I had a player quit my game because it was too violent :[ . I also wouldn't let him netrun because it requires cyberware and he refused to get any sort of implants.
It bummed me out ,but I'm not gonna break the game for 1 player.

    • @ProphetofTruth1
      @ProphetofTruth1 3 года назад +18

You don't have to get cyberware to netrun, you can use an external kit to be able to hack, albeit it's much harder for the netrunner to netrun without cybernetics than it is for a netrunner with cybernetics. As for the first part of your comment; its Nightcity, majority of times it's to be violent, gritty, and majority of times dark in a corporate world that we want to burn.

@@ProphetofTruth1 I mean, i would have done it that way but wanted to stick to the CPR rules. On 196 it says "All netrunners have a least a little cyberware. To even use a cyberdeck you need interface plugs which also requires a neural link"

That's only if you decide not to use a cyber deck. Otherwise a cyber deck can connect to an access point without Cyberware

Pretty solid. You hit it right on the head. However, I do notice that you didn't cover the whole scope of new tech that can make healing even quicker. Medtechs, in addition to speedheal, can also create an antibiotic serum that lets someone heal 2 extra hit points each day for a week. Furthermore, medtechs can get access to cryotanks, which double the rate of healing across the board while in stasis. There is also enhanced antibodies cyberware, which makes you heal for 2x your body stat instead of 1x for each day you spend resting and stable.
What this means is that even the most frail person (2 body) can potentially end up healing 12 hit points per day. 4 for enhanced antibodies plus 2 for the serum, and then doubled.
In contrast, a person with 12 body from a linear frame could potentially heal 52 hit points per day, since (24+2)*2=52.
Combine the above with a dose of speedheal, and unless you have a Will stat significantly higher than your body or are unusually frail, you can be fully healed from death's door in 24 hours of stabilization, which is frankly bonkers.
The cool part is that the lore in the book also mentions this, and states that technology has advanced to the point where almost everything is handled as an outpatient procedure.

100% yes to not just doing dice rolls. I like doing that with Fixers...yes you can source something, but that isn't as simple as just saying what you want, marking off eb, and adding to your inventory. Maybe that thing the Fixer found is being sold by a Maelstrom gang...now you need to get to them (safely) and work out a deal for that Sigma Frame you want.

Excellent Video! Sharing this with my players that are MEDTECHS and the group in general.
One of the things I'm going to allow is using Speed Heal more than once a day... but that it'll have a lessened effectiveness & incur reduced reflexes as their body is rapidly knitting/healing back together & the character may develop a resistance to it (that'll return to normal the longer they go without using Speed Heal). I want them to have that option of whether to push it or not.
Gotta play catch-up with the other vids here!

I decided to high-tech the problem. My game is set in 2044 so I felt okay adding 3D muscle and bone printing.
PETA and the Vegan mafia developed 3D printed meat substitutes called *New Meat. This tech was stolen by the street docs and used to reprint bullet-damaged muscle tissue. Later reprinting shattered bone became a thing.
It's painful, takes time (printing speed), and costs a butt load.
Street docs with old armored UPS vans roaming combat zones like ice cream trucks. Shot up booster gangers chasing after them like kids with a dollar.

I just started GMing CBR recently. I understand the theme of this game, but the healing system is a little wonk. This rule is only there to justify the existence of the Med Tech role, but it still doesn't jive with me. The idea that only a medical professional could administer pharmaceuticals, in an age of advanced technology is silly. I think it's silly that through a long mission, a Crew would have stop and leave, losing all momentum on the chase, to take a trip to a clinic or hospital. I run a 2 player group in which neither of them will ever be interested in being a Med Tech. So I allow anyone (including the occasional higher level mooks too) to self-administer pre-dosed speedheal and other pharmaceuticals, through their airhypo. The only thing is that it's very expensive and not readily available. So to get a dose, they have to work for it (another reason to use all of those social skills), and have a pocket full of eddies.

I thought the same thing but it comes down to, as in real life, professionals often need to administer drugs to do it safely. I see it as you need the right amount per build, injury, placement, etc. I can see dipping in to Medtech as say, a Solo, just to have that knowledge.

Old message on an older video, I know, but the last reply isn't that old, soo... I'm gunna reply anyway lol
I agree that the healing system is a bit odd. I've heard that originally hospitals were advanced with automedics that made the healing process very futuristic but all of that has kind of been swept under the rug for something more realistic. Since I only run with 1-3 players on average, I usually let them get off with a visit to their ripper for an automedic to patch them up & a day's rest, unless it's something more serious.
Also, I did something similar by letting non-med techs heal up with a homebrew drug called "StreetHeal." I gave it the fluff that it uses 'Dorph as a base, so there's a risk to it for a bit of balance. It's not permanent like real 'Dorph, but it's just to make them second guess using it when in the heat of things.

@@dontevenworryaboutit4912 Good idea. However, I just stuck with the ability for anyone to use a pre-dose Speedheal. It's simple, convenient, and not game-breaking whatsoever. It just makes Med Techs a little less relevant. And since no one in my group plays a Med Tech, there is no downside. And as I mentioned before, they're not easy to come by, so they are used sparingly, and there's already been plenty of "interesting" scenarios just obtaining some. Thanks for your input. Cheers!

i actually really like another game's answer to this by splitting the Health bar in half.
the first half of the health bar is stamina. it's your ability to dodge damage from near misses, deflect attacks, ect. it is easy to heal, because just taking a breather is usually enough.
the second half is your "getting bloody" health bar. very hard to heal. you are exhausted from dodging and deflecting so many near misses, you just can't move as fast as you did before.
different types of damage effect each healthbar directly. such as an attack that does 1d6+2d6 Poison. the poison damage can't hit the stamina bar because the weapon never actually injured the target. or an attack that is impossible to dodge/deflect wouldn't hit the stamina at all.
really get creative with how each attack can effect both health bars, and don't forget to let your players in on the fun as well. a sleep grenade that does poison damage to the stamina bar and if the stamina bar runs out, the target falls asleep?

i house rule speed heals a little if the group has no med tech that they get their Body OR Will, whichever is higher. it still uses their one speed heal per day but the med teck is significantly better at it. but i run a little more rule of cool pulp style than the hard edge edgeruners that you could do.

Thanks for the video! As first time GM this is something that has been on my mind recently. So your two options to heal each day are either to rest up (while stabilized) or take a speed heal? Can both be used in the same day?

What I think feels a bit convoluted is that there is a modifier table entry for not having the correct tools. (-2)
I feel like this should apply to stabilisation if you're not using a medtech bag (100eb), shouldn't it?
All the PCs in our campaign have First Aid as their only Tech skill :D
