That song is a journey. When he forst sings about new ground, underneath his feet he is vulnerable and soft. Kind of like a youth uncertain of their position. Each time he sings it after, he sings it in a more strong and confident tone. Like he is turning from a boy to a man. The song is a journey and he grows with it.

The gentleman playing the Kobyz is master Olzhas Qurmanbeck, the best player in Kazakhstan 🎻🔝 The Kobyz is the first stringed instrument ever. Kobyz is an ancient tool of the Kazakh people. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝

Thanks so much for that reaction and appreciating also the masterful play of Olzhas Qurmanbek on his Kobyz. About Dimash, what can I say?! I experienced him live on stage twice. Even when I know Dimash's vocals for a number of years now, he still takes my breath away and in his concerts I stand in awe, completely stunned and can't believe what I witness. This young man is really one of a kind! The emotional rollercoaster is unbelievable . A concert of Dimash is a treat, a precious treasure. I got addicted!

I did go through a very heavy copyright process with this one… further than I would usually go. Still not fully resolved so we’ll see if it works out.
He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that.
The kobyz is a very old Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable.
Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range (no kidding), like Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You'll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It's more of a father-son relationship.
Please react to another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for him at Dimash's request, Ave Maria. He performed this song on the same show as Stranger. If you know any of the many versions of this song, this is not the same. But definitely a must if you want to hear an angel sing.

At the piano Igor Krutoy (Krutoy means 'Cool', *1954 in Ukraine SSR). He lives and works in Moscow/ Russia. He is singer, a world- famous composer and music titan in Russia (billionaire). His family is in the US now. Krutoy came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. The maestro and Dimash have been working together from time to time since 2018. They are friends and have a father-son relationship.
Dimash said also in an interview about the collaboration with Igor Krutoy that it is important to him that the songs are written in such a way that there is room for variations ... so every performance of a song is a surprise and every Dear can choose his favorite presentation... I can not decide.
The lyrics were written by Mary Sharon Vaughn (*1947, American musician, songwriter and producer. She writes hits for famous singers around the world, including Lara Fabian)

This bowl-neck lute played with a bow is is an old Turkic stringed instrument and called Kobys, Qobyz or Kylkobyz in Kazakhstan. The Kyrgyz variant, for example, is called the kyl-kyyak.
The Kobys is the oldest string instrument in the world and, according to a German scientist, it spread beyond the borders of the nomadic area of Central Asia and became the mother (prototype) of all European string instruments.

The old outlook and piety towards their instruments and music was constantly preserved in traditional Kazakh society and ensured the highest spiritual level of musical art and a special respectful attitude towards musical instruments. Dimash actually did the closing soundtrack for the Italian movie Creators: The Past. The song is "Across Endless Dimensions". It has clips from the movie, and as usual, Dimash will blow your mind...

@@canolli2944 He's too good for the Grammies. They've lost all respect in the last few decades. Dimash has his American fan clubs as well. But the west has some growing up to do. The people will come. But, we don't want Dimash to have to lower himself to the commercial realm ...rather the west rise to him. He has shown a willingness to provide some more commercially viable works...and it's been good. But he can't stay there and be MJ or some heavy metal icon ala Robert Plant or Dickerson. But he can give us some and the people will able to appreciate too a beautiful melody or serious piece. All music can affect us and makes us grow. Quality matters. Connection and our common humanity.

I don’t know where you are from but the facts are this….if you become famous HERE, you are famous all over the globe. I believe the Qobyz isn’t just ancient, but the 1st original stringed instrument inspiring the rest. If you want to see other performances of his with Qobyz, you’ll love his *music video for Qairan Elim-* he codirected it (his 1st time), made it during the lockdown pandemic days, inspired in part by losing a couple important mentors. It’s a beautiful video & song, & the Qobyz plays an important part. Also you’ll love *Samaltau- I recommend the Tokyo Jazz Festival version-* also during quarantine & Dimash with 2 musicians performs from his modest home studio. This one you really get to experience what magic the Qobyz can be.
