Don't you just LOVE auto-generated text. When Eddie said "You've been Knighted?" Captions said : "You've been IGNITED" !!! I'm sure Peter would have appreciated that. He's such a brilliant mimic amongst so many other skills. Not to mention a brilliant mind. I think he'd been asked many times why he didn't go into politics and I'm sure he responded diplomatically - mostly - but from these anecdotes it's clear he was wise enough to skirt around such cesspits. What an insight into the character of those he describes. I've always thought if he hadn't chosen this career path he would have made an excellent Psychologist or some other form of 'Shrink', as he has such an acute eye for every micro nuance of human communication - verbal and non-verbal. Of course he'd have had far less FUN! A Brilliant man and a sad loss to the world when he left us - but what a magnificent contribution.
Writer, raconteur, producer, director, filmmaker, winner of Oscar's, Emmy and Golden Globes. A multilinguist described as a Renaissance man. An absolute pleasure to listen to his stories. An entertainer's entertainer!
Once on a long drive someone came on the radio and I became entranced by the quality of his speech: intellectual, nuanced, profound and knowledgeable. I was astounded. I had always presumed Peter Ustinov to be nothing more than a comedic actor. That gift was not even the tip of the iceberg. No wonder he was befriended by influential people of East and West.
I kinda resented him in the commentary for "Spartacus", because it was the first time I had seen or heard of him in "affecting" the script, but I guess even the director and producer were so awestruck by the presence of these legends, that they got a lot of leeway in changing their speaking parts. But I love his voice. Very witty and funny!
Amazing. When introducing Bach, he switches to a satirical but fitting East German accent and starts talking German. Shortly afterwards, he continues to talk English with the same dialect and then (when mentioning the city where the orchestra performing it comes from - which is in West Germany), he switches to High standard German. Pure genius.
Thank you for publishing this video, what an absolute legend Peter Ustinov was! A genius. They don't make people like that anymore. Too bad the end is cut, but well, unfortunately not too many tapes or recordings survive from that era.
He must have had an absolute memory and perfect pitch. His recollections of Swedish pronounciation is better than most englishmen who lived here for decades. Brilliant man.
18:52 I find it mildly interesting that, that little bit of melody sounds just like the main theme from Jurassic Park. Maybe just shy of a year before the film's release.
First of all, this, above all doubt, cements, Sir Peter Ustinov's briliance... even in the claws of such an utterly pointless host... (im danish... so i know ALL TOO WELL who Eddie Skoller is) and despite the script-bound and completely unimaginative idiocy, Sir Ustinov is able to make this show worth while... (no thanks to the host... the utter and completely talentless "clown" of a host)
WOW! Skoller is about as far-removed from a Dick Cavett as a viable talk show interviewer, as is humanly possible! I think it's an insult to one w/the dignity & immensely-deserved stature of Mr. Ustinov to be so poorly represented as his guest! Perhaps Skoller was intimidated by Mr. Ustinov's reputation & presence...or he was just unprepared. Whichever it was, it felt quite awkward to watch.

Who on earth is having the mean-spirited ignorance to press the "don't like" button in view of this outstanding man?

Such a precious person! He has given so much to the world! ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh lord he was just a pure genius, I could listen to him for eternity
P.C. In total agreement.
I think about playing his interviews in my grave with a solar powered audio device 😉
a tad over the top ,perhaps ,but yes: me too🤗@@jean-marcknight8816
Fabulous!
How many people/ artists, go to Iceland and knock ‘em flat?
The man was an absolute Giant !
Awesome!
Thanks for posting.

Fabulous , unbelivable but definitely too short... I could listen to Sir Peter Ustinov for hours and hours - he was just ...insane
Ustinov was the greatest raconteur EVER and a superb actor
Peter was the absolute most brilliant raconteur EVER!

Too bad the end is cut, but well, unfortunately not too many tapes or recordings survive from that era.
And 5 minutes of Incomprehensible intro… poor editing at both ends. The middle is sheer genius.
I admired him more than anyone else in history.
This man was extraordinary, so talented.
What a pity we can’t keep people like Peter Ustinov around forever. They literally do not make them like that any more
One of the greatest and most talented men ever to walk this earth.
Eddie Skoller? Joking rught?
Sir Peter Ustinov one of the few who i feel is fully entitled to the title SIR.
Amazing skills! Sir Peter Ustinov was just so unique.
Ustinov was a great
What a brilliant mind - the like of which we will never see again.
He must have had an absolute memory and perfect pitch. His recollections of Swedish pronounciation is better than most englishmen who lived here for decades. Brilliant man.
Same is true for his German pronunciation. It's extraordinary.
Along with Orson Welles one of the greatest storytellers in the English language.
Mr.Ustinov always reminded me of Orson whenever I watched his interview and after some time vice versa.
I LOVE Sir PETER USTINOV soooo much !!!! A genius above all geniuses...... So funny and exceptional !!!
Possibly the greatest mind in history
@@aidanjoyce3248 Absolutely! He is simply amazing 😍
Rest in peace, Mr. Skoller 🌹
29:22 - A fantastic reply to that question.
Wasn't Sir Pete something else. Brilliant man. He could do it all.
ok fine
He was pure magic...
The best comedian ever! Love this video! 👏👏👏👏
Peter Ustinov is the greatest human being that ever lived, and nobody comes close.
he just passed away. RIP Eddie 😔
Thank you for this.
His family must miss him so much X
R.I.P 2023
Those ties of the 80's are really something.
Peter the Great comes onstage at 5:00 (if you want to skip the intro)
14:09 "It runned 4 nights which for Reyjavik is a very long run" 😂
18:52 I find it mildly interesting that, that little bit of melody sounds just like the main theme from Jurassic Park. Maybe just shy of a year before the film's release.
His wisdom so sadly missed truly a man of the future when wars are a thing of the past. I fear that future may be just too far.
He was a bloody genius.............but Eddie Skoller was brilliant too !!!!
The Magnificent Peter Ustinov
Michael Parkinson was right: Peter Ustinov is God's gift to talk show hosts.
Love Peter but never knew he actually had a very good singing voice of a wide range.
Regan was spot on
A great example of all a person should be, should learn, should behave and should love. Miss ya Pytor.
1982/3? Certainly not 1992. Thank you for sharing this video.
More certainly not 1982 than 1992
If UK had been a republic in the german style, then Ustinov would certainly have been a likely candidate...
My god, that Interviewer is so helpless and doesn't know what to say or answer at all.
Must be before Christmas 1991, since there is USSR.
Yakovlev fell out of power in July 1990.
Plus Saddam Hussein was in power.
So it's probably 1990.
He speaks of the recent German unification in his joke about the Bach piece so yes, it would likely have been in 1990
I don't think the interviewer had done any preparation for this. (My impression at least). Ustinov's Bach Cantata parody, incl. continuo, was superb.
Brian May’s long lost Swiss brother.

The host was a little wooden but well meaning
Avbruten mitt I en mening. War ar resten ?
Genius

When Reagan was young The Prince of Wales was named David.
Good Heavens! You're right - at last an explanation for the Alzheimers slip.

Ustinov arrives at 4 min 55 seconds
A brilliant man interviewed by a rather uninspiring and boring presenter.
Eddie Skoller wasted a great chance.
Oh dear .. that presenter isn't doing a great job!
I think its cool how this is a swedish show and yet the host and the audience spoke and understand english perfectly.
