Thank you guys for sticking around for one of the most chaotic lists ever made. That was so fun!! 💞
No one could have anticipated that with Omar, UXM#1 would be left off the list. Seeing Omar's slow decent into disbelief and hopelessness made this the best stream in recent memory.
One of the best streams I' was able to watch LIVE. It was insane how Omar fought so hard for Uncanny 1, but Peter sided with Phoenix instead. I loved it. I was laughing so hard. I wonder how it would have gone with Kurtis if he didn't have to leave.
This has got to be the funniest live stream I’ve ever seen. My stomach was hurting laughing so much. Watching streams like this reminds me why I love the community so much. Nice friendly hangout here.
This panel had Omar arguing in favor of Bendis Avengers against his beloved Busiek/Perez Avengers ANNNNDD all told him Phoenix Omnibus was a better choice than UXM 1. Was the plan to send Omar to therapy? Hahaha
Oh, my goodness. This stream was so much fun. I love these evergreen videos. Another vote for worst omni. Also, Omar hope you are still doing the manga evergreen video. Another fun choice would be ip comics. (gijoe, transformer, smurfs, robotech, donald duck, scooby-doo, aliens, etc.)
Hahaha this was one of the most fun I have had watching a stream from you guys! I was expecting omar to null and void the picks for Kurtis not being there until the end as a tie breaker hahaha :D keep up the good work! Can't wait for more these kinds of videos, pity that the live was at this hour but I had fun nevertheless watching the replay :-)
Certainly an engaging stream, appreciate you & your guests for putting this content together. Obviously everyone will have their own titles they'd want to be available, whether to entice new readers or showcase the best of that character/creative team. Didn't agree with many of those titles but that's as much as they didn't reflect the types of Omnibus I've grabbed during the past 5-6 months as I begin my journey into the hobby. Surely with an EverGreen collection, you want titles that reflect the diversity of Marvel's rich history, to get new readers to pick up content of a character that leads them further into buying, etc. *Tomb of Dracula* was a title which didn't interest me Persian but I have seen alot of seasoned collectors crying out for that title to be reprinted. Similar to Brubaker's well hyped Captain America run, they're titles which may not be best to always be available but you hope they get regular reprints every few years so those building collections will have access to fresh stock. I loved seeing *Secret Wars* and *Infinity Gauntlet* put forward, as they're events that feature alot of characters and can have new readers like myself then wanting to explore these characters that they wouldn't have generally went for. You have titles like *Amazing Spiderman Vol 1* and surely *Wolverine vol 1* which would look awesome on the list, as new readers will want those as a starting point ahead of being told to grab a recent run that adapts the character further. You'll also have new readers more familiar with recent material than silver age too, so it shouldn't just be all _dated_ material. I started reading Hickman's FF1 the other week before stopping myself as I felt that I should read *Civil War* first to give me a better understanding of what's taking me into the FF run. Loving the Civil War TPB but a bigger Omnibus collecting abit more focus on those characters is something that would appeal to me. The MCU will also be a huge factor in what's leading new readers to pick up source material, with the *Secret Wars* title (more likely loosely worked from Hickman's run than the Battle World version) but you'll have new readers wanting to read the stories behind those titles, similar to what the Infinity Gauntlet has done. There was alot of X-Men put forward, which I respect, but as a new reader it is such a daunting aspect of 'Where do I start with it?' Compared to other characters, events and IPs which seem alot more clear. Similar to FF, some new readers will want access to the golden age origins, some will want a specific creative team's run. So it's a hard call on what best to put forward which appears to the masses rather than completions or someone with a nostalgia vibe. Best of luck getting the list through with Marvel though. Love the content as always and really hope we get a *DC Omnibus evergreen* list, even if their collection system seems alot more all over the place with Absolute format being a big one they use (personally not a fan).
What a hilarious video!! Did not expect this at all. I love when you are all together for these panel videos, like the monthly previews. Such a great group of friends, & always a great laugh. My picks would definitely be ASM vol. 1, & UXM vol.1. Such iconic characters, stories, appearances, etc. They were also my first omnis i ever bought, & my definition of Marvel. I'd throw in Aliens vol.1 too, for all the sci-fi fans who love the franchise.
I actually do agree that John Byrne’s FF is more captivating to read than the stories in FF omnibus 2. It definitely is a slow burn but you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next
This was a fun discussion. Really loved the energy you guys have (especially towards the end, poor Omar). Here are my 3 Marvel Omnibuses that I think should be evergreen: 1. Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman 2. Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender 3. Spider-Man by Roger Stern
Wow, a lot of circular arguments here: "if a reader wants this thing and this thing and that thing, all of which A contains, then A is the right choice." And that's precisely why these things are so enjoyable to listen to. Passion. Like Map my X.
That was hilarious! I guess there is a question of what makes an evergreen book. If the Phoenix volume is a great one and done then that is a strong argument, similar to the Immortal Hulk.
Absolutely had a blast watching this, what a great idea! I must say that despite the fact that I love Astonishing X-men and couldn’t get into the chris Claremont stuff, I’m surprised Uncanny X-men Vol 1 wasn’t an obvious pick. It’s essentially the gateway drug to collecting x-men in omnibus format, and allows people to explore many different paths of collecting from one book. To me this is the point of an evergreen omnibus, since if this became permanently out of print it would hinder many from buying other x-men books.
Video convinced me to finally grab a copy of Phoenix vol 1, lol. I've been hemming and hawing over buying it for a long time now. I was a big fan of the X-men back in the '90s. The last comics I read before I quit comics altogether until just a few years ago were X-men comics (well... Generation X). I don't know much about the Phoenix stuff other than stuff I remember seeing in the cartoon. Guess I'm kinda excited to finally read it, even though I'm not an X-men fan really nowadays. I think Infinity Gauntlet makes sense as an "evergreen" too. I just think that there will probably always be people looking for it from now, especially after the MCU representation of it, so it always being available just seems "right" to me. Stream also reminds me I wanted to grab the Spider-Man Blue Gallery Edition. I should see if those are still available. edit: Oh! MY Spidey pick? Honestly, with how hugely popular Spider-Gwen is now, I just had so much fun reading through the Spider-Gwen omnibus (the first one). If it has to be Spider-MAN, then I'd probably go with Spider-Man vs Venom or Michelinie and McFarlane's Spider-Man omnibus.
This was pure gold! So many laughs x'D Not gonna lie the list isn't that bad at the end, only a bit surprised that there was no Jason Aaron Thor at all :o
Aaron's Thor is an ALL TIME GREAT, but... two volumes. I think a lot of obvious 2-3 volume sets got left in the dust on this list in favor of 1-and-dones.
I was gonna do some timestamps for each person's introductions to their picks and then the discussion for each person's picks, but I think I'll just do my 2 favorite ones, instead. 35:46 - _FORESHADOWING..._ 2:05:45 - If there was any doubt that 0dfel was the MVP of the show (and there shouldn't be), this part should remove it. This video is just so fun, I've been rewatching it the last few days. It's got me interested in Black Cat now, which I find surprising (and an older video has gotten me interested in Squirrel Girl of all things now, lol).
Since the vast majority of my omnis are all about the Marvel mutants, I figured if nothing else that Uncanny 1 would make the list. However, after hearing the case for and against... I found myself in agreement with Phoenix being a better pick over Uncanny 1. I never gravitated to any of the other Marvel team books, so no FF or Avengers needed for me... but I can see why Gauntlet would be a good pick. I do think there should be a better Spidey representation- for that I would go with JMS Amazing 1. I'd also have gone with Secret Wars and Tomb of Dracula.
Krisis's picks are spot on! ... and so are his reasons. Astonishing X-Men is by far my favorite modern comic run. Secret Wars is, together with Dark Phoenix Saga, what I remember best from childhood and got me back into comics as an adult. Also very happy to see Ødfel pick the Phoenix Book - a perfect book (ok it could've collected Days of Future Past to make it the uptime X-men collection, but...). I am very happy that I own the first printing without the volume number, so it can stand alone and I don't need the vol. 2 brick. I also agree with Lars, many can recognise that Kirby was a creative giant, and like his costumes and space-scapes, but most under the age of 50 will struggle with the dates stories and especially the VERY dated dialogue. Hahahaha, Omar is really struggling with people wanting other book in there than his picks 🤣
I would do Ultimate Spider-man volume 1 (Spidey should have a evergreen book since he is the flag ship character for marvel), Frank Miller Daredevil (I feel like the most constant good runs deserves a great character to jump on and feel miller is a keystone run), and for the final book has to be X-men... the question where would you start I want to Claremont and Lee Volume 1 just because I want the reprint lol, but would go Uncanny X-men volume 1. I do find it interesting that the list doesn't have Spider-man in the final list.
Most enjoyable! Would like to see the panel doing say the best 5 books/stories for a certain characters series competitive lists for the fun (for example best five Daredevil whilst having some obvious early agreement picks would get real interesting for lower picks)! I like the Immortal Hulk but that over Peter David Hulk I would argue is a definite recency bias example, should be Peter David Hulk on the list in my opinion but that's part of the fun of different ideas on this. My big take away is I need to read that Black Cat Omni!
I just recently got into Omni collecting, but the Phoenix vol 1 is one of the few I own. Only other thing I own on this list is Astonishing, but I have it in OHC. I now have several new omnis from this video added to my wishlist.
Wow! Fantastic Four Omnibus 2 voted out? I guess the John Byrne would've been the better choice. I mean FF 2 only included: (1) The origin of Dr. Doom. (2) The first appearance of Johnny and Sue Storm's father (3) A team up with the Sub Mariner (4) The first appearance of the Frightful Four (5) Dr. Doom commandeering the Baxter Building and fighting Daredevil. (6) The wedding of Sue and Reed Richards (7) The first appearance of The Inhumans. (8) The first appearance of Galactus (9) The first appearance of the Silver Surfer (10) "This Man, This Monster" (11) The first appearance and origin of the Black Panther (12) The return of the original Human Torch (13) Johnny Storm going to college (14) Dr. Doom stealing the Silver Surfer's cosmic powers. Guess in retrospect this omnibus really didn't stand a snowball's chance against John Byrne's run.
I tried! I think any Volume 2 was gonna be doomed (ha!) in an evergreen show. In retrospect, maybe we should've just set ground rules that all Vol. 1 1961-1963 silver age titles are grandfathered into being evergreen.
These are the 10 Books that I’d keep evergreen from these picks 1: Immortal Hulk by Ewing and Bennett 2: Hawkeye by Fraction and Aja 3: Thor by Walt Simmonson 4: Tomb of Dracula by Wolfman and Colan! 5: Avengers by Biusiek and Perez 6: Fantastic Four Vol. 2 by Kirby and Lee 7: Silver Surfer by Slott and Allred 8: Astonishing X-Men by Weddon and Cassady 9: Amazing Spider-Man by Ditko and Lee 10: Color series by Loeb and Sale this list is objective and is completely based!
This was great. I agree with Omar though, Uncanny X-Men Vol 1 should have been on the list. What a travesty. My top 3 (at the moment) would be: 1) Astonishing X-Men. 2) Ultimate Spider-Man Vol 1. 3) Hawkeye by Fraction
Hahaha. Omar freaking out is gold. I read Astonishing and New X-Men and loved it. Read UXM1 and struggled to finish it. Personally don't think it's a good introduction and unless you already love the x-men enough to want to learn more. So i agree with everyone else :p
I couldn't believe no Captain America by Ed Brubaker... My list would be 1) Uncanny X-Men Volume 1 2) Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1 3) Fantastic Four Volume 1 4) Captain America by Ed Brubaker Volume 1 5) X-Men by Jim Lee and Claremont Volume 2 6) Astonishing X-Men 7) Uncanny X-Force 8) Daredevil by Frank Miller Volume 1 9) Planet Hulk 10) Fantastic Four by Hickman Volume 1
If we take DC’s standard to choose the top 10 Marvel evergreen, the answer will become quite clear. Frank Miller DD companion omnibus, and Miracle man omnibus by the unnamed creator should be no brainers.
@@PeterMarinari maybe Marvel cannot forever print Miracleman? I am not sure about these licensing stuff, but they always seem to be problematic for Marvel.
@@shengcer I just took a deep dive into this when I wrote my guide. Apparently, since it came out that Mick Anglo owned the copyright on Marvelman in 2009, each run on the character is more-or-less creator owned and Quality Communications and Eclipse Comics have no claim on them. Moore apparently granted Marvel the right to reprint his bit if they would donate his proceeds to Anglo (shortly before Anglo passed), so who knows how long-term that might be. However, Gaiman tends to be much less mercurial about the reprint rights of his stuff, so I suspect he's perfectly happy for them to stay a Marvel.
@@PeterMarinarimy gut feeling is as long as Moore stays anonymous on the creators list, he is fine to let Marvel print this work on and on. I don’t believe Moore has any specific beef with Marvel, unlike his bumpy (to say the least) relationship with DC. That said it’d be a shame if a few years later something happens and Miracleman goes OOP forever. I really do feel this is Moore’s one of the more important works.
I think the thing with the Phoenix omni is you don't need to triple-dip it if you're already committed to the UXM line, but for people who want ONE CLASSIC X-MEN OMNI, it's a perfect buy.
@@PeterMarinarifair enough and you're not wrong. That said I already have Phoenix vol 2, I am crazy enough to triple dip, and that standard cover for vol 1 is totally awesome. BTW Peter, thanks for stirring the pot and bringing the chaos, I always enjoy your appearances on NMC and love your website. .
As someone who tried to read Claremont's run from the beginning and kind of bounced off it, I can understand the hesitancy. But, I'm also someone who just bought Uncanny vol 1, 3, the Epics that make up vol 2 (waiting on vol 2 reprint) and will be continuing to get all of his run and the adjacent X titles in Omnibus (sidenote: I watched the vol 5/prelude to Mutant Massacre stream and I am someone who definitely will be going to event route for those Omnis and will only pick up individual title books when I have to). For people who really want to get started in X-Men, I think Claremont isn't the best place to start because those early issues are tough to get through, however, I think it's an evergreen book because eventually all X fans will make their way to it whether from the beginning or down the line.
I think this is exactly why I am shy about pumping up UXM Vol. 1 too much. People really get hype for it and bounce all the time. I think it's better to start later in Claremont. Honestly, Claremont/Lee Vol. 2 is an amazing first book.
@@PeterMarinari I agree. I'm probably in the more unique case of it grew on me to the point that I love that first volume now. The character work he does in it is truly the foundation of the characters we love now. Honestly, I think vol 1 and 2 should be evergreen. Everyone will pick up vol 1 as evidenced by the sales now, and I think vol 2 would be right along with it as the next go to. You get Dark Phoenix and DoFPast. Vol 2 over Phoenix 😂
My List would be: 1. Avengers by Busiek vol 1. 2. Captain America by Ed Brubaker vol. 1 3. Astonishing X-Men 4. Planet Hulk 5. Ultimate Spider-Man vol. 1 6. Daredevil by Miller Companion 7. Colors by Loeb and Sale 8. Infinity Gauntlet 9. Ms. Marvel (kamala) Omnibus vol. 1 10. Best Marvel Stories by Stan Lee
Fantastic Four 2, Uncanny X-Men 3, Daredevil by Frank Miller, Black Cat, New Avengers, Immortal Hulk, Wolverine 1, Astonishing X-Men, Civil War, Ultimate Spider-Man 1. That's my 10. They tick all boxes of representation. But only a person alone can up with a list like that, not a panel. A panel is fun though ;)
Name one other Spider-man Omni has as many of the iconic moments that currently does not come from the standard Amazing Spider-man line, I'll wait, if any book should have made the list it should be ASM vol 1 it is the textbook definition of evergreen, it is literally the era Marvel wishes Spider-Man could be stuck in status quo wise. How did it not make this list. I'm pretty sure the reason Marvel and DC (less so DC because they have books that will never be out of print) are losing to manga right now is that most of these manga distributors in the west actually keep the books in print, especially notable series, yeah volumes may go out of print here and there but they don't go out of print for years, decades at a time for iconic series. I get that manga is probably cheaper than the material that Marvel and DC puts out both in production and in retail, but by limiting the amount of stock on both physical and digital shelves, less people are going to buy your books if they go out of print a year after that printing. How is it that Wolverine Omnibus Vol. 1 was first printed in 2009 and did not get a second printing until 2020? Why is it that despite the Epic Collection being created as a format to be accessible so that people can focus on getting a good chunk of continuity whilst Marvel does not have to worry about the volume number curse, why are they always out of print, why are they the opposite of what they are supposed to be? It is a basic rule of supply chain management, always have enough stock on the shelves, so that people can buy it when they want it, when you run out of stock for long periods not only are you losing an individual sale, you are potentially losing a potential reoccurring customer especially if it was going to be a customer's first time purchase. For instance, say you recommend someone Frank Miller's Daredevil run, they've never read a Marvel comic in their life before but they liked the Netflix show, they go to the store or Amazon or any retailer, and they look for the 3 trades or the omnibus, and.... they are not in stock and are out of print. there is nothing to stop this person from just turning around and buying the first two deluxe editions of the Berserk manga instead because they heard good things about that series too, and now if they get hooked on Berserk they now have 12 volumes they can buy in the future, why? Because those volumes are always available. In effect Marvel has just given their potential profits to Dark Horse or any other Manga distributor because they refuse to keep stuff in print.
I am very surprised that 7 such knowledgable people all kept saying "had it been a X-Men Dark Phoenix Saga Omnis" or "It should be renamed to X-Men Dark Phoenix Saga Omnis" THERE WAS!! I have it right here on my shelf. Called "X-Men The Dark Phoenix Saga".. an of course it is an omnibus, look at the spine. (EDIT: oh know I see they finally found out 🤣 )
How is it not an omnibus when it says Omnibus on the spine? On the shelf with it are 4 other omnibus where the word Omnibus is only on the spine Secret Wars Squadron Supreme Wolverine by Millar Astonishing X-Men
I think some of this was being WAY overthought by just about everyone but Omar. Too much about trying to get into the heads of hypothetical and would-be could-be readers when the ACTUAL readers of these books have spoken with their wallets. People that ACTUALLY BUY omnis have put Uncanny 1 and ASM 1 through more printings than any other book on these lists. It's pretty cut and dry that that is the definition of something that deserves to be evergreen. When Phoenix and Black Cat sell out their 5th printing and more people are still clammering for it, we can reevaluate.
I've thought about this a lot over the past day, and here's where I come down on it: Some people on the panel (and A LOT of people in the chat) decided that sales history was their top criteria, but that wasn't one of the rules of the debate. My criteria was very much "is this one extremely expensive book a satisfying repeat read" and having podcasted through every page UXM Vol. 1 I just don't feel that way about it anymore. I'm perfectly fine with mounting demand being the thing that pulls it back into print again and again.
@PeterMarinari Fair enough, Peter. I may have missed the rules somewhere along the line here. Either way, I enjoy the debate and am just throwing down my strongest point to join in. I was, and anyways am, intrigued and interested in your take.
No worries, @@LukeJH11. I've really loved how everyone has responded to this one. Clearly we're halfway trying to make a great list and halfway playing a game with each other, but I think we're all pretty internally consistent about what we value in a book. Except I will not vote for Lars 😉 😂
Man, I'd do terrible at coming up with a list like this. I'm not a big X-Men fan and I doubt there'd be much demand for the Eternals Omnibus in evergreen.
I have to say with this many people and of course the lag (we do this all the time at work) it's hard to get a word in, that's why Omar kept saying Go ahead Odfel or go ahead Peter. I think it was handled well.
If Omar sent this to marvel I guarantee they swapped out Phoenix and Colors for a Spider-Man book (how did nobody suggest stern Spider-Man???) and giant size X. Everything else looks pretty on the money though
the fact that a conversation about axing uncanny x-men vol 1 off an evergreen list for a phoenix omnibus alone pretty much destroys half the peoples credibility to even be taken seriously. Chris Claremont's run defines the x-men. and what will sell the most will be the beginning. not to mention pretty much that whole omni is contained in Uncanny vol 1 and 2
Boxes need checking. For example, among 10 Marvel evergreens, the 1960s box needs checking through FF2. I can't imagine any debate. So, 60s done. One of at most two FF spots done. Onward... Avengers need a spot. Debate. I go with New Avengers. It checks another box: 1 of at most 3 2000s books. Why so many 2000s books? Because of the brilliant quality during a decade that pulled comics out of their 90s slump. Onward, next box... what I'm saying is, you people need an excel sheet for doing this.
@@NearMintCondition I agree. FF 2 is the ONLY silver age book that, to me, deserves a spot. If a whole panel doesn't include it, perfectly fine. But the sales logic really doesn't make sense, at least not for more than three or five books. Because that would just mean ask Marvel what their ten best selling books are.
Listen I love Busiek but the man writes for the old man nostalgic crowd, gonna put what was famously the most laughed at and lowest rated super team over what drove modern Marvel? Crazy
Silver surfer and Thor should be removed in favor of Cap by Brubaker and a Spider-Man book. For the DC poll you disallowed Adam’s Batman due to the colors. Thor’s are just as bad.
God,people reccomending Frank Quietly drawing x-men makes me want to vomit. Then follows it up by reccomending Michael Allred....well I know now if omnidog says he likes it I should probably stay away.
Thank you for being a part of this chaos with us, folks! I think we broke Omar, but we also got to talk about 19 really amazing books along the way (20, if you count Lars's rogue additional pick). I'd love to know what Spidey omni you think should have made the list.
Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Straczynski Omnibus Vol. 1 is my pick. Perfect introduction to 616 Spider-Man and doesn't have the Silver Age stigma (although I love the SA, too!)

Best of luck getting the list through with Marvel though. Love the content as always and really hope we get a *DC Omnibus evergreen* list, even if their collection system seems alot more all over the place with Absolute format being a big one they use (personally not a fan).
I agree with Omar 100%…classic Spider-Man is the way to go. Totally readable.
No Spider-Man omnis on the evergreen list is pure insanity, and I say this as a die-hard X-Men fanboy...
The roger stern run should be evergreen at least.
That was a fantastic Live video! Congrats on taking the gloves off! The stakes should be HIGH when discussing these evergreen lists!!
I actually do agree that John Byrne’s FF is more captivating to read than the stories in FF omnibus 2. It definitely is a slow burn but you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next
It was hilarious watching Omar losing it over UXM.
This was a fun discussion. Really loved the energy you guys have (especially towards the end, poor Omar). Here are my 3 Marvel Omnibuses that I think should be evergreen:
1. Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman
2. Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender
3. Spider-Man by Roger Stern
Wow, a lot of circular arguments here: "if a reader wants this thing and this thing and that thing, all of which A contains, then A is the right choice."
And that's precisely why these things are so enjoyable to listen to. Passion.
Like Map my X.
That was hilarious! I guess there is a question of what makes an evergreen book. If the Phoenix volume is a great one and done then that is a strong argument, similar to the Immortal Hulk.
always a good time with the gang
Absolutely had a blast watching this, what a great idea! I must say that despite the fact that I love Astonishing X-men and couldn’t get into the chris Claremont stuff, I’m surprised Uncanny X-men Vol 1 wasn’t an obvious pick. It’s essentially the gateway drug to collecting x-men in omnibus format, and allows people to explore many different paths of collecting from one book. To me this is the point of an evergreen omnibus, since if this became permanently out of print it would hinder many from buying other x-men books.
Great concept for a video, this was fun. It's like map my X only more chaotic 😂
This was an Awesome stream! So entertaining, you all rock!
And yes, I’m convinced to now check out the Black Cat Omni.
This is the comment that gives me the strength to go on with life!
@@OmnidogsVault 💪
My "BIG 3" Evergreens are:
1. Avengers by Kurt Busiek & George Perez
2. Infinity Gauntlet
3. Immortal Hulk
This was pure gold! So many laughs x'D
Not gonna lie the list isn't that bad at the end, only a bit surprised that there was no Jason Aaron Thor at all :o
Aaron's Thor is an ALL TIME GREAT, but... two volumes. I think a lot of obvious 2-3 volume sets got left in the dust on this list in favor of 1-and-dones.
"That's ok he's on medication kids"
That part made me laugh so hard.
HAHAHAHA
I was gonna do some timestamps for each person's introductions to their picks and then the discussion for each person's picks, but I think I'll just do my 2 favorite ones, instead.
35:46 - _FORESHADOWING..._
2:05:45 - If there was any doubt that 0dfel was the MVP of the show (and there shouldn't be), this part should remove it.
This video is just so fun, I've been rewatching it the last few days. It's got me interested in Black Cat now, which I find surprising (and an older video has gotten me interested in Squirrel Girl of all things now, lol).
Daaaaang…the fix was in for Omar 💀😂
. I am really enjoying this Evergreen series. Keep up the great work!
1. Busiek/Perez Avengers vol 1
2. Zdarsky Spider-Man
3. Remender Uncanny X-Force
4. Priest Black Panther vol 1
5. Bendis/Maleev Daredevil vol 1
6. Fraction/Brubaker Iron Fist
7. Hickman Fantastic Four vol. 1
8. Aaron/Dillon PunisherMAX
9. DeConnick Captain Marvel
10. Cable & Deadpool
This was EXTREMELY entertaining. ❤💯💯💯💯❤️
I can’t believe I missed this one live! Darn work meetings
What in the Holy Hell happened here? Dan Slott In but Claremont/UXM Vol 1 is out? I've officially entered Bizarro World.
Totally just ordered the Blackcat Omni
How do you like it,I never trust omnidog,he likes everything I dislike. Lol
They did you wrong on the Uncanny and ASM 1s, Omar. I won't lie lmao
I mean FF 2 only included:
(1) The origin of Dr. Doom.
(2) The first appearance of Johnny and Sue Storm's father
(3) A team up with the Sub Mariner
(4) The first appearance of the Frightful Four
(5) Dr. Doom commandeering the Baxter Building and fighting Daredevil.
(6) The wedding of Sue and Reed Richards
(7) The first appearance of The Inhumans.
(8) The first appearance of Galactus
(9) The first appearance of the Silver Surfer
(10) "This Man, This Monster"
(11) The first appearance and origin of the Black Panther
(12) The return of the original Human Torch
(13) Johnny Storm going to college
(14) Dr.
@@PeterMarinari This was almost like watching an episode of "Dallas". Can hardly wait for the DC Omnibus Evergreen list.
Who'd want to read that stuff??😱
Awesome video as usual
14:40
The Seeds of Death - Patrick Troughton, Ice Warriors and season six
The Seeds of Doom - Tom Baker, Kynoids and season thirteen.
Now we need to the voting for 2024 reprints so I can buy some of these.
These are the 10 Books that I’d keep evergreen from these picks
1: Immortal Hulk by Ewing and Bennett
2: Hawkeye by Fraction and Aja
3: Thor by Walt Simmonson
4: Tomb of Dracula by Wolfman and Colan!
5: Avengers by Biusiek and Perez
6: Fantastic Four Vol. 2 by Kirby and Lee
7: Silver Surfer by Slott and Allred
8: Astonishing X-Men by Weddon and Cassady
9: Amazing Spider-Man by Ditko and Lee
10: Color series by Loeb and Sale
this list is objective and is completely based!
New Avengers was one of the first few series that brought me into comics and the inclusion of the Sentry makes it a great pick.
It was the driving force of modern Marvel. I’m gonna bet that once the reprint drops they’ll have to do a restock
@hobbes6392 I can confidently say I will be a contributor to that almost certain eventuality.
If you do share this list, include your picks of UXM and ASM and call the top 12.
Great suggestion, we want Omar to keep his connections with Marvel lol
1:37:16 Omar, NO. I read Avengers Forever with NO knowledge of any Avengers history and was CAPTIVATED. It made me interrested in reading back issues.
Hahaha. Omar freaking out is gold. I read Astonishing and New X-Men and loved it. Read UXM1 and struggled to finish it. Personally don't think it's a good introduction and unless you already love the x-men enough to want to learn more. So i agree with everyone else :p
I'm with Omar. Not having Uncanny X-men on this list is mind blowing to me.
This was SO GOOD!!
I couldn't believe no Captain America by Ed Brubaker...
My list would be
1) Uncanny X-Men Volume 1
2) Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1
3) Fantastic Four Volume 1
4) Captain America by Ed Brubaker Volume 1
5) X-Men by Jim Lee and Claremont Volume 2
6) Astonishing X-Men
7) Uncanny X-Force
8) Daredevil by Frank Miller Volume 1
9) Planet Hulk
10) Fantastic Four by Hickman Volume 1
Well they each had three and they didn't know which books the other panelist would be picking. It was exciting to watch.
If we take DC’s standard to choose the top 10 Marvel evergreen, the answer will become quite clear. Frank Miller DD companion omnibus, and Miracle man omnibus by the unnamed creator should be no brainers.
I really thought about picking Miracleman but I wasn't sure if I could get it past these folks.
Guess I have to triple dip with the Phoenix Omnibus vol 1.
BTW Peter, thanks for stirring the pot and bringing the chaos, I always enjoy your appearances on NMC and love your website. .
I hope you guys do a DC evergreen list..and leave Batman off the list. That way you can get black listed by both companies.
They just did and put 4 Batman books on it and made it a top 12 so they wouldn’t leave out Flash and Green Lantern.
That's cool. I must have missed the notifications. Thanks.
Lars was such a great sport on this one. So many lols.
Peter and Jess as Frenemies is my favourite thing on this channel.
What a brilliant fun stream 😂
My List would be:
1. Avengers by Busiek vol 1.
2. Captain America by Ed Brubaker vol. 1
3. Astonishing X-Men
4. Planet Hulk
5. Ultimate Spider-Man vol. 1
6. Daredevil by Miller Companion
7. Colors by Loeb and Sale
8. Infinity Gauntlet
9. Ms. Marvel (kamala) Omnibus vol. 1
I found Spider-Geddon to be very underrated, though not exceptional.
I actually like volume 2 more, but they would never pick a volume 2 for this.just like with FF.
I am very surprised that 7 such knowledgable people all kept saying "had it been a X-Men Dark Phoenix Saga Omnis" or "It should be renamed to X-Men Dark Phoenix Saga Omnis"
THERE WAS!!
I have it right here on my shelf. Called "X-Men The Dark Phoenix Saga".. an of course it is an omnibus, look at the spine.
(EDIT: oh know I see they finally found out 🤣 )
It was an OHC, not an omnibus.
How is it not an omnibus when it says Omnibus on the spine?
On the shelf with it are 4 other omnibus where the word Omnibus is only on the spine
Secret Wars
Squadron Supreme
Wolverine by Millar
Astonishing X-Men
This is one of the worst lists I have ever seen 😂😂😂
Fun stream though!
Surprised there was no Spider-man by Roger Stern vote.
Man, I'd do terrible at coming up with a list like this. I'm not a big X-Men fan and I doubt there'd be much demand for the Eternals Omnibus in evergreen.
Which Eternals omni would you pick?
@PeterMarinari the newest version is the most complete and there is no modern omnibus yet
I'm really tempted to get the new one, it's such a good map.
Lars is 100% wrong on the Spidey omni.
This was a really cool watch but uncanny not making the list feels so wrong
These are always fun to watch, but I do wish they wouldn’t talk over Odfel so much.
Chris Claremont's run defines the x-men. and what will sell the most will be the beginning. not to mention pretty much that whole omni is contained in Uncanny vol 1 and 2
I can’t hear omneeebus again
Boxes need checking. For example, among 10 Marvel evergreens, the 1960s box needs checking through FF2. I can't imagine any debate. So, 60s done. One of at most two FF spots done. Onward... Avengers need a spot. Debate. I go with New Avengers. It checks another box: 1 of at most 3 2000s books. Why so many 2000s books? Because of the brilliant quality during a decade that pulled comics out of their 90s slump. Onward, next box... what I'm saying is, you people need an excel sheet for doing this.
Part of evergreen means it has to sell well too. Sadly the silver age doesn’t as much as books from the last 20 years.
I tried putting more. :-
Please do a "worst omnibus" list!
Listen I love Busiek but the man writes for the old man nostalgic crowd, gonna put what was famously the most laughed at and lowest rated super team over what drove modern Marvel? Crazy
It's not the responsibility of consumers to bear the weight of guilt and crimes of creators. That's not on us.
Quietly is the best X-Men artist ever. New X-Men is easily the best X-Men run. astonishing sucks and is for tasteless normies.
Bleh!
