Have used a QV GT since my shoegaze band days in 1992. After winning a legal settlement with I.R.S. Records / EMI in 1996 I stopped touring, but this old Alesis unit has remained with me and is still in use today.
Fantastic job! Very clean and precise with correct tools. My respect! Do you had to change the contrast resistor? In my Quadraverd GT, when I replaced the LCD, I had to change the resistor of contrast on mother board. I had to replace value to 36K 1/8W for a better contrast. Best regards from Brazil!
Hi.I bought a Lcd from the market and I replaced in my Alesis Quadraverb….and it is not working …its just showing for a second the characters and no light when you turn it on ….any ideea how to fix it?
I do. Do you have the backlight powered? Pins 15 and 16 of the LCD are the backlight power. Pin 15 needs 5V and Pin 16 needs GND. On most compatible LCD's, 5V is fed into Pin 2 and Gnd is fed to Pin 1. So connect Pin 15 to Pin 2 and Pin 16 to Pin 1. Meanwhile Pin 3 is not connected to the Quadraverb. Connect a trimpot with one end to Pin 1, one end to Pin 2, and the wiper to Pin 3. This is contrast control.
PLEASE FRIEND I HAVE A ZOOM 9030 EFFECTS PROCESSOR WITH THE BROKEN DISPLAY DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY A NEW ??, THE APPLIANCE IS OLD AND HERE IN BRAZIL IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE DISPLAY. THANK YOU!!!
I have no back light but have the display working fine, so it`s very hard to read, if i replace the display as you have done will that fix the back light or is that a different fix?.
It's not as good as the original, because the replacement screen is a slightly different fit and is further back inside the machine by a few millimeters.
I replaced my screen probably 20 years ago, still working. alesis was in weat LA. at the time. if I change the battery in my quad-gt, will I loose my presets? thank you. great video btw.
Yes, I would presume that your presets are lost, since it's the battery keeping them in memory when you turn of the power. If the battery is already low, your presets are already gone. If you can manage to change the battery while the unit is still on power (not advisable) there is a change that the presets stay. Why not use a tool where you can use the midi-connection so you can transfer your presets to the computer? Most units can do this.
@@HumanErrorSynthRepair Can you give details on how the transfer is done? I have a GT and Cakewalk DAW. If I tell Cakewalk to receive, the message is 0 bytes were transfered. Does something have to be done on the GT (Enable SysEx is on). Cheers
If you mean the non-GT quadraverb, then yes, those are the same. I sourced my display from ebay, there are still a few around if you search for Quadraverb LCD replacement. Check my comment below also, there is a link where you can see how to use a LCD-display with a different pinout.
Fantastic video, thank you! I want to replace the LCD in my Quadraverb, as far as I know they take the same display. Can you tell me where you ordered yours or what the name (Number?) of this kind of display is?
Thanks you. Yes, the GT and non-GT should be the same. There is a difference with the Quadraverb Plus though! The screen I have is sold out, but this guy is selling some still: www.ebay.nl/sch/lmp1492/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= But there are more to be found if you search for LCD replacements.
It is in some way a standard display, it uses the HD44780 chip, with the only difference the pinout on the module. Check this guy, who wrote a lot about replacing the LCD: neilfrost.wordpress.com/2013/06/11/repairing-restoring-alesis-quadraverbgt-lcd-display/ The hard part is the size and mounting options. But if you don't mind ordering from the UK you can still get parts that you just slide in.
Melhora demais a visualização em relação ao original. one of the most absolutely professional and precise repair jobs I have ever seen, also very nice, concise video.

I salvaged a screen from an old HR16 Alesis drum machine .. worked great. The MMT-8 sequencer has the same screen as well,
7:43 I would encourage anyone going to these lengths to replace a button battery to consider a button battery holder install.

Thanks, but no I don't remember doing anything like that. Work great though!
I have exactly this issue with mine, but please could you (or somebody) let me know where I could find a replacement LCD display unit?
You might notice that the display is sitting too far back in the machine which cuts the viewing angle. I always get it flush when I do these.
How to order and get the Alesis Midiverb 4 Digital Processor LCD Display.,
Great video on the Quadraverb
How mich volts uses the Display? 3.3v or 5v??
Excellent repair and information. Thanks
Thanks, appreciate that!

No way of knowing without the machine on my bench, sorry!

Great skill. Can you do a video showing the correct way to desolder pcb and which products / devices you use ?

Yes he back-light is part of the display.

You have to start sending from the QV, and I would use something like www.midiox.com/ to capture the data. What does the manual say?
Do you know if the display you used for the replacement would work in the original QuadraVerb, and what part number/source did you use?

Don't do this, buy a battery holder for a 2032 and replace the solder in battery with a replaceable one.
