As someone who lives alone in a one-bedroom with a small kitchen, I love how convenient Alison's recipes are, since she has a similar sized kitchen. Congratulations on your move, but I hope you continue to keep your recipes simple and small-kitchen-friendly, which is one the main selling points of your recipes.
TS is re-recording all her songs as “Taylor’s version” so she owns it. So I think Allison means she’s recording shallot pasta as her own video not the NYT video.
Moving apartments can definitely leave you feeling wrecked. It's not just the walls and the floors and the decorations, it's that they demarcate times of your life that likely contain a potent mix of emotions, which all come back when you are saying goodbye. Hello emotions! Congrats to you Alison for weathering the storm and still making this last beautiful farewell video! I will miss this apartment but am excited to see the new one : )
There’s something so endearing, captivating, authentic, and entertaining about the way you talk/teach. Love having your videos in the background while I’m cooking!
I really appreciate how doable your recipes are for the average person. Like my kitchen is probably even smaller than yours (though an upgrade from my first efficiency, which didn’t have a kitchen so it was just me in a 100sqft bedroom with a sink, mini-fridge, toaster oven on the floor w/a single burner hot plate on top of that), and I think it’s the most realistic way to develop recipes that normal people can make. Like most of us don’t have super elaborate commercial kitchens to work with and I appreciate that I can always make your recipes :)
Agree!! That’s one thing that was hard about Bon appetit even though I loved their content and recipes, they often involved crazy utensils that I do not have, or they involved lots of moving pieces that you needed different worktops for which the average person doesn’t have. I think that’s why alisons videos appeal to the average person, aside from her humour and fun personality, her recipes truly are simple, healthy and delicious ❤️
So happy that you get to move to another apartment (and get a freezer that shuts and a dishwasher)! I will miss seeing your cute sunny little kitchen, but I'm still so happy you are getting an upgrade. You deserve it ❤
Also like the fact that she is moving from this apartment and she is NOT telling us what is inside that small, tall closet is amazing to me i know that’s where you keep all of your ex boyfriends just admit it now Alison haha!
I have made this shallot pasta SO, SO MANY TIMES last year and of course this year you have no idea! It has been one menu or dish that has been saving me during lockdown especially. Thank you, you have made me, a person who used to hate shallots, eating shallot pasta literally to a point every single day for almost one month during lockdown. And yes i do wear contacts lenses and yes i purposely ONLY peel those shallots whenever i’m wearing my contacts lolol.
When I ask myself what I’m cooking for, I like to think it’s for justice. I can’t think of one single person that deserves an upgrade more than this one. Talk about making it work. Interesting to see what she’ll be able to pull off in the new space.
Not only is Alison’s food amazing (LOVE her obsession with anchovies), she is laugh out loud hilarious. I find myself cracking up every time I watch a video. She does a great job of explaining everything she does in a way that anyone can understand. I just love these videos.
Someone recommended this in the previous video and it worked, so, here's for the people who re seeing this for the first time; you can make this vegan/vegetarian by replacing anchovies with miso paste
Thank you for this suggestion! I was trying to think of a good substitution, even though she said just leave it out it might feel like something is missing. 😊👍
Awww, I relate so much to this kitchen. I live in a studio apartment with a tiny efficiency oven, no dish washer, and a fridge form 1983. I guess, I too, am a tiny little grape. Go forth and thrive Grape Sis!!!
This was THE dish that made me love anchovies. I’m serious. Also, cooking this with you helped me feel less lonely during quarantine and I want to genuinely thank you for both helping me stay sane during a very difficult time in my life and expanding my umami repertoire ❤
Tuesday were my off day usually. So your videos are literally special to me. I love cooking, especially your recipes❣️ Thank you for give me that joyfull moments where I could spend my days without worrying other milion things.
End of an era but a start of a new one. Who knew you were gonna be a 100k youtube channel when I first watched your shallot pasta video last year or so. Congrats, you deserve it!!!
I'm the cook for our family of four and this has been my go-to meal for the whole pandemic. We all thank you so much (but especially me because it's so simple and delicious and doesn't make a ton of dishes to wash).
Oh Alison, I love this pasta and have made it so many times! Thanks for bringing it back out. I could watch you cook any of your dishes over and over. The Stew 2019…sigh, don’t even get me started, my fave.
It’s so true that everyone that’s watching these feels like your our friend 😅 even tho I live in ireland I’m hoping I’ll bump into you next time I visit New York! There’s such comfort and fun in watching your videos and cooking your food from a news letter or nothing fancy (best cook book ever?!) Youve taught me so much, but most importantly - slap on them gold hoops and you’re good to go 😂❤️
This one of my favorite recipes that I have gotten off of RUclips. So easy to make and turns around quick meals. It is a god send for me in the summer when my whole kitchen is an oven so I spend minimal time at the stove.
i make this recipe with my sister whenever she comes home from college. even my parents who don't really like pasta eat it. thank you for adding this amazing recipe to our lives!
Since the start of the pandemic, cooking has become something I've really become invested in and enjoy, and I think it's no exaggeration to trace the start of it to making this shallot pasta last spring. It was one of the first things I made that really felt magical, for lack of a better term - a real dish that was more than the sum of its parts. It felt like alchemy, is maybe the better term for it, and it still impresses and surprises people when they find out that it's mostly shallots, anchovies and tomato paste. I've since made many more of Alison's recipes and bought Nothing Fancy and also cooked tons of stuff on the smoker I bought and being on this journey of learning and making good food has been truly rewarding both for me and my family over what's been an often rough 15 months. So thanks. I will keep watching.
This really really made me want to cook. You have a way with words! Thanks for the inspiration, I can't wait to move into my own place and enjoy the majic of shallot pasta 🍝
I just made this pasta again last week. It is one of my all time favorite dishes. Thank you thank you thank you. And I can totally relate to the mixed feelings about moving. Wishing you well in your new place.
Thank you for all the great recipes! I had an apartment so similar to this in the 70s with the kitchen set up almost exactly like yours, but without the island. I had a 1950s refrigerator that I had to thaw out regularly. I will miss your little apartment as it was so you! I hope the next place will be just as charming. Can’t wait to see your next video! Good luck!
Hey friend!! I remember watching the Thanksgiving video maybe 3 years ago and was hooked. Because of you Alison, I throw tasty meals together without worry. I could always cook great meals, but now I take them to another level (who would've thought I'd cook with wine 🍷) yeah I know people have been cooking with wine for ages, but you made it approachable for me. Thank you for being a cooking inspiration and for keeping it simple 🙌 good luck with the move, hope to see more videos in the future!
Loved this, and, having left a similarly special studio in Jackson Heights last year, I totally get TERROIR - there is an essence, a life, a history everywhere. Even in the dust. Even in what you hated. So onward! Best to you. x
That ending was absolute gold and I laughed out loud. We will miss your apartment, too!! We are your friends. Can’t wait to see what the next place brings!
This recipe is everything, I think I've made it 100 times (and will make it a million more). I've played around with varying quantities of capers, miso, and Marmite as vegan subs for the anchovies, all work well. And I'm living for the Taylor reference - they've got your past frozen behind glass, but you've got you!
Hey Alison, I only started following you during thanksgiving. I used your mashed potato and gratin recipe. delicious. then I did your Latkes. And now I just finished this shallot pasta.. and I'm sitting here in awe. It's freaking good. You're my new go to for recipes. Thanks and I can't wait for more!
This is so crazy good and so easy to make. Truly can not stop thinking about it. Thank you from one of your friends. Have to run out and buy hoop earrings now (who knew? ;-).
Small Kitchen, Big Thanksgiving was my first Alison Roman video on YT. You inspired me to better appreciate my condo kitchen. Thank you Alison and your kitchen, you inspired and encouraged me. Lockdown in Toronto, Canada + Alison + condo kitchen made for a great 2020-2021.
I’m watching and I’m a friend!! I’m already feeling nostalgic about this place while listening to Folklore on repeat. I’m sad we didn’t get an apartment or kitchen tour before the move. I’m going to miss it so much 🥺
ALISON I CRIED TOO. Your little apartment that you’ve out grown helped you grow. Thanks for making these. Thanks for being you and making everything LITERALLY EVERYTHING your version. It’s what I do. I love to do my versions. It’s the only way. And I am your friend. Leafy. Spriggy. Coarse. For ever.
Jumped on the bandwagon a bit late, but this pasta is oh so worth chopping a mountain of shallots for. Made it a bit fancy by using a can of the precious Spanish anchovies I bought while on holiday. Takes me right back 😊 thanks Alison for this delicious and simple recipe!
I have really enjoyed watching you cook in your small apartment. It has related to me so much as I also live in a small apartment, I can’t wait to see your new place and what delicious food will cook for us. Totally has to be a party favourite.
I need that sweater for a Father’s Day gift for my husband! We are obsessed with you and your cooking in our household (even my 5 year old)- what could be more fitting!! sell them ☺️😌
I still come back and watch this, although the programme has obviously moved on. I love this little kitchen and all the happy times implied in the videos made there. The friends and family who've gathered there, the challenges of squeezing them in, relationships that came and went and those that stuck, the jokes and ribbing and laughs, the culinary feasts, the flops and tough days, and getting the freezer to shut when not another stick of butter would fit -- but somehow it did. It's authentic, charming, unique. Just like Alison.
omg, I actually loved that kitchen and all the challenges you face living there. I absolutely agree about the charm of living in the old apartment, but hey, happy for you. Love you and all what you do
I make this weekly. It's the BEST!! I follow the recipe as written and never go wrong. I save the other half for the following week. My grandson makes it also, but he uses the ENTIRE recipe on a lb. of pasta. Plus, I do add a sprinkle of parmesan!! DELISH!!

Would definitely buy Shallot Pasta University merch.
I about died when the video cut off right before you were going to show us what's in your closet!!! THE TEASE
AAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!! I have to know what is in there!!
It was akin to the end of the series finale of the Sopranos. I thought my internet died.
I WAS HOLDING MY BREATH!!!🤣
I know right! So rude 😂
the cliffhanger for season 2 of Home Movies
This is the best video ever? Raise your hands if you cried along with Alison. Ps: the Taylor swift bit is everything
can you explain the Taylor bit? did she cook the shallot pasta and talked about it or what happened?
TS is re-recording all her songs as “Taylor’s version” so she owns it. So I think Allison means she’s recording shallot pasta as her own video not the NYT video.

I (as a vegetarian) when I make this i use very finely chopped kalamata olives instead of anchovies and i looove it
Thanks for this, great idea x
Oooh this is a great idea! I use umeboshi paste, which is also very yummy :)
Seeing Alison feed her friends Thanksgiving and Passover meals from this tiny kitchen taught me that I can also do anything
