    To the comments stating this isn't a realistic form of training we want to say that they are absolutely correct. In the same way that shooting paper targets isn't a realistic way to train under the threat of an active shooter. Training is not always meant to simulate realism - in fact, most training is not based on simulation. They are based on skill development so that the skills learned can be applied to real life situations.
    Some instructors are happy to rehash the basics over and over again. We trust that you've seen them before.
    In a million years the average shooter will never face the conditions that Instructor Zero trains under. Instructor Zero conducts these drills not for your average weekend range warrior. Its for the men who think in the "worst case scenario" space.

      1st I'm not a special operator, SEAL, or whatever, just an average Joe. You practice DRILLS, nobody's going to be forced to stick their hands in ice & then fight. I've been in a slight survival situation and was extremely cold, I could barely start a fire and I had all the necessary tools to do so. It was an eye opener, your motor skills and dexterity are severely affected. Why do you think the Navy Seals subject their recruits to brutal cold. No battle is going to have them hooked arm-in-arm sitting in the cold surf for hours, NO it's so they are subjected to a situation that may resemble another situation and they need to know if their body can take the strain. BTW I've know a few guys who went to BUDS and washed out because of the cold and from what I understand it's the number one bellringer!

      CypressJim this is great training and I mean training. All combative skills require practice in order to perfect. Some simply choose to be more dedicated than others.Many want to fight but the real question is what do you fight for?These individuals are usually law enforcement or off military that want to stay sharp it's no different than going to paintball.Both Zero and Doug are experts in their respective fields, and although i've been throiugh just as much training as these guys I don't have my head to far up my @#$ to admit I wouldn't want to mess with those guys I'd rather learn.

    • @rdsii64
      @rdsii64 10 лет назад +2

      CypressJim Maybe not but you have to remember thats not the point. The point is develop confidence in your ability and push beyond your comfort zone and still be able to function. No "operator" is going to stick his hands in ice then fight either. But having completed this kind of training event, You will be able to function at high level if you are forced to defend your self under any kind of stress. Remember you are not training to fight with iced up hands, you are simply training to fight. The ice in a bucket is just one of many mechanism to artificially induce stress. I have seen snipers hit targets while one person is constantly poring cold water on their head while two more are yelling in each ear. This would never happen in a real fight but that sniper is way better at performing his tasks while being uncomfortable because of it.

    Great video! I think the next video should explore the opposite- when vasodilation occurs after say running 100m sprints between engaging targets. The combination of adrenaline rush, effects of cortisol, muscle fatigue, sweating and control of breathing are all realistic factors in real life scenarios. Plus, it helps to keep the operator in good cardio shape!

  • @jlaarmament
    @jlaarmament 10 лет назад

    The training that is being depicted in these videos are great. To everyone out there that is criticising these demonstrations, stop thinking inside the box. Your obviously are not any type of combative operator. And if you are you are forgetting the moral to instructor Zeros training. Be adaptive, train in a sense of worst case scenario, subject your self to the most off the wall drills as you can. Through all this it will develop focus, muscle memory, and an adaptive instinct to think fast........ 7years between Afghanistan and iraq in special operations I can verify that real world situations are never the same and being mentally ready to adapt and over come was the key to my success while conducting operations.

    This is actually good because I remember once I was walking towards home I had no money for a bus pass boots that weren't made for the snow and no gloves. I walked about 10-25 miles just to get home.. I had frost bites on my feet and hands which made it hard for me to walk you really have to push yourself because those frost makes you wanna stop.. As I was walking I fell on to the ground which was even worse but I managed to get up quick to save myself from embarrassment.

    This video wasn't meant to simulate cold weather combat marksmanship. The video shows exactly what I was expecting: an example of what vasoconstriction is, what can cause, and how it effects dexterity, regardless of how seasoned a shooter/ warrior one may be. I seriously don't see where people get the notion that this video was somehow supposed to be looked upon as a cold weather combat training equivalent. For the guys saying go to Alaska in winter: Fine, I'd like to see that; but only if you are there too. You can be the moving targets.

    There is no substitute for repetitious training, no it does not simulate real world environments in terms of stress, however it does teach muscle memory. Breathing is not a conscious act its just done automatically by the brain and regulated by the brain.
    If you train repetitiously in live fire simulated drills you can build this memory in such a way it becomes second nature, thus freeing up thought processes to compensate with stress and the ever evolving fluidity of the situation you may find yourself in.Combine this with another 3 operatives with the same skill set and you have a team of individuals moving as one and a very dominant force. These techniques shown in these videos are far and above the average shooters capabilities and take time effort to perfect, but even then we are still human. Perfection is a myth if you think you are perfect you just stopped learning and then have inhibited yourself. Great videos in my opinion

    People comment here like they wouldn't understand importance of proper clothing in cold weather. When you are wearing proper clothing, your head/feet/ass is not going to freeze up. Try to handle a pistol (or most other firearms) properly with thick winter gloves. That is how your hands have(!) to get cold.

  • @t3golf
    @t3golf 10 лет назад +1

    I love how so many people love to be hateful for no reason. Is someone going to purposely stick there hands in a bucket of ice before a gun fight like some messed up ALS challenge, no. Of course not. But what if you don't have the right clothes and are outside in a snowy environment. Say you don't see immediate action but are out there for several hours? Same kind of effects are going to take place on your hands.
    Not plausible? Possibly. But how about the Battle of the Bulge. Those guys had the wrong clothes and were out there for weeks. So here, 70 years later some guy on youtube puts a pertinent training method out there and trolls are saying how its stupid and would never be useful. They also probably live in Florida or somewhere warm where they wouldn't have to worry about it. Put them in a different climate, and oh….. I can see how that'd be useful now.
    You over train so that if you encounter a situation, then you can overcome the physical obstacles. It has less to do with physical readiness, and more to do with mental preparedness.
    And that's my internet rant for today…...

Every specially trained worrier needs to learn this to over come stress.its training mentally emotional physically in a controlled environment, to better bring an skill asset of memory muscle control to a hostile situation,giving the specially trained indavidual worrier an edge over there enemies.its a good vid.i still rely on phycalogical war fair to overcome my enemies,by using the environment I.e.surroundings to over whelm opposing forces,this is y it is important to understand invading forces training,tactics,weapons,political views including religion schooling,the list goes on.ultimately demoralize the invading force cause the apposing force is better equipped to handle unconventional war fair.

Soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and all Spec ops wear specialized head gear for protection. Its simple training to show how the body does with one area affected. I guess some dont like this video because they can still operate their video controller with ease with cold hands so that makes them bad asses or they are MILSIM black op CAG operators.

    I think the kiddies are missing the point. TO ME, the point of the drill/exercise is to mimic putting yourself (mind/body/soul) into extreme scenario's/situations as a way to further your training. As any1 can see this guy can hit a target all day long when shooting under "Range Circumstances". BUT if a person wants to push themselves further & harder they do things shown in the video to MIMIC high stress situations.
    NOTE: Doing these types of drills (PERSONALY) are far more realistic than any airsoft/paintball game a person could play. This guy is intentionally subjecting his body to high stress/harsh environment scenarios in order to further his capabilities. Nobody is going to intentionally dunk there hands in ice water for 10 min. & then shoot a firearm obviously but it is a great way of mimicking how your hands are going to feel in the winter time (depending on where you live, obviously) when your out in sub/below freezing temperatures & your huge ass gloves or even worse mittens are going to hinder your ability to operate your firearm.
    Stop & analyze why a person might subject themselves to this. Don't be a big giant dumb fuck ok. Our future as a country depends on you little bastards so start thinking outside of the box.

    Jump in a horse trough if you want to be realistic. When I was active duty, my ODA used to perform obstacle course events and rucking between the shooting stations. Weather, either hot or cold, intensifies the training but we also had the stress of having to buy a case of beer if you were one of the two lowest scoring individuals, determined by both time and hits. The best athletes always did better than the "tight" shot group guys. Back in those days the regular Army tested for "sight" shooting rather than "instinctive" shooting but what worked ok on silhouettes on a flat range did not translate to shooting from different positions using both dominant and non dominant hands while moving to and from cover and concealment.
