    This is the performance (and song) that made me a hardcore fan of the band. Also, the history of this particular show is amazing and inspiring, a true triumph.

    "Amore" ( www.dailymotion.com/video/x5hb9t1 ) is one of their songs that isn't very popular. It has some pretty nice surprises from the Kami Band so I think you'd enjoy it.

    The vocals may not have been the best but considering Suzuka was only 16 at the time and this was their first performance outside of Asia, not to mention the fact that there were 55,000 people there and hardly anyone in the crowd even knew who they were, I think she did pretty good.

      Oh shoot. That's not what I meant. She did great. I just look for something different when I listen. I listen to stuff that stands out to me. She has a phenomenal voice. I love Su and her vocal ability.

    This is a copy of something I saw somewhere about this performance.
    The song title actually means "No More, Bullying, Forever". It was the ending song at this show, where they managed to turn an epic FAIL into an epic victory.
    This was their first tour outside of Japan, and their first UK show
    - They booked a small stage but, for an unknown reason (some say that it was done on purpose to try to sabotage them), they were moved to the main stage at the last minute. Instead of 3-5 thousand of their loyal fans they faced 30-50 thousand (?) true
    metal-heads.
    - This was a crowd waiting for Ghost, Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden. 90% of them knew absolutely nothing about BM.
    - BM released their debut album just a few months before. All the above mentioned bands had several albums and decades of
    history behind them.
    - They were girls between 14-16, all their songs had backing tracks, they sang not in English (the only other metal band that
    could get away with it recently was Rammstein). The backing band was made up of session musicians. The girls were
    singing about chocolate, and they were playing hide and seek on the stage, literally. They already had their own made up
    religion about the Fox God, and their hand sign was mocking the devil's horns.
    - The elitists said this was NOT metal at all. They were nobodies and they didn't belong on the main stage of a metal festival.
    The girls and the band expected to get booed and bottled. There's a backstage photo of the girls before the show and their faces read "WE ARE F*CKED" And they went on the stage and Yui's hoodie got stuck in her hair, Moa's headset did not work and she missed the opening moves of the choreography. There was a close up of Yui's face on the projector screen at this moment, she saw what was happening, and for a moment her expression was like "Ok, forget it, NOW we are f*cked..."
    - You can see in your video that Yui's skirt also started to fall apart at the last song, IDZ.
    - So what happened? The crowd got a taste of the band at the soundcheck and they loved it. Then there was an epic (or ridiculous ?) Star-Wars style video intro showed on the screen. The first song started and 30 seconds later there were mosh pits forming. In the next song, Gimme Chocolate, there was a call-and-respond where Su effortlessly made the crowd sing the chorus in Japanese. Next came the solos and everybody sh!t themselves. Then the song titled Catch Me If You Can, then their women-empowering song, and then the ending song you saw. The biggest circle pits and WOD's of the festival.
    - Everybody was talking about them, and their T-shirts were top sellers even two days later.
    - If there's an epic entrance to the genre, this is it.

      I saw this before too! I think I saw it when it was originally posted on another video. Other people were giving bits and pieces of information about this performance, then one guy laid it all out like this. Somebody even posted a photo of the three girls looking nervous backstage in their hoods, right before they stepped out in front of this crowd, not knowing how it was going to go. It's a great story I really enjoyed hearing.

    Sis Anger!!! and From Dusk till Dawn are two deep cuts from Babymetal. great songs each perfectly blending the genre's...FDTD is a revalation for this band. I could easily see Su-metal existing in that style as a career path.

    • @pedrofusion
      @pedrofusion 6 лет назад +1

      Shark Alchemy Dude, FDTD gives me shills just remembering it, Su's vocals in it are absolutely amazing. And IMO, if not for the [REDACTED] part in the [REDACTED] I would consider it a perfect song.

  • @MKettunen
    @MKettunen 6 лет назад +14

    Personally I think this was one of Su's best performances. At least from the one I've heard. It is also seems little less post produced compared to some other live performances (Not that I think that their concerts are overproduced). The voice control was almost perfect and she put lot of emotion to the vocals.
    But I understand you when you say that you focus more on the band. I'm a guitarist myself so I have pretty much the same bias as you. They definitely have inspired me as musician.

  • @cic5
    @cic5 6 лет назад +8

    Nice reaction! your request for their least popular songs is very hard because everybody has their favorites and is not uncommon for one person to have one song rated as their least favorite and it turns out to be another one's favorite. To give you an example I've seen people rate "Karate" or "Gimme Chocolate" as their weakest songs and I believe they rock I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for what I'm about to write but the songs I don't like as much (but I still like and listen to) are "Meta Taro" and "Amore" if you want to listen to their least known songs you have to check their covers (which I believe are awesome) "Kimi to anime ga mittai", "Over the future", ""Chokoto love" (Yiu's solo), "Love machine" (Moa's solo), "White love angel of death version".
    Now if you want to listen to their crazier songs you have to watch "iine" (official video version), "From dusk till dawn live at the Palladium" and "Tales of the destinies live at Tokyo Dome".
    After all that rambing what I want you to watch is
    "Akatsuki" live at Budokan ruclips.net/video/DWRMx68jRCk/видео.html
    "Sis. Anger" live at Tokyo Dome www.dailymotion.com/video/x5nx7sk
    "Yava" at Big fox festival in Osaka www.dailymotion.com/video/x6gpgga and
    "Syncopation" at Big fox festival in Osaka www.dailymotion.com/video/x6h1uaj

    this is one of their best performances, and it's very iconic, they surprised like 50000 metal fans that were expecting other bands, they were supposed to play on a small stage but they got sent to the main stage to play for people that didn't know about them, it could have been a disastrer but they were not bood, they left the audience wanting more.
    the band is great, su is great live, and she's better than on the studio versions.

    And about this particular performance this was their first exposure to a western audience Babymetal initially was supposed to perform on a smaller side stage in front of about two or three thousand people at the last minute the promoter told them instead they were going to open the show on the main stage but they did not know it would be in front of 60,000 people as they had not had a chance to see the crowd so the nerves were definitely high with the girls there's little more to the story but this is the short version

    • @JGM0JGM
      @JGM0JGM 5 лет назад

      If by last minute you mean a few months, then you got it right! lol. I know, it's an epic story to tell, but the fact is that there were promotional videos several months ahead of the show that indicated that the venue was changed from the smaller stage to the main stage. However, everything else you wrote still stands, it was their first show in front of a large western crowd (they had smaller shows in France and Germany the weeks before Sonisphere, the Legend Y and Legend M shows), they were nervous, they were young, the challenge was huge, but wow, did they deliver!

    The band is fantastic but the girls deserve some props too. It took alot of nerve just to go out there, 16 and 15 year olds entering the real world of Metal. They could and probably would been booed off the stage if they didn't measure up. Not only did they measure up they left many in the crowd wanting more.

    It's too bad they didn't have better camera coverage on Takayoshi Ohmura's side of the stage.
    Of course Mikio was killing it on the left.

    It features guitars recorded by former Arch Enemy guitarist Christopher Amott.

    This is my favorite Babymetal Song, it is actually an Anti-Bullying song! Ijime, Dame, Zettai literally translate to Bullying, No, Absolute .... Though Dame translates to No, it is more then just a regular no ( which is "iie") It is a very firm emphatic and forceful no, so a more general translation would be "No More Bullying" or "No More Bullying Forever"

    • @Subjectivity13
      @Subjectivity13 6 лет назад

      In my Japanese class, Dame was translated as "no good" or "not good." I've seen mothers use it when scolding.

    Babymetal's most complicated arrangement to listen to is Tales of the Destiny. Very progressive. It is rarely played live, and I don't believe that it will ever get much air play. Amore is another song that while popular has some great riffs. From a player's perspective, Boh and Takeyoshi Ohmura identified that Death (previously covered) is the most difficult to play. Boh stated the bass line mirrors the guitar line; thus, there are some extreme left-hand stretches for him. Takeyoshi stated that the solo is the most challenging, especially given that it is typically the first song in their set.

    Babymetal: Black Babymetal: Sis Anger.
    Sis Anger is one of Babymetals more Controversial songs as the words used in it can be interpreted in a very vulgar way. In the Japanese Language some words have multiple meanings and in Sis Anger, they played with a few words that raised several eyebrows, especial coming from a couple of 15yr old girls(at the time). You might want to do just a bit of research on this one before you react so you will understand why its one of their most liked/disliked songs.

    Babymetal songs that aren't as popular? Hell, that's a fking task. I throw *From dusk till dawn* in there.The thing is, I don't think it's bad. I actually like it, but it's not very known, because there is neither a music video for it, nor do they play it on a regular basis. I think they played this song just once live and it's exclusive on the non-japan-version of the album. But because of this, there is no way to find a good live video of it. There is only this: ruclips.net/video/l2ZpXXs40BM/видео.html which is not live and without video. Other stuff you find is actually not in good quality at all. But it's worth hearing as f*ck, because even for babymetal standards it's insanely different from the other stuff of them. Other songs might be "Meta taro", "Uki Uki Midnight", or if you really want to go underground it's the covers they performed live. Such as the Moa-Solo "Love Machine", the Yui-Solo "Chokoto Love" or "Over the future" by Karen Girls which Su-Metal actually was part of before becoming a Sakura Gakuin member, where babymetal finally was formed. If you want a link to one of those, I can give you one too.

    You are an interesting guy with an honest opinion, and taking a surgeon's like viewpoint one can find fault in their show. However, consider this. Whenever you and your girlfriend have a romantic evening and end up making love, you don't talk about the details afterwards. In some cases, analysing robs the very magic from something beautiful. Some things in life are there to sweep you away, and this miraculous performance is one of them. Many people, grown men like me, ended up in tears witnessing this.
    I know, of course it doesn't sit very well with being a reactor and all, but I'm afraid this is the exception to the rule.

      Os 76 thanks for clearing it up. I guess this video reaction wasn't like the other ones so reacted that way. I understand different points of view. There have been A lot of reactors just trying to get subs so we as fans take this views sometimes. Like I said before if you want to experience the whole thing you have to watch big fox festival in Osaka or Tokyo dome red and black night. These concerts are awsome.

    Actually it's idz for Ijime (ee-jee-meh) Dame (Dah-Meh) Zettai (Zet-tie). Translation: Bullying (ijime) not good (dame) absolutely (zettai) or Bullying is very bad.
    I've also noticed in some of your other videos that you are mispronouncing Megitsune, which should be pronounced Meh-gits-soo-neh or Meh-gits-neh (quite often the u is dropped if it is mid-word). When reading Japanese words, A is always pronounced 'ah', E is always 'eh', I is always 'ee', O is always "oh" and U is always "ooh".
    Not judging, just trying to help.

    I don't get why you continue to react to their videos? In every video since the first you've said the same thing - the vocals are not the best; they don't stand out; they're nothing special. BABYMETAL is the three girls. It's all about their performance. As great as the Kamis are as musicians, the fact remains they are session musicians. They're not even always the same people - there are 4 guitarists, two bass players, two drummers and they rotate depending on who's available, although there are 4 who play more than others. If all you want is to hear/watch them, I can't help thinking you'd be better off reacting to videos of Mikio, Takayoshi, Leda, ISAO, BOH and Hideki. I think you'd have more fun and you wouldn't have to listen to/watch the girls (the stars) do their thing.

      Kami band makes the band who they are imo. They are very talented; whether it's many guys who come in to fill the role at any time. They are all talented. I said nothing bad about the vocals. Just that they didn't stand out. Obviously they can sing. I was blown away in a couple of them by both the Kami band and the girls. So I'm lost when you say it's the same reaction.

      Kami band are the least important. The most important thing is the concept and how the songs are written. Then there is Su and her voice (I don't know why you don't like it that much) and the stage presence of the girls. You can't swap them out as easily as you could do with any band member. The band members only have to be good enough to play the songs given to them without major flaws. You could find hundreds of people that wouldn't make much of a difference in the result.
      You can see that in other bands - when they changed the main vocalist in Nightwish the result changed much more than by changing the guitar player. But without the songs written by Tuomas it wouldn't work at all.

      I'm pretty sure no one would know who these guys are if it weren't for the girls to be honest. But I do not mean to take anything away from the musicians. If you have a background playing in a band or something it makes total sense that you would be into the instrumentation part so i understand. Besides, at least you're honest and not overly gushing about eveything so you get more 'Likes".

      Here is my take on this debate:
      The girls, each one of them are beyond phenomenal. They have talent and chemistry that surpass anything I have ever seen. The Kami Band (all of them even the "Reservists") are among the finest living musicians on Earth today.
      Would anyone of them, girls or band be successful on their own, or with out the group? Absolutely!
      But.....it's the combination that makes the Magic. Face it, who would have heard of Mikio or Takayoshi, Boh, Hideki, Leda...if it were not for Babymetal? They would be successful with their careers, but how many people know who the band on a Taylor Swift album is? They have well surpassed "session musician" status.
      And the Girls were successful before the introduction of Kami Band, but it was after that combination was made that Babymetal found themselves and their direction. It was also that combination that helped them explode into the world the way they did. The fact is that as incredible as Su, Moa and Yui are, if they didn't have the Kami's, they would be largely ignored in the West. So, because of the Kami Band, we all get to revel in the glory of the Girls. It is a symbiotic existence.
      And make no mistake, the Kami's are every bit a part of Babymetal as the girls are. Something people don't realize is that "Babymetal" is not a reference to the girls. Japanese and English does not always translate well, and the name has been (and still is ) misinterpreted. Babymetal, means the birth of a new form of Metal. In Japan, it makes sense and is crystal clear. In English, the name "Babymetal" puts the wrong image into our minds, which is unfortunate. I myself refused to listen to them for almost 2 years after I heard of them, based only on the name. I missed chances to see them live, and missed out on this amazing music because of my ignorance and snobby sensibilities.
      And now, I am part of The One.

      I said the Kami band would be unknown if it were not for the girls of Babymetal and that is true. What is also true is that it works in reverse as well. So you are absolutely right Richard Townsend. I just discovered this band last summer. The Kami band was already well established by then. I have a hard time watching those old clips with the bones band. To be honest, I doubt I would be into this band if that was my first experience with them, even with Su's voice blowing me away. So yeah, for sure, it IS a symbiotic relationship. With that, it is still understandable that a person's interest can be weighted more heavily to one aspect of the band then another.
