Oh man talked about sold huh! I hear that though, it's impressive in a lot of ways and such a good middle ground for so many things, and you can feel relatively good that it will hold up over the long run, which they have already had a long run pushing 15 to 20 years old.**SK**
I’m going to look at a 2 owner 05 Limited with 132k for $9300 tomorrow. Clean car fax with regular maintenance (oil and filter changes and other minor things for the most part).
Bought my 2007 Highlander with 160k a few years ago. Now in 2024 has 390k, all maintenance done by me. Gets 22 mpg, city. During the summer will be driving almost 4000 cross-country vacation with a twin size built bed, mini fridge plus other comforts. Have every intention to keep it 'till 500k😊 May the Yota force be with you.
I have a 2007 limited with 200,000 miles. It has been trouble free for the 50,000 miles I have driven it and it's the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned
The issue with the temperature changing from cold to hot has to do with the aging soldering of the wiring of the control knobs. You can send the control to companies online who repair the unit for about $75. You can "temporarily" fix the issue by doing exactly what you did - turn the know all the way one way then back. I've been "temporarily" fixing mine for ten years now.
I bought a 2005 model with the 4wd and V6 in 2008, in 2011 we moved to Sweden and kept it as our daily car until 2018 we loved it. Now we have it as our vacation car in Spain. The Highlander have never let us down at all, works so great Winter, Summer with or without family in the car. The best car we eve have had. We have had no (zero) issues at all and it has 120.000 miles now.
That's a great story right there. We have talked about keeping it for an extra vehicle to keep at home if we move elsewhere and keep the house, somewhat like what you have done. I don't think we will ever get rid of it. I'm just about to hit 190K, and it runs excellent still. Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation. Hope you subscribe and catch more videos and help support the channel. Either way, have a Merry Christmas and an awesome New Year!
I have a 2003 Highlander Limited, in excellent condition that was previously owned by a late family member. It had 88K on the engine, it now has 104K on it now. it's a great car and very reliable.
Sounds like the perfect vehicle to pick up. Super low miles still. I feel great all the time knowing the car is paid for and so reliable and so much life left. I am sure you feel the same, and rightfully so. Thanks for the feedback, be sure to SUBSCRIBE, and have a great weekend! **SK**
Hello! That is called a maintenance key. It's for when you leave it at a shop, the mechanic can turn on the car but cant unlock the glove box in case you're keeping personal stuff in there.
You have to initialize the sunroof everytime the battery is removed. Just push and hold the close button. It will automatically open and close when you press the button without holding it.
Thank you for sharing your experience with your 2005 HL. I have a 2005 HL AWD limited. I have the same issues with the tailgate and the moonroof. Mine has got 172 k miles. Yes, it is like new for the age (18 years old)!
I am not about to hit 190K, and she still drives the same as when I got her. Amazing vehicle! Thanks for watching & the feedback back. We have two other Toyota SUVs so be sure to Subscribe and catch those reviews and videos too. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Yeah that's awesome, 86K is nothing for these things. And I hear ya on the payment, always nice to not be shelling out on that each month. My wife loves this Highlander too, she was shocked how nice it was and still is to drive. We are actually thinking about getting rid of our Hyundai lease early...I'd like to double up with another Highlander or Tundra but we shall see.**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle she now drives the Highlander, I drive a paid for 2005 Matrix but would love to add a first gen Tacoma to the fleet if I can find a low mileage used one around. 👍🏻 best of luck on finding another Highlander or Tundra!
I had trouble with my reargate as well, and all I did was change out the hydraulic struts and now it is like new. Love this car. It has grown on me very quickly. Another thing you are missing here is that you aren't supposed to press and hold the button for the sunroof. It is a one time press and release. That way, it will shut the sunroof properly with no issues.
Oh, perhaps my doesn't work correctly then because it doesn't auto open/close unless held. And good call on the strut. Mine will have to get worse before I probably bother but I'm sure it's an easy fix. Just got new brakes done all around today, first real work I have done to the car. Still a gem for sure!**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle Yes sir, you might want to wait up on the struts if they're not completely shot. Thanks again for the video it was a lot of fun to watch.
The A/C knob has an issue. It gets loose and when it does, it screws up the connection. It basically needs to be taken apart and be re-soldered to the circuit board. You have to be very careful, though, because the ABS plastic is brittle and can easily break. Don't ask me know I know this.
Hey , I just bought a 05 (even thou I knew already)& Not sure if someone replied to the KEYS question…. One set is for Parking Attendant… It protects the Glove Box from being opened
Something must have happen to mine then because that is a very reasonable feat. But for me, now one won't open any door, but will start the engine. Completely baffling to me.**SK**
I have a 2004 Limited. Bought new, now only 90k mi, but almost all city. Original radiator, alternator, water pump and never even had to add refrigerant to A/C. Blows ice cold in Calif. Central Valley 105 degree heat. Only thing replace was timing belt service and rear struts. Nice back seat for granddaughter’s car sear and plenty of room in Mack for Costco trips. Great vehicle. Love it.
My mom drives one of those and it has been great for about a year now nothing major happened it's a 2007 Highlander with the 3.3 L V6 which has been great no major issues in the powertrain except for that transmission issue you did talk about when you're not going too fast it will feel jumpy and I have felt that like when you're coming off a stop sign you will feel that or when you're backing out of your driveway it will feel it and it feels weird I thought that it was the transmission wearing out but turns out I was wrong anyways the exterior of the car is in phenomenal shape and the interior is the Great the seats aren't worn out seriously worn-out the radio still works the AC still blows cold and so far everything's been great no major issues for 185k I love Toyota's I love Honda's I hope to get either a RAV4 or a Lexus ES as my first car
My great aunt used to have a 05 Highlander Limited which is silver with gray leather. She has had it for many years. She traded it in for a 2016 Acura MDX SH-AWD. I don’t know how many miles were on it.
Another wonderful car, can't go wrong with an MDX. I am now at almost 190K and it still runs great 🤞. I still love driving it. I drive it almost every day. Thanks for watching, be sure to Subscribe!
Mine has 140k miles. average mpg is 21 - no issue since 2005 (17.5 years old). V6 model. Pretty easy to do all basic maintenance like oil change, transmission fluid drain and refill,...but extremely difficult to replace spark plugs (end up having local mechanic to do the job for me for $365)
Yea I'm lucky to have a mechanic in the family so some of those tougher jobs shouldn't be too bad. But I have heard stories how most things are simple and then one or two are a real pain. But yea great car I cannot dispute that. I just did some more maintenance, and took her on her first long trip..held up great. Probably due to put out another video on her soon and discuss some updates, maintenance, and 2yr recap.**SK**
Sunroof can be reset. Make sure tracks are clear. Glass may need to be adjusted up or down by putting glass in tilt mode and loosening screws. Also, keep sunroof seal clean and mating surface where it meets metal. Front drains are visible but rear are not: Rear drains out behind each rear wheel, the front run inside front fender liners behind front wheels. White lithium grease ONLY. Solvents will dissolve tar-like sealant that seals plastic water accumulation trays to metal sunroof track system, and create a leak that will require removal of sunroof assembly entirely to repair. Speaking entirely from experience. Great vehicles! I've got a 2002!
I can be lazy...case in point just putting up with the issue by not rolling it back all the way, but I will say if I get a warm day out and not much to do I will give it a shot since that is a pretty detailed run down you gave me there. I appreciate it! Not looking forward to winter but I sure am happy to have this car to get me through it. I actually posted a video on its winter capability too. Thanks for watching, be sure to Subscribe!**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle It isn't necessary to hold the button for everyday operation- only to force sunroof all the way back- which it does NOT do automatically in everyday operation. It DOES go all the way back during reprogramming in order to verify correct operation to the computer. You CAN force the roof all the way back by starting automatic operation until it stops on it's own, THEN push and hold switch back to open another inch or so.
Still love ours. Since we got a 2015 Highlander Limited and 2015 Lexus LX 570 and.....I STILL LOVE THIS CAR! It's just so classic, rugged, comfortable and reliable. Hope yours continues to serve you well. I will be doing follow ups to this and reviews on the others so be sure to Subscribe and hit the notification bell! **SK**
Try to get that key replaced before it gets stuck or something because that's a very wired thing, maybe bent just enough you can't see it looking at it ,sometimes
Bought my 07 Highlander 2nd hand 8 years ago. It only had 30k miles at the time! Has 115k now. No mechanical issues at all. The sunroof did break, so it only pops up in the back now and will not retract back. It also leaks a bit in heavy rain. Toyota quoted 4k to fix it.
Yeah, save the 4K, but otherwise, it sounds great! It really is a great, reliable ride. What low miles too, you will have that one around for quite a while!
I haven’t noticed the crunch noise with the sunroof but I’m also annoyed with having to time the closing of the sunroof but beside that I love the thing
I have a silver 05 FWD 3.3 V6, it just hit 230k and still runs like it’s brand new, mine has cloth power drivers seat, factory sunroof, third row seat. And my sunroof is the exact same way and it drives me nuts
Yeah I still just stop 2 inch before it's all the way back lol. But otherwise the car runs great so I'll take it. I'm closing in on 200K within the next year. I love hearing all the stories of people's experience with their's. Thanks for your comments. Have a great summer and be sure to Subscribe!
I think the second key is a Valet Key... you should be able to lock your glove box.. the Valet Key doesnt open the glove box... so that you keep you belongings safe
SK Lifestyle: Thanks for the informative video on the Toyota Highlander. I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander Limited. I have experienced the Baffling noise while driving with your rear passenger windows down. Its’ quite annoying ! I have lessened the Baffling noise when having both the front and rear passenger windows open by keeping the top edges of the front and rear windows at the same height or elevation from the fully closed position. I normally will only open the windows, so there is a 3 or 4 inch from the top of the closed positions. That lessens the noise. Its better than having the window levels uneven. Also I never open or use my sunroof because of the same Baffling noise. I also do not like the mechanism that opens the sunroof, because if you push the button too long the window does not seat properly, like you mentioned in your video. I’m concerned that rain water may come inside. So, I just don’t use the dam thing. The problem with your Toyota key. The Highlander keys have computer chips embedded inside, that permits the cars security system to allow engine ignition. You should have your key checked. Out by a Toyota Dealer to fix that key. You can have duplicate keys made by Home Depot or Lowes or your area hardware store. Those keys will open your car doors but will not allow you to start your car. You were smart on how you fixed your leaking power steering line. I had a similar problem with my power steering line, but I could not crawl under the car to fix my problem due to a back problem. I had to have the dealer repair the line. It cost me close to $700. bucks, after everything was done. RUclips has a few videos on that repair that are a lot less expensive. Also check our A1 Auto for their RUclips videos on Highlander repairs. One last thing. My Highlander has a splash / mud guard under the front of the car which would protect they lower engine components for damage. Who ever had your vehicle before you did not bother to re install it. That happened to my Splash guard. After the first year of taking my Highlander to the dealer for regular oil changes, they did not bother to re install it and I did not catch it ! So, now I do not have a splash guard either. On last thing, the Toyota Highlander Limited edition, which has the digital dash heater controls does have digital read outs for external and internal temperatures, gas mileage, trip time, vehicle trip time ,gas consumption rate and a few other. Over the past 2 years, mice have destroyed my under hood insulating blanket. I have had a difficult problem with keeping mice from getting into the cabin filter area, from the outside the vehicle. Look forward to your future videos. I hope some of my comments will help other Highlander owners.
I have been lucky not to be sticken by mice (fingers crossed) in any vehicles, but I have heard it can be quite a pain. Thanks for all your feedback, I most certainly appreciate it very much, as I am sure others will benefit as well. This car is still holding up well. I am sure I will have more videos to come soon, along with our two other new to use cars a 2015 Highlander Limited & Lexus LX570. Thanks for watching & subscribing, have a great weekend!
Be glad you HAVE a console. My '01 Limited doesn't have anything there, except cup holders that pull out from the driver seat. I have to have a basket between the seats for my misc stuff that I want close/handy. Other than that, my Highlander looks almost exactly like yours! I'm getting about 25mpg in city. After having mine for 3 years, I've only put 13K miles on it. Now it has 166K miles. I do not have the third row of seating, but I don't need it. Lots of road noise. I do have a spoiler over the rear window. I don't nit-pick like you do.....I love my Highlander. Mine is the same color and it looks just as nice as yours! Mechanically, I've done a lot to mine, but it's 22 years old! (mine) Thanks for your opinion of your Highlander.
Interesting to hear about the cup holders. And surprised to hear 25 mpg in city. Wonder if that's due to a smaller engine/2wd or just less weight from the older model. Either way not a bad figure at all. Thanks for the feedback, and checking out the channel. Be sure to Subscribe! **SK**
$8K...a little high since it was during the shortage in the pandemic. But I still feel well worth it..and I wasn't in a position to wait a year for car prices to come down. Idk how the market is looking now on car prices, I'd imagine it's come down a little. Thanks for watching!**SK**
Thank you! I have a few videos on this Highlander, be sure to Subscribe and check them out! I am in the works of doing a 5 things I love video too. I also just put out a 5 things I hate video. Still a great car, i dont see me ever giving it up, even when I get another car. **SK**
Yeah it's def. getting up there these days. This car is OK. Not great. I probably avg about 19/20 mpg. It's always in 4WD so that is some of the cause. But on cruise for long drives it can prob. do 25 ish.**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle Ok not too bad. I have a 2008 toyota rav4 V6 4wd. Just drove to Disneyland from the Bay Area and averageed 24 mpg on the freeway. Thinking about switching over to a highlander for the 3rd row.
My one question about that is how then would someone return your car when you are back to pick up your car at vallet. Sure, the door is open when you arrive and hop out. But what do they do about not being able to open the door upon retrieval? I would think a valet key wouldn't open the glove box, fuel door, and trunk. **SK**
I don't have a highlander but I do have a 2006 RAV4 at 199k miles no major problems starts up in two cranks shifts butter smooth no leaks. Toyota power! 👍 I wouldn't mind a highlander though for the V6.
This drives like a 4 cylinder unless you lay into it or turn off Overdrive. So you probably feel more pep in the Rav4, but there is Jo doubt it is a V6 when your in low gear or step on it..or need to tow a bit
Thanks for your review and the tip about the power steering line. We sold our minivan during the pandemic and picked up a '06 Limited Highlander with 155,000 miles and a '03 base Acura RSX with the proceeds, since we had some time to learn how to do our own general maintenance and replace worn parts. The only real issue is a slow leak with the A/C, which I've found I need to recharge an average of 3 times throughout our humid Virginia summers. Not sure I would want to pay a mechanic to dig in to find where the leak is, as I can live with having to do the task. Otherwise, it's been a great, quality vehicle that drives smooth and will hold up for many more years to come.
That's awesome, glad it worked out for ya. I agree I wouldn't want to pay a mechanic if you could keep it going on your own. I'm lucky I have a few mechanics in the family but I would do the exact same. Thanks for watching. Hope you Subscribe! And hope you see many more years with your new Highlander!**SK**
At almost 60 yo this is the best car I have ever owned . I got mine as a as is trade in for 4 grand all I did was breaks and a 100,000 mile tune up and it hasn't cost me a dime .I origionaly told my neice to buy it and she thought it was too old and she bought a new Nissan Pathfinder . So I bought it . . I do get a chuckle when she borrows my old Highlander when her Nissan breaks down . What a greak SUV
I had a new Pathfinder, leased (videos up on the channel), and it went to the shop like 5 times in 3 years. This car, same, brakes and basic maintenance and that's it! I have put just about 50K on it since this video and I love it even more now. Thanks for watching and your feedback. Be sure to Subscribe and catch my future content. We have a newer Highlander now and a Lexus truck now too, so there will be videos on those as well.
That's awesome, thanks! I will be doing a 5 things I hate video soon so be sure to Subscribe and check that out. That said, it does not negate how good this car is, and you will be pleased if you find one.**SK**
Hello SK, I'm looking into buying a 2005 Toyota Highlander. Do you think a TALL PERSON can fit in comfortably and the Steering Wheel? Does it go up for legroom?
Hey Tyrone. Thanks for watching and sharing. Anyone over 6ft may not enjoy the driver setup. Headroom should still be okay. Bit I would test drive, maybe even just sit in it for a while without driving a ton. I know when I drive for long periods I wish the seat went back another 4 inches...or pedals weren't so close. hey SK great video we just bought a 04 V6 AWD same rims but like a midnight blue colour we live in Canada but anyways reason why your key doesnt open the door is because previous owner made a spare key programed to the ignition wasnt a original that would of started the car aswell as opened all doors my guess
Huh, now that's interesting and does make sense too. I have an aftermarket remote starter, so I always have that and the oem door remote on each set of keys so no matter what set of keys we have there are two backups to open the door 😅. Congrats on your new purchase, I am sure you can already tell how great it is. Thanks for the feedback, be sure to Subscribe!**SK**
Maybe just the camera view. It's not bad looking at it in person. 58K is awesome, you can drive that for a lifetime. I'm closing in on putting 50K on mine since I picked it up. Thing drives exactly the same. It's such a comfy workhorse. I would highly suggest to buy it as long as it is in good condition, not too much rust underneath. Best of luck on the search and thanks for watching. Be sure to Subscribe!
@chrispellicci6587 I was driving yesterday and I know what you mean, especially in the day time it is kind of dull. You can read it but it's not that great.
Thanks, will do! I may be doing my 1 year ownership review toward new years. Will discuss cost of maintenance, full issues, value, etc. I did make a winter video as well you may want to check out too! Audio comparison verse our new car & light swap videos as well. Thanks for watching & fedback. Be sure to Sub!**SK**
I'm 10K away from 200 now. Thing still runs the exact same. I did brakes. Going to slap on a new set of tires. It's a workhorse..and I still enjoy getting in it. Find a well kept one and you won't go wrong. I'd rather a well maintained 200K then 10 owner beat to hell with 120K. It will serve you well otherwise. Thanks for watching be sure to Subscribe!
One thing I found is that if you replace the alternator & belts & you start the car right away you will get a sqeaking noise for a period of time when you first drive. I looked it up on RUclips & mechanics said to turn on the key, wait for the seatbelt alarm to stop & it should not squeak. It may also squeak even if you start the AC too fast. Anyone else have this "problem"? The tempature is indicated on my rear view mirror on my 07. Also if you have never changed the transmission fluid regularly you may not want to have it flushed & new fluid because your transmission may slip. Scotty Kilmer has a great channel on Toyotas & cars in general. You air may be low on coolant so buy a recharge kit at Autozone..
A lot of good call outs, and yes I have heard the same I think from the car nut channel.maybr on the transition fluid. Thanks for the great feedback and comments. Be sure to Subscribe! **SK**
Yeah I think I'll eventually have to take that route. Little bit of laziness and being cheap keeping me from doing anything lol. But if it gets any worse I will definitely do that.**SK**
These are factory rims I believe. I've seen others with them, but I am not sure if it was an option at the time, or certain package or just a newer year rim. People put on this gen but I doubt that because the people who owned it before me didn't seem like the modifying type. It was a daily commuter always serviced at Toyota. I am sure you can find some Highlanders out there rotting away with some good rims you could swipe. I have seem a few other wheel variations and I agree these look the best.**SK**
Smart move!; These Toyotas are a great value new or used. I have a 2010 Highlander with 100k miles. I bought it new. It's in excellent condition. Aside from routine maintenance like brakes, tires, 2 batteries, and fluid changes, I had to do the front struts and a sensor that's it. Car drives like new. No creakes or rattles. Engine is smooth. Interior is clean. I'm keeping it for another 5 to 10 yrs at least. It has been paid off for the last 10 yrs. NO car payment since being paid off early,( I had put a large down payment) * pro tip: invest the money in the stock market that you would have spent on buying a new car every few years! You can literally amass hundreds of thousands of dollars with interest by doing that!! Anyone can become a millionaire in America! Just have some discipline and be smart and hope the democrats dont continue to destroy the once booming economic recovery. Buying a well made used Highlander can make you wealthy if you invest the money $$ saved instead of buying a new car every few years!
@@warrioroflight3813 Stick with the basics, cars made in mass (lots of spare parts) and that had low maintenance costs and strong reliability. Then look for one later in that generation when they perfected most issues, plus have better features. Lastly, shop for one in good condition, well taken care of, not just a "good deal". One that didnt have 12 owners & stock. No perfect science but that's about it. Can never really go wrong with a Honda or Toyota.**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle Found a 2002 with 127K 2 owners both in the West coast and decided to trade my Sentra 2015 with only 66k for it. It made sense :) Got a warranty just in case.
@@warrioroflight3813 I had a 2015 Sentra, I dont blame ya. I would put a week's salary on the Toyota outlasted the Nissan, even with more miles on it now. The Sentra was great when we leased it. Actually fun little car and quite spacious but these Highlanders deserve all the hype they get. Congrats on the new purchase! Hope to have a few new videos out on my Highlander soon as the weather clears up a bit. Be sure to catch them when they come out!**SK**
I am owing one also, 90K+ mileage. Unlike other SUVs, this unit-body car has a good rust-proof coating. As long as you wash the undercarriage regularly and re-paint the rust spots, the body frame will stay forever.
For the Ac ,if you start the car and it's been sitting in heat well that maybe why it takes an while to turn cool air, and it's age bro so that all makes that work that way.
Yeah my heating/cooling system has something funky up with it because whether you want heat or cold air I usually have to adjust the temp knob away and then back to what I want for it to kick on. But at least they both work and if that's it's one little quark so be it ya know. Certainly not paying money to look into it until something actually stops working.**SK**
I’m searching for the same car. How much you paid for yours? I have an appt to see to one with 115,000 miles for $5999.99 and the other 140,000 miles for $ 4950.00. What should I look for the most? Thanks
Those sound like great prices. I will say I saw a few when I was car shopping around that price and they were much worse condition than the one I purchased. I paid $7999. I do live in CT, and it was a year ago when car prices were at their height. I believe they may have come down a little and region definitely comes into play so I won't say they will be poor quality too, but just something to be mindful of. The interior wasn't as clean and small things everywhere were worn and half broken. That didn't bother me too much, but when I drove them they didn't seem to shift as smooth...didn't start up that clean, just felt really used. This car I purchased feels like it's a new car someone built to look 15 years old. I say that to just be mindful a little more money up front might not be the worse thing if it gets you much better quality. More money doesn't always mean better. But I know sometimes when car shopping it can feel like you have to make the deal. Just know these cars turn up all the time, and if you have the cash to buy your in a good position so be sure you get a fabulous used car even if it takes a little time to find it.. that's what I did and the car is amazing and I couldn't be happier.**SK**
Just check for rust, look for a decent service history. If it's decently cared for on thr inside its usually a sign it wasn't abused. Otherwise you can't go wrong. I have seen some that are just beat down. Spend the extra $1000 if you need to for a sound example if need be and you won't be disappointed or let down by the reliability and comfort. Thanks for watching, be sure to Subscribe. I may actually sell mine only due to having 3 suvs now and planning to get a sports car. But it may be going to family so I'll be happy to see it now and again. I'll be sure to do a departing video and stuff if I do.
Subscription ready, the truck I want to grab looks well maintained but it already has 300k on the odometer it does not mark if it is miles or kilometers and is identical to that of the video, same color. Would you recommend her?
@adrianmartinezmartinez520 Both are okay, depending on the price. Of course at that many, the different in one to the other is significant so I would ask to see any service documentation which should be recorded in the metric itself is recording in just so you know. Idk what region you are buying this but up here one with 200K miles is $5 to $7K USD for a well maintained one, and 300K I personally wouldn't pay maybe more than $3K for, though I don't see them being sold with that mileage I know PLENTY of people comment how they are around that number on theirs, and the way mine drives at 190K now, I would certainly believe it.
Yea by never fully retracting the sunroof loo 😅. I'm too lazy or too busy..probably a bit of both, but maybe one day I will revisit the issue. It's like the last 5% to roll it back so it really doesn't interfere with me using it so it just kind of out of sight out of mind type of deal.**SK**
I just spent $4,100 on my $4,200 Highlander Limited. I got it with 200,000 miles. I’m at 367,000 miles now, and this is the first thing I’ve done to it other than tires and brakes. I had to replace the electric engine fans, A/C condenser, vacuum hoses, and catalytic converter. (And some little shit.) The engine runs perfectly. I’ll never replace the timing belt or water pump unless 1) the belt breaks, or 2) the pump leaks. It’s not an interference engine, so why not get all of the life out of it?
It sounds like your wife's key wasn't cut properly. I drive a 2017 Grand Cherokee. I have 2 fobs. The fobs have removable physical keys. One is a replacement from an auto locksmith that came to my home to reprogram. But the physical key needed to be cut. I did that separately at Ace Hardware. That key opens the car door but won't lock or unlock the glove box. After a close examination of both keys, there is a slight difference. So that may be your issues as well.
She actually took that car today so I could do emissions on her newer highlander and we just swapped keys so that she would have no issues. My aftermarket remote start won't unlock now so I just use the key to get in. Or have to shut it off remotely and use the oem fob to then unlock the car lol. Couple quarks I have going on that for sure.
Hi, unfortunately no. I have no plans to ever get rid of this car. I appreciate the offer though! And thanks for watching, be sure to Subscribe! **SK**
Your picky points are ridiculous. I have the same car and the picky point I have is the 3 spark plugs in the back of the engine. You have to take out the fuel injection and manifold to get to them. A $500 job. and the transmission won’t go into first until dead stop, making it jerk into first when stepping on the gas. Other than that, the car is perfect.
2002 (22 years) Higlander 2wd 27OK miles + original engine/ tranmission. Drove in blizzard in Buffalo and it held grip . Lot of your gripes are picking over a early 2000s design. Wasnt meant to be a Lexus. Toyota didnt want to put under engine covers, rear usb outlets, vanity mirror not lightinh till its pulled over all the way (cmon dude), etc on an early 2000s daily driver. Apples to Apples ...buy a Lexus and then nit picking over that makes sense
We just at 190K now. Feels like she has another 100K no problem. And I get it. I think it's a good sign that the things I could even find to gripe about were so petty. I think my only significant issue is the driving position for anyone over like 5' 8", even in ourn2015 we got and recently sold it wasn't much better, and with so much room behind, the extra inch or two for the drives would mean another level of comfort for bigger people. Happy to hear yours is holding up well and that's for the feedback. Be sure to Subscribe!
Hey what’s going on I got a 2005 Toyota Highlander and absolutely love this car. Thank you for leaving your reviews. I pretty much agree with all of your statements good and bad. I must say this card does run excellent and does feel like a luxury car I got mine for $3000, and feel like it is worth three times that amount
Wow, only $3K, especially in this market it pretty much is worth 3x that, at least retail in some places. It is hard to get an older used car with this many features and assured reliability. We now have a 2015 Highlander Limited & a Lexus LX 570, and as great as they both are I love to drive the 05 just as much, to me it's just so coo, simple & yet very comfortable. I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I am sure I will do a long-term ownership review soon, along with a review on the other two cars, so stay tuned and be sure to Subscribe! **SK**
For how much new cars costs these days I will take it. Our new car costs more in taxes a year than what I've spent total on maintenance since ownership. I have no car payment, so I anticipate like $700 maintenance a year, which is fine. Some years none, some years some. The problem is when the car has to always be at the shop, then it's a real money pit. At least once I spend that, I will be back to a rock solid vehicle. That's why I won't get rid of it. We can always have a vehicle to dump miles on and have little worry of being left stranded. But I think your point is valid for those who may have a tighter budget. Could be worth considering. Thanka for the comments. Be sure to Subscribe! **SK**
I thought so for a second by it would make sense that it couldn't open the fuel lock, or glove box, but not being able to open the door. I think maybe the key got worn down in a way the door can't except it since it's still in a newer state (from barely being used as everyone uses the remote) versus the ignition which is always used and probably worn down the same. That's my best guess but definitely weird.**SK**
There is bound to be a lemon put there, sorry to hear that. Especially since it is not the norm. I have done brakes since then, and going to do tires soon, but otherwise no issues or big costs. Thanks for watching & thr feedback. Be sure to Subscribe! I will have a few more car reviews coming soon.
Agreed almost any can...but with its size and 4WD it def. handles the load much better than say a 4 DR car or front wheel drive SUV. But yea not unique I do give you that.**SK**
My limited 07 hybrid has the outside temperature 🌡, on dash, I think they all have it besides the Basic model ,now yours I'd still buy aswell but yeah basically the same just limited simply more luxury looking interior and led brake lights really the only major difference between yours fyi, maybe some other little extras added but nothing else
Toyota Highlander will never let you down.
The best car you can ever own.
Just brought a 2004 Awd 2weeks ago . 160k on dash she drives super smooth
Drove my dads 06 while my car was in the shop - liked it so much I went out and found an 02 with 148K miles over the weekend!
@@Mindamasta did u pull t he trigger? if so hows she rollin? im looking at an 04 with 160k for 7k
They recommend me a 2005 I'm about to buy it
Bought my 2007 Highlander with 160k a few years ago. Now in 2024 has 390k, all maintenance done by me. Gets 22 mpg, city. During the summer will be driving almost 4000 cross-country vacation with a twin size built bed, mini fridge plus other comforts. Have every intention to keep it 'till 500k😊
May the Yota force be with you.
That is awesome to hear. Enjoy your trip, I'm on my way to 200K, can't imagine hitting those numbers
**SK**
You want to sell?
Hello! That is called a maintenance key. It's for when you leave it at a shop, the mechanic can turn on the car but cant unlock the glove box in case you're keeping personal stuff in there.
Some people said vallet, but that didn't seem applicable, but I can understand that, really interesting. I never had another car like that before.
Just bought an 04 V6 with only 86,000 miles on it. My wife’s pretty happy with it, and the best part is no car payment. 🤙🏻
👍🏻 best of luck on finding another Highlander or Tundra!
can i ask what you paid and what general region of the country? looking at a few in kansas
@@crux321 I technically didn’t pay anything since we traded in another vehicle for it. Value was around $8000 but this was in Northern California.
@@crux321 Mine was purchased in CT for $8K.**SK**
They actually have the temperature reading on the limited trim
Yes, the sunroof works automatically and perfectly on mine.
The A/C knob has an issue. It gets loose and when it does, it screws up the connection. It basically needs to be taken apart and be re-soldered to the circuit board. You have to be very careful, though, because the ABS plastic is brittle and can easily break. Don't ask me know I know this.
I wouldn't doubt that's the issue. I will keep that in mind if I ever dare to remedy the problem.**SK**
Hey , I just bought a 05 (even thou I knew already)& Not sure if someone replied to the KEYS question….
One set is for
Parking Attendant…
It protects the Glove Box from being opened
Something must have happen to mine then because that is a very reasonable feat. But for me, now one won't open any door, but will start the engine. Completely baffling to me.**SK**
I just bought a 2007 and love it! No one can complete with Toyota!
We are planning to get a bigger car. Believe me, the lease is getting traded in not this beauty. Can't beat em'.**SK**
Love it.
Oh man, that's awesome. Especially keeping up with heat like that. I would say money very well spent!**SK**
Got me an 07 freaking love it
My mom drives one of those and it has been great for about a year now nothing major happened it's a 2007 Highlander with the 3.3 L V6 which has been great no major issues in the powertrain except for that transmission issue you did talk about when you're not going too fast it will feel jumpy and I have felt that like when you're coming off a stop sign you will feel that or when you're backing out of your driveway it will feel it and it feels weird I thought that it was the transmission wearing out but turns out I was wrong anyways the exterior of the car is in phenomenal shape and the interior is the Great the seats aren't worn out seriously worn-out the radio still works the AC still blows cold and so far everything's been great no major issues for 185k I love Toyota's I love Honda's I hope to get either a RAV4 or a Lexus ES as my first car
Go for es330 very reliable
What did you get
Under the temp control nob is a bolt. It may have come loose and is causing the hot air when the ac is on.
This also applies to closing-
I just picked up an '06. Love it so far
Still love ours. Since we got a 2015 Highlander Limited and 2015 Lexus LX 570 and.....I STILL LOVE THIS CAR! It's just so classic, rugged, comfortable and reliable.
How did it break?
I haven’t noticed the crunch noise with the sunroof but I’m also annoyed with having to time the closing of the sunroof but beside that I love the thing
Yeah my wife hates not knowing if the sunroof closed. Other than that she loves the car so much, as do I.**SK**
Good review. My wife loves her 05 Highlander.
I'm getting new brakes done today. Other than that she runs excellent. Hasn't needed any real work.**SK**
SK Lifestyle:
Thanks for the informative video on the Toyota Highlander.
**SK**
How much you purchased this vehicle for ?
$8K...a little high since it was during the shortage in the pandemic. But I still feel well worth it..and I wasn't in a position to wait a year for car prices to come down. Idk how the market is looking now on car prices, I'd imagine it's come down a little. Thanks for watching!**SK**
I'm looking at 2 Highlanders right now, '05 & '07 at a dealer, 106k-146k miles, both going for $7,998.
Great job in telling the details. Makes me reconsider buying an older Highlander
Thank you! I have a few videos on this Highlander, be sure to Subscribe and check them out! I am in the works of doing a 5 things I love video too. I also just put out a 5 things I hate video. Still a great car, i dont see me ever giving it up, even when I get another car. **SK**
I'm pretty sure you said it in the video.....but how is the gas mileage ? Gas is $5 a gallon here in CA.....its a problem.
The reason that one key doesn’t unlock the doors is because it’s a valet key. I have a 2011 Toyota Sienna and it has the same thing.
Towing capacity? I thought it was 3500# on the V6 Highlander. Thanks for the video!
I believe it is 2000 lbs, I think the generation after bumped up to 3500.**SK**
The a/c cycles. All cars do. Did you not read the owners manual? That is a valet key.

I'm looking at a 06 with only 58k on it. The odometer light is too dim, or is it me ???
Maybe just the camera view. It's not bad looking at it in person. 58K is awesome, you can drive that for a lifetime. I'm closing in on putting 50K on mine since I picked it up. Thing drives exactly the same. It's such a comfy workhorse. I would highly suggest to buy it as long as it is in good condition, not too much rust underneath. Best of luck on the search and thanks for watching. Be sure to Subscribe!
My first only gripe is that the odometer reading is too dim during the daytime driving.
@chrispellicci6587 I was driving yesterday and I know what you mean, especially in the day time it is kind of dull. You can read it but it's not that great.
Replace your tailgate lift supports and your good to go 👍🏼👍🏼
Yea I will have to get around to that soon.
BIG THANKS, bruh. I APPRECIATE the video.

Im bout to check out an 05 with 200k miles on.
Good review - Thanks!
Appreciate you watching & the kind words.**SK**
**SK**
Hey man the shocks for the lift gate are easily replaced if worn out. Even with no mechanical experience. They’re only about ~$40 bucks for both.
Yeah I think I'll eventually have to take that route. Little bit of laziness and being cheap keeping me from doing anything lol. But if it gets any worse I will definitely do that.**SK**
i hate my 05 original rims, what are you using on yours? looks much better. thnx
NO car payment since being paid off early,( I had put a large down payment)
* pro tip: invest the money in the stock market that you would have spent on buying a new car every few years!
Thanks, I just hit 160K with mine. Yeah I am all for investing in the market. Takes discipline, you're right, but a great way to build wealth.**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle How do you know what to invest in? How to start, clueless when it comes to this.
Silicons Spraying the rear door struts will help that door lift.
Extremely nice ,and very appreciative of these vehicles !😀🤗
I am owing one also, 90K+ mileage. Unlike other SUVs, this unit-body car has a good rust-proof coating. As long as you wash the undercarriage regularly and re-paint the rust spots, the body frame will stay forever.
Yeah I will probably wash it more in the winter than the summer 😄.**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle Definitely, try spray paint the fluid film product and also spray paint the rust proof paint before and after winter.
@tcc9826 are there any videos on this?.
Great review, thank!
I think I just feel in love with your channel!! lol and subscribed. Great content!
Thanks!! I really appreciate that feedback. I hope to make this year full of some really great content and take the channel to the next level.
@@SKLIFEstyle hellll yeah bro lol
They recommend me a 2005 I'm about to buy it
Just check for rust, look for a decent service history.
Did you ever get the soda can out of your sunroof?
Yea by never fully retracting the sunroof loo 😅. I'm too lazy or too busy..probably a bit of both, but maybe one day I will revisit the issue. It's like the last 5% to roll it back so it really doesn't interfere with me using it so it just kind of out of sight out of mind type of deal.**SK**
Thanks
They probably changed the ignition of the car with a different key
Hello my name Christian please I need Toyota Highlander 2007 can I buy from you.
Hi, unfortunately no. I have no plans to ever get rid of this car. I appreciate the offer though! And thanks for watching, be sure to Subscribe! **SK**
You have to reprogram the sunroof
I read or heard that. After a new Battery install or something like that. I doubt I will, maybe in the Spring if I get bored and curious lol.**SK**
@@SKLIFEstyle how many miles did you buy yours with? I’m looking at one that looks exactly just like yours with a rebuilt title
@@oluwatobiamona9585 I bought mine with 144K.
Great review!
Thanks, I am sure to have more updates & videos to come, be sure to Subscribe!
Great video
our 06 Highlander Limited 3.3 has 347K, its our daily driver. I hate it, it wont stop running!!!!!!!
Lol! "I hate it" ... I hear that. We may finally nick that 200K mark by middle of next year. Awesome to see so many real world examples of longevity.
V6 can pull up to 3500lb
Have an 04 3.3 I have the same problems. No biggies.
05 Highlander can tow 2,000 lbs
FK LIFESTYLE send ne that car and get a second Generation model😂
I appreciate the design but it does remind me of a Puffed up Forrester
**SK**
it's rated 2,000 lbs , but better to stay at half that ,
Alloy rim
wait till you need a drive shaft , $1,300 or O2 sensors , $1,500 ...LOL or timing belt , or oil pump, then let me know what you think..
**SK**
Sounds like Stealership prices.. not a local shop.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Valet key.
Someone replaced the seat belt ,put it backwards lol
😊
my toyota has cost more than.all my cars ever!
What car can't tow a jet ski lmao
Agreed almost any can...but with its size and 4WD it def. handles the load much better than say a 4 DR car or front wheel drive SUV. But yea not unique I do give you that.**SK**
My limited 07 hybrid has the outside temperature 🌡, on dash, I think they all have it besides the Basic model ,now yours I'd still buy aswell but yeah basically the same just limited simply more luxury looking interior and led brake lights really the only major difference between yours fyi, maybe some other little extras added but nothing else
