It hasn’t even been a year, I can’t handle this
It's this week's episode!
Coming back to SnapCube after fucking ages feels like a weird but kind experience because of how much Penny’s voice has changed… like damn woman
Moles be careful. If we make too much noise, move too fast. We’ll scare off Scout and Penny and then it’ll be 5 years until the next episode. Shhhhhhhh
*does an epic cool SpinDash from Sonic the hedgehog 2 to make noise and move fast*
*does fun and whimsical hijinks, resulting in many loud crashing sounds*
Oops.
See you in like 4 years I guess lol
10:06 penny not being able to believe that there’s 170,000 people in California when there’s 39 million here kills me
Fun fact, California and Canada have almost the same population, which is wild to me
@ yup. I always floor people with that fact lol
to be fair most states have like 13 people in them max. like i think the population of Oklahoma is 3 old white guys and a cow
I’m the last person in Connecticut so it’s not that unrealistic imho
The message behind the movie is that nuerodivergent people being forced into a nuerotypical workspace (main character being ADHD coded not focusing at school, weatherman being autism coded being shouted at by his boss) will end up in situations where they will be sent to hell by Saint Nick for their devious crimes of petty theft and the death of 172,000 people due to tiny robot.
can confirm, happened to a cousin of mine 🙏
MORE MT. MOLEHILL??? TRUELY THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS PRESENT THANK YOU SCOUT AND PENNY
I can't let go of the theme with the weatherman having this obsession with the weather as a kid and it being his dream and joy to be a weatherman when he grows up, but when he finally achieves it the world slowly pushes him down and grinds that childlike sense of wonder into dust.
The first overt sign we see of the world weighing on him is when this asshole executive type starts berating him in his office. As Scout and Penny pointed out, the weatherman was obviously a nerdy child, and as we learn later on in the movie he had some kind of big interest in meteorology as a child. This is a dream job for the weatherman, having the ability to talk about the weather in front of an audience and inform them about it. However, the executive is yelling at him, calling him boring and a joke, denigrating him for failing to predict a freak snowstorm that was beyond anybody's ability to predict. Despite that, we do see a little bit of that childishness within him. The executive asks him directly, "Did the the weather fairy just wave her magic wand and POOF it snowed!?" and the weatherman says, "Yes, sir," before backpeddling once he had realised what he just said.
Later in the movie, we see the executive and the weatherman again, and the executive is still berating him, threatening unemployment. The pressures of the world of money are pushing on him, and it is with these feelings that he discovers the source of the weather anomaly. He goes to investigate, but instead of the earnest interest of childlike curiosity, he's finally adopting the attitude of a modern career-focused individual, worried that this anomaly will cost him his job. The last bit of his childishness bursts through with the weatherman's request for cookies and candy at the family home. However, when he finds out about the machine and what it can do for his job, it's a sign that the materialistic world and the pressures of career growth and the drive to be successful have fully taken over and there's nothing of that spark of joy and love for the weather from his childhood. Instead of something to find happiness in, he now sees the weather as a thing to be controlled and harnessed for his own selfish gain, relenting to the values you're supposed to uphold as an adult under capitalism. His transformation into the greedy, self-centered villain the world wanted him to be is complete.
This push into the world of greed and destruction for self-profit and the loss of connection with his inner child comes to a climax in his confrontation with Santa. The weatherman is in direct conflict with a beloved figure for children the world over, and likely someone who instilled immense joy in the weatherman himself as a child. Instead of doing what is good and what is right, he "takes the plunge" so to speak, diving outside the window into the snow and driving away. However, he cannot escape his inner child. He crashes unwittingly into a candy factory, a place where almost any child would be delighted to find themselves, and lands directly into a vat of delicious chocolate. When he's discovered in his hiding place by Santa and the others, he echoes the childish sentiment of "finders keepers" in regards to the weather machine, refusing to hand it over. When he tries to escape, he comically tries to use a giant candy cane to zipline away, and when he loses his grip, he falls yet again into another large container of candy, this time being covered in cotton candy. He tries to ward away these feelings when he stumbles free by saying "I hate cotton candy!", but he is grabbed by the two elves and taken to the summer cabin along with the others. now forced to reckon with the cognitive dissonance caused by the opposing forces of a cruel world and childish joy.
His talk with Santa at the end brings this clash into stark relief. All the weatherman wanted as a child was to be a meteorologist. Unlike other kids, that was his passion and his dream. However, because of his differences the world has ridiculed him and forced him to become, as Santa put it, mean and snobbish. However, the weatherman finds redemption through readopting his childlike values and love for the weather. Santa convinces him that you don't need to sacrifice that which you've loved and enjoyed all your life, that fulfillment does not need to come at the cost of being a complete selfish jerk. Finally, by standing proud and embracing his love of meteorology, he's found himself being able to travel to fantastical locations such as the South Pole and teach others with the same passions that he has. This was only possible by shrugging off the cruelty of the world and embracing his inner child. The message of this, to me, is to never lose that light of childhood within you. You must nurture it and listen to it, and then good things will happen.
I hope that this rambling spiel was at least somewhat comprehensible haha. I guess it's a rather obvious theme, but one I relate to very heavily, seeing a lot of that weatherman character in myself.
Thank you, soo much for this, i am a little sleepy and tired from a lot of things, but reading the passion, whimsy and wonderment you have writen with...i'm warm, thank you for the delight you hugged me with this text ❤❤
@lipeluis Your kind words are very much appreciated!!! 😁
Absolutely criminal that this doesn't have more likes, this is the best mountain I've read in the comments section of any episode💙💙
@ thank you so much!
The message behind this movie is that Santa has the technology to stop climate change but chooses not to because that one girl ate too much candy.
"I guess all those old Latin inscriptions were right, "Pro picata unis multis dolibont." The many shall suffer, for the sins of the one."
God could make the world a better place but chooses not to as punishment for the world's sins. Santa is god also
"Too many chocolates! As your parents warned!"

Can't wait for next week's episode!!
1:27 scout and penny outing themselves as two women who havent spent a significant time in california: the grass is BROWN in june, its usually green in december because thats when the rainy season happens lmao*. not that anyone cares but as a californian its my duty to whip out my pedant license whenever the opportunity arises
*im not from socal in particular either, but if anything id guess its even less likely to have green grass in summer because its a dryer climate
"Do you have nightmares from public school? 'Cause I definitely do."
Same.
I have nightmares from PRIvate school, all school is hell T-T
I still think about the Bridge Tumbler Reddit bit from time to time
I know we’re now over a year removed from this last episode, but I am still re-listening to the whole series from time to time. Nothing gets me through a rough day or a long drive like Scout and Penny talking over some DCOM. Should their schedules ever free up again in the next three years for another batch, I’d be right there at the ready for it.
One of the elves is played by the voice of Patrick Star and they had him make a "are we supposed to be going East" joke........ peak cinema
I literally just finished listening to all of mount molehill for the first time on Sunday, thank you Scout and Penny for giving ME this gift personally. ❤
FUCKING SLAY THE PRINCESS STREAM #2 AND MT MOLEHILL IM GONNA FUCKING SCREAM THANK YOU
WE’RE SO BACK MOLEHEADS
I really like this format, it's like a movie night with funny commentary and like you said, ideas that can bounce of each other easily
I really hope we get another Just The Molehill. This is one of my comfort videos because it reminds me of watching a movie with my best friend and that vibe is really hard to capture
my favorite part was when they just started unabashedly enjoying the movie and began making a real time fandub in the middle of it
I'm barely into this episode and theres already so many bits that are cracking me up. 13:00 especially
They've always bounced off each other so fucking well
i was sick and at work and just feeling so crummy today when this dropped, and i think it's what got me through
i love Mountainous Molehill Theatre 3000, thank you
Im so happy Mt.Molehill is back I have been a fan from the first episode and there is nothing else like this. Not only is this very informative about what its like to grow up in certain parts of america specially surrounded by religion. As a Finnish person who is literally as far away from that as possible it gives me a glimse into a totally different world that mainstream american media doesnt really touch. Also Mt.Molehill is so extremely funny I laughed so much that it hurt.
Thank you for coming back Scout and Penny and thank you for being so gosh darn funny
9:40
I love the escalation here:
18 people-
38 people
170 THOUSAND PEOPLE DEAD
IM SO JOYOUS FILLED WITH THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT THANK YOU SCOUT AND PENNY!!!
i was fucking crying laughing watching this i loved it holy shit
Actually gasped seeing this in my sub box
im fully convinced that The Ultimate Christmas Present is some sort of auteur movie
this is actually the ultimate Christmas present I can't wait
Really enjoyed this episode of Real-Time Fandub, love this new format for the show. No idea why you made the video so small in this one though.
I assume it's because it would get auto-flagged by the studio if it was easier for bots to detect
@colin5227 oh yeah I know just part of the joke
they can only watch small movies
it's wild that you talked about how santa in this movie does everything to subvert the mystical properties associated with him but didn't go any further with it because my first thought when you mentioned that was that santa is like a government psyop to get christmas under their control, they're just using advanced technology and the power of myth to dictate human behaviour
I can't wait for the next episode
the lore that Santa can only see children on his radar, but this also applies to age-regressing adults is so funny
good for the age regressing adults tbh. They deserve santa just as much as the kids
doodoo poopoo!!!
Have a particularly intimidating shift coming up (I LOVE WORKING IN RETAIL ON CHRISTMAS YAYY) and the thought that I'm gonna get to a new Mt Molehill episode after is the very thing keeping me going let's do this shit
Hope you made it!
Ahhh mt. Molehill my favorite reaction channel
Can I just say, thank you so much for reviving this series Penny and Scout. I spent an entire day just cleaning out my apartment while moving to a new apartment. All night long, I binged this entire series and kept myself awake scrubbing carpets while listening to these theories. Thank you so much.

"This is now Scout, it's not Santa anymore-"
thanks yall this episode was a lot of fun c:
We still talk about you MT. Molehill…
I know its not dead i just love it a lot :)
I'm so fucking happy right now
I quite like this style of episode.
I kind or want to call this style a "Molehill climb"
as a californian I'll have you know our grass is green in the winter, and yellow in the summer (unless its painted or has sprinklers running constantly)
Aaahhhhh two episodes in one year let’s go
There’s been one reference to Like A Dragon 8 in each of the episodes, absolutely epic
The theory is that the movie is actually an Amphibia sequel. A young Brenda Song has an adventure with her headstrong blonde friend in California. Her character even mentions her mom liking Christmas as shown in the show.
There's also the "can you miss someone you didn't even know?" line, which also was in the show.
The annoying little brother is the kid from the live action Cat in The Hat!
I instantly recognized that child but couldn't place him
Spencer Breslin. He also appears as Curtis, an elf in The Santa Clause 2 and 3
RETURN OF THE QUEENS
Mt molehillheads were are so back!! Merry Christmas Scout and Penny!!!
I LOVE YOU FOR PUT TING THIS OUT JUST WHAT I WAS WISHING FOR EVERYONE HAVE HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Cant wait for more content Snapcube!
This is the best Mt. Science Molehill 3000 episode ever
1:03:18 yikes that just suplexed me into the coffee table, how dare you jump at me like that
OMG ITS BACK
ANOTHER UPLOAD! ON CHRISTMAS EVE! You guys are the best, I’m so thankful
I wish for Santa Clause to give me breets
Another NEW EPISODE THIS WEEK WHAT??
this made my family Christmas party bearable, im very happy
This was hilarious. where do you keep coming up with these bits? Thank you. Happy Holidays.
I really hope this pod continues further it's so good
Penny's delivery of "Cars tumbling off the bridge" at 9:48 never fails to make me laugh!
i think this kind of reads as an interpretation to the myth of prometheus where the weather machine is Fire, the girl child who's name i forgot is Prometheus, and Santa and his minions are the gods of the pantheon
i think that makes the annoying little brother the eagle who eats prometheus's liver, huh?
How did i only now see this. Oh my god.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IM SO HAPPY WE GET ANOTHER ONE! ITS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!!
I think that the real “ultimate Christmas present” was the gift of childhood negligence and ignorance, that will inevitably not be taken seriously by the adults because of the “kids will be kids” mentality
And then the reaction of growing up to that negligence becomes something like Edwin, who so strongly wants to always be right in what he can control.
@ exactly
i LOVED this format and i really hope you two do more!!!
THE RETURN OF THE QUEENS
WAIT THIS PODCAST STILL EXISTS??? It really is a Christmas miracle ✨✨
This being posted literally RIGHT after I finished relistening to the original Christmas episode was not the present I expected this year but greatly appreciated nonetheless!!
this is the best christmas ever
Im so happy
NO WAY!!!!
...this is exactly how i watch movies tho.
I remember this movie! It was one of those that zapped all your will to live.
Honestly just happy to have yall back, theory or no. Scout and penny are the ultimate dynamic duo so I’m here for it either way
weather man is giving herbert west a little
Awwwwww I’ve missed Scout and Penny so much!!!
please can there be a sonic unleashed fandub
Oh yeah, I remember this movie, and completely forgot it had baby Brenda Song in it.
NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE????
Just saw the movie's credits, Spencer Breslin is in this movie. Previously I'd only heard about him from the Defunctland Disney Channel theme documentary, in which there's a clip of him in a Disney 9/11 PSA
this makes me so very happy
Amazing. A "Christmas in July"-type movie that doesn't involve a widower or divorcee who owns a small-town antique shop wooing a high-powered executive lawyer who learns how to stop and smell the roses. That describes 90% of all Hallmark Channel movies.
can't wait for this series to get the BigJoel Bump
OK so... snow, people stuck in snow, snow disasters...you can totally do a Donner Party thing here, or a Napoleon retreating from Moscow thing.
A knishmas miracle
YAY MORE MT. MOLEHILL
IM FREAKING TF OUT I AM THE BIGGEST MT MOLEHILL FAN I LISTEN TO THE TWAS THE NIGHT EPISODE EVERY CHRISTMAS THANK YOU🫶🫶🫶
Your comedy is always on point
YES!!! THANK YOU TWO IM SO EXCITED
You guys are doing more? Truly a great holiday season!
I could easily see "Just the Molehill" being its own semi-regular-sub-series. Just keep the snow effect over the footage and ur set; it's thematically appropriate
YIPPEE NEW MT MOLEHILL EPISODE!!!!
OH MY GODDD WE ARE GETTING FED
You should do a music video on there goes Hawaii
I’m so happy! This looks like a new format, too.
So excited!!!!
HAPPY 800K ON YTTT PENNYY
I cant believe it🥺❤️
Love this editing
