I buy 100lbs of flour each year. Half goes into Mylar bags with O2 absorbers and the other half goes straight into the 5 gallon bucket. I cook everything from scratch so it gets used. I have 2 deep freezers...one big one small. I want to add another large deep freezer and an upright freezer.
We own a few acres and it’s a blessing being able to hunt on our own land. I have been hunting for 3 years and the husband has been hunting all his life. He has a rule of no babies and no females. Personally I don’t want anything smaller than a 6pt. With my garden space and a little swampy section of our property it kinda makes a little safe haven for the mommas to raise their babies. I enjoy hunting as it gives me a little bit of quiet alone time to think and such with a random kick of adrenaline. With the rule set in place we’re able to not only keep ourselves from going overboard but to be able to watch the babies grow. More appreciation, patience and gratitude. We do not hunt together for he is incredibly disruptive!
I can almost all my meat, nothing better than the ease of having it cooked & ready to use! 👍🏻 Would love to know more about the Kefir…how you make it, what you use it for. 🙏🏻
Road trip must have coffee! LOL. I just bought another 10 cu ft freezer making a grand total of 3 - 22 cu ft and 3 10 cu ft....lol. I do agree that having the freezers is much less concerning than one big walk in. For me, it was also cheaper to buy 2 10 cu ft than to buy 1 22 cu ft...I saved around 1000 CDN (737 USD).
I try to keep meat in my biggest chest freezer and stuff like vegetables, breads, butter, etc in my smaller one...not so much of a loss if the smaller one goes down. But this is also why I try to can, ferment and freeze dry as much as possible to keep foods shelf stable. This is also why I'm seriously interested in the Oupes Mega series power stations to have backup power for the freezers and fridge...and some space heaters in cold CNY.
I love to can beef and venison and have done elk. They are all so tender and ready to eat. Yum yum. Oh I like to put beef tallow just a small amount into each quart jar version elk and beef
Hello, I also love the Alvarado St bagels. It’s kinda random but my favorite thing from Azure Standard is their organic unsalted dry roasted peanuts…. I’m addicted. 😊
I fed 6 people with some canned turkey and broth and mixed veggies tonight with less than 15 minutes of hands-on effort. If you think canned meat is gross, I just encourage you to try it in a real meal. It’s delicious and it is an absolute lifestyle saver on busy nights!
I love deer hunting. It's the naps in the afternoon sun that are the best!! I dressed out and processed many deer in Michigan and Missouri both with my brother and my dad. Sure miss my dad 💜 and his sweet smelling cigars while we field dressed the deer. Cool about the canner!!
I get beef in January. I’m using up the last of it this month. With ham and turkey on sale right now, I’m stocking up on that. My 3 freezers will be full. I’ll be starting the Pantry Challenge in January.
I didn't think I would like canned meat. But I wanted to try one can of stewing meat, hamburger, pork and chicken to see if we liked it. I wanted to find out before a freezer emerg whether canning would be a good option. We LOVE the canned meat.
My husband and I would love to get into hunting but to be honest if you didn't grow up doing it, its not the easiest thing to just jump into and figure out.
My husband taught me how to hunt when I was 63 and my first hunt was in Wyoming for Antelope. Never too late to know if you can actually do it! I loved it!
I love Azure but it’s an hour long drive and it seems like I’ll get my order together and the time is inconvenient so I cancel. I usually just hit Costco and Sam’s. My hubby and son just went to set up the deer stand. It’s just got cold here so it’s time. My daddy always went with them hunting and he passed in December 2020. Praying they get a big one for daddy. 🥹❤️We have freeezers in hidden places. We are a family of four too. 😂😂
We agree with you! We LOVE our home canned chicken! It’s delicious and super easy and convenient to use!
