I went shopping in Harrods on the first day in the UK that retail shops could open after COVID Lockdown (Monday 15th June 2020). I was taken aback at what shopping is now like and I left after just 1.5 hours. There is currently a slash 40% sale in Harrods (items that weren’t sold during the 3 months of lockdown). This includes Chanel & DIOR Sales!!! The atmosphere was rather stressful, what with the new rules about how many people can enter the store (plus, fitting rooms are closed - so you can’t try things on)

Found this so interesting, I also went to harrods and didn't enjoy it as usual! I keep worrying about keeping my distance to people and could not focus on the shopping. The food Hall got crazy so I left, people did not keep at 2 meters in there and would come up to you to look at the same food and stand sooo close to you! Hope you feel better! x

I know what you mean I went to Neiman Marcus in Northbrook , Chicago yesterday and when I got inside they asked if I have an appointment for a moment there I thought I was in the wrong place . It’s so weird .I needed to make an appointment and they assigned a associate to walk around the store with you ,thank you , but no thank you. So the experience was that I had to leave . Nice.

Hi Sophie, I do enjoy your posts here in the USA. I am an RN who loves designer handbags. As a trained RN I must tell you a few things and we ALL do this. 1. Don’t touch the escalator rail! Yuk!! 2. When you open a door pull your sleeves down over your hands if you have to pull it or push it open with your upper arm 3. I want you to watch the video and count how many times you touch your face around your mask area after you touch other things. Even as a nurse who wears a mask a lot it is hard not to touch your face. Just a few tips to keep you safe so we can continue to watch your lovely videos.

Amelie I’m not from the US. And I’m not having a go at Sophie. I’m just stating the concern I have while watching the video. Everyone around the World is fed up, not just people from Europe. Unfortunately, being fed up doesn’t warrant people of not getting COVID-19. I reckon being vigilant is a civic duty not just to yourself but to all the vulnerable people around. I’m considered to be of high risk as I have chronic bronchitis. I know everyone is going to die one day but I hope I’m not going to anytime soon. Take care and stay safe. P.S. I have two little kids hence I’m extra careful.

Shopping malls should install those UV light thingy that sanitizes the escalator handrails as it moves. Thats what malls in my country are doing and they also employed people to keep on disinfecting knobs and door rails every few minutes. Many people in my country have also taken to wearing masks and even latex gloves when they go out. Heck even the cashiers at my local grocery stores were equipped with gloves, masks and eye visors by their employers.

I don't fully understand the purpose of the mask and touching it. Presumably the mask is to keep my germs from escaping. If I've been isolating then I shouldn't really have Covid germs so what difference does it make if I touch it? I don't mean to be ignorant, it would be different if I was trying to maintain a sterile field.

Harper Isolating or not....you could be a coronavirus carrier and be asymptomatic....The disease is spread by respiratory droplets that come out of you, not only when you cough or sneeze.... but also when you breathe, talk, etc The mask helps to keep them in.....you are breathing into the mask so when you touch the inside of the mask with your hand those droplets are now on your hand and will be spread to anything your hand touches next and then when the next person touches that surface they pick it up etc. etc. This virus is very contagious and has community spread....you can get it from people who do not seem sick. You mentioned sterile, the mask is not sterile....and that is not the goal.

I found your video's a couple of months back when I was looking for a new designer bag. Ever since they've been a little me-time when I'm relaxing on the couch, sitting in the garden or even in the bath tub. I love how you venture out and honestly describe the pro's and cons of certain bags. I have bought bags new but also pre-loved. In this video you also talk about skin care products. My best friend is a dermatologist and pharmacist. He actually was a pharmacist with his own pharmacy before he realized he he was bored and wanted to do something else. He told me the only cream that really works is tretinoin cream. I use a 0,5% gel cream that I mix with regular cream in roughly a 1;2-3 ratio. I use it at night and my skin has never been better, no wrinkles no blackheads and it feels soft and smooth. There is no need to spend hunderds of dollars on this, this cream cost about $30 and it lasts me a couple of months cause you use so little of it, a pea size dot is enough. It also restores damaged skin. (in US it's sold as Retin-A). Keep safe.

@Shasha whilst not obligatory, if you choose to wear a mask you shouldn’t touch it once on, and shouldn’t pull it down below your chin. Once you touch the front of the mask, which is contaminated, your hands are then contaminated and the risk of cross contamination of anything is increased significantly. So Sophie had to use hand sanitizer when she went in the concessions, and then she’s picking up those dresses in Dior, touching her mask, then touching another garment and another surface, then some shoes etc. She is inadvertently cross contaminating all those items because of what was on her mask, then her hands.
This is not me bashing on Sophie, please understand this, it’s just a mistake lots of people make when wearing masks. Constantly touching the mask and then other things is actually more risky than not wearing a mask. There’s plenty of information about how to properly wear masks and PPE and the do’s and don’ts.
That aside, I love the Dior shoes she got!

I went shopping in Old Town Alexandria (Washington DC area) yesterday and felt like Typhoid Mary! It's an area with mostly small local specialty shops such as stationary or antiques. I am a very visual and sociable person and I found it difficult talking to the clerks while standing six feet apart wearing a mask, it made me realize just how much I depend on facial expressions to communicate. Everyone I encountered seemed so timid, there was none of that normal smiling and nodding to people on the street. Then browsing in the shops, some people wore latex gloves, I was just afraid to touch anything. It was not at all a fun, happy, leisure-shopping experience.

I'm in Ireland and our shopping experience is so different now, do you guys in the UK have any guidelines? We've been "told" only to go to the shops if you know what you need, go get it then leave, no hanging around, no cafes are open, no restaurants, no food courts, all communal seats have been removed, if you try on a shoe the assistant then has to remove it from the display for 24 hours, same with clothes - I'm assuming they will be steamed. But the mask is the biggest thing, they are not compulsory but advised, but I was cringing at the screen when Sophie kept touching it, and it was up down, up down, your fingers were on the inside of it, so you may as well have not been wearing it at all. I know it's a bit learning curve for all of us. As we've been told, we now need to learn to live with this virus, it's not going away.

They are getting on with their lives as usual, no distancing, shopping like normal, going to work, socializing because they kept to the rules, they all wear masks and sanitize. As someone who was tested POSITIVE for corona virus, when you said you had bad migraines it made me slightly worried. My only symptoms were a migraine, feeling tired, and then lost sense of smell and taste (this was before it was classified as a symptom). Please don’t leave the house if you’re feeling at all unwell. Very irresponsible, especially because you kept taking your mask off, touching your face and then touching items in the store.

Hi Sophie. Thank you for the video. Please don't touch your mask when you're wearing it. I saw you holding the handrail on the escalator also. You should only put and take off your mask by holding it from the string pieces. If the virus is on the mask and you keep touching it, it will go into your nostrils, mouth and eyes and that's where you can get sick. Please, please, please don't touch the mask and try to keep it on throughout your entire time in the store. You don't have it wear it in your car. But once you put it on when you leave your car to go in the store, then keep it on and don't take it off until you get back into your car, and then take off only from the string part and dispose of it. Please take good care of yourself. Hope you know this is coming from a good place. Sending hugs. XOXO

I think a lot of it is genuine concern. I have friends who decided to forgo masks and have gotten it and passed it on and now wish they wore them properly before. Ppl are just scared and anxious about everyone and everything. It’s quite literally a foe we can’t see. No one should be mean and empathy and understanding are what’s needed right now I agree. I would probably be safer for her to not wear a mask so much she is touching it. The point of the mask is to stop liquid droplets from your mouth that could transfer the virus. When you touch the mask the virus gets transfered to your hands and then on to things you touch and then over to other people. Totaly negates the use of the mask. The behaviour of Sophie was exactly why the health authorites around Europa didn't want to recommend mask because they feared it would actually increase the spread. Usually I would agree that Sophie is a very considerate person. In this case I would say it is the opposite. Her touching her mask all the time is very rude and inconsiderate of the situation.

A neurologist suggested one for me and it's helped immensely. If I feel a migraine coming on, I just take one, and I can go about my day as normal. Like nothing ever happened. First and foremost, I think you do a GREAT job Sophie and you have put yourself out for all of us over these last months especially. For those who were negative about your touching handrails, or your mask being down, they are free to stay home and seal themselves in hermetically. Some of the rest of us, however, are out there with a smile and cheerful talk as it is great to see smiling faces and actually interact with someone who looks human rather than looking like a bank robber. FACT: Over a million people a year die from Tuberculosis and it is spread through the air. Why have we not worn masks all these years? The C-virus has killed less than the yearly flu and is spread by touch... so WHY are we wearing masks? As you can tell, I take 'orders' with a grain of salt and being an American (I guess that's my excuse) I don't like to be fenced in (or told what I can do). SOOO... if you don't want to re-breath your CO2 (the toxins your body is trying to expel when you breath out), then skip the mask and dare to smile at the world. Leave dear, sweet Sophie alone and let her do what she wants, how she wants... and just appreciate that she is taking her time to interact with us even when she doesn't feel well. Great to see your smiling face and to see you out and about again.... thanks for all you do!

I know what you mean: when our stores in Ontario, Canada, first opened, I was torn. I love shopping, no matter what it's for, but I knew it wouldn't be close to being the same experience, as to be expected. I decided though, as superficial as it may seem to many, it's something that used to bring me joy, so when I did go shopping for the first time, I was careful, wore a mask, etc., and decided to make the best of it. I did that because the past 3 months had been difficult, stressful, sometimes depressing, so I enjoyed those few hours out of the house. It was exactly what I needed to feel energized again to go back to homeschooling my 3 kids. And I didn't feel guilty one bit. ;)

I work in lab setting, where wearing the masks for a long time while doing physical tasks (even N95) is regular thing. So I also noticed you touching your masks a lot. When all this started, I had to keep on pointing this out to my family member. It's a normal thing to not want anything on your face, but if you must touch it to readjust, try not to touch the inside of the mask. There is only so much the hand sanitizers can kill. We'll all get used to talking to others with masks on, communicating through the muffled noises and repeating ourselves a few times.
I LOVED how you reached out for David in the beginning of the video. It just shows a glimpse of how much you guys love each other, and I love how he's apologizing for his camera work lol He's such a trooper for helping you out!
