From my understanding the balloons was supposed to reference food that got stuck on your teeth and the black man is supposed to reference toothpaste and at the end the voice over said “Don’t judge a book by its cover” because the toothpaste color is grey so people would think it’s not effective? It's common in some Asian cultures to associate black and brownness with dirtiness and to praise whiteness and anglo culture. There was another commercial some time ago from another Asian country that showed a very white-looking Asian lady throw her black boyfriend into the washing machine. He then comes out as a white-looking Asian man and she's happy. They know exactly what they be doing.
