custom gem clusters are more. I totally get why you’d want the sliding scale, but I am fully convinced you could start at $5 and end at $10 without the market even noticing, but your bank account will definitely benefit.
Totally unsolicited advice. Take or leave as you wish.
I love Google forms too.
I completely understand what you're saying. I mentioned that it needs to be updated because I have increased my rates since then and I can also paint closer to 20 people per hour if not more. I almost NEVER do PPF anymore so just haven't paid that much attention to that part of my contract. When I was doing my PPF events it was in a VERY low income area and people would comment about $3 so it was priced for the area. Always welcome the feedback dear. Thanks for watching!
The mayor speaks. All rise..
Oh My Gawd...you make me laugh SO hard!!!!
