Actually, moderate background noise (not elevator noise xd) is good for masking tinnitus, and you can concentrate better with a masked and CONTROLLED tinnitus. Its all about controll, if you controll the noise, it wont be a "danger" environment for your subconcous mind, and your concentration will improve.
I have succesfull hypnosis therapy with this logic, and living with T perfectly fine, with rarely peaks and concusly avoid hyperacusis situations.

Everyone remember!!! Dr Shore’s theory is that all tinnitus regardless of the cause originates in the dorsal cochlear nucleus. If you don’t have a somatic type (I don’t believe I do), this device should still work. According to Dr Shore, the somatic components are likely still there, just not as prominent. Also, they didn’t really know if the animals could modulate their tinnitus, and we really don’t know for sure if every participant in the study had somatic tinnitus. Remember, this device should help most people… not just people with TMJ or spinal issues.

Clench your teeth and see if that makes it ring louder. In that case : somatory.
Move your head and it rings louder : somatory.
No effect whatever move you make with your body ? Non somatory.
It's irrelevant anyway, as Shore's device would probably work in each scenario.@@intothedragon

Lots of people in the comments not understanding "somatic tinnitus". Tinnitus that started from noise, medication, stress, neck/jaw issues, from virtually ANYTHING is considered "somatic" IF you can make your tinnitus change with ANY sort of movement such as clenching your jaw, opening your mouth, moving your neck, etc
Somatic tinnitus does NOT mean only tinnitus that developed from neck/jaw issues. Susan Shore's theory is that the majority of people have somatic tinnitus.
The studies have been done for somatic tinnitus but this does not mean that people who don't have somatic tinnitus won't be able to use or benefit from the device. They just haven't tested it on such cases to keep the research focused which allows them to release the device faster.

You have a misunderstanding. The study selected people that react to somatic stimulation which doesn’t mean the tinnitus has a somatic cause. Most people react to somatic stimulation even when the tinnitus is due to heating loss or any other reason. The main reason of bothersome tinnitus is a hyper sensitive cochlear.
The point is the treatment can be effective regardless of the cause of tinnitus.

The link between the somatic sensory nerves and auditory nerves was first detailed by two Brazilian scientists so this research is not novel just and attempt to exploit what is known. The research showed that unlike cats that move their ears to detect the direction of sound humans rely on monitoring changes in the signals from the neck and shoulder muscles that are integrated with the auditory signal. Any problem with these muscles, such as the common head forward position from over use of computers or mobile phones causes an abnormal waveform which the brain interprets as tinnitus - somewhat like the feedback from a microphone placed too close to a speaker The answer is not a device like this but a solution to the real problem for which one needs to see a chiropractor as ENT doctors and audiologists have not got a clue about this problem. I solved my own tinnitus problem via this route and understanding of the proble.

In terms of the animal study, did the researchers induce a somatosensory type of tinnitus in the animal test subjects? If not, then how would the treatment be limited to only those with somatosensory based tinnitus? If they induced cochlear or other types of tinnitus and the research showed improvement, then could one assume it work on those other types of tinnitus? I would think they'd want an apples to apples type of comparison here unless I'm oversimplifying it.

What are your thoughts about it working for non-somatic cases? I think there have been studies to show that Tennitus originates in the dorsal cochlear nucleus due to hyperactive fusiform cells. Quite a bit in fact. But during these 2 years I did not have any T. I relate my T to somatic, but how can I be sure? When I move my jaws left to right and vc I can increase the sound. I’m Really Wondering And Worried How Much This Will Cost For The Average Person ( Especially For People On A Fixed Income or Budget )If And When It Will Actually Be Put On The Market For People To Purchase This Product because I Think Most Average People Won’t Be Able To Afford It . I Myself Have Been Suffering From Tinnitus Since 1982 And Will Probably Not Be Able To Afford This Treatment Product. I’m Really Tired Of Dealing With This Problem I’ve Had For Well Over 4 Decades Now And Don’t Know What Else To Do About It and I Really Don’t Think Most Major ( Or Other Insurance Companies ) Would Cover Any Or All Of The Cost For People Who Couldn’t Afford It On Their Own.

What is interesting to me is that most people get better (as I have) over the course of time. In other words most people do much better with the perception of tinnitus regardless of what they do...even if they do nothing. So it is interesting to me as to what the actual benefit of this device is, since over time the tinnitus perception reduces by default. How many people would have naturally gotten better even without the device.
