I got a MacBook Pro 16 inch M4 Max 16 Core CPU with 64GB of RAM and I'm totally blown away by the performance. It sips power and all round it leaves every other laptop I've ever owned in the dust.
Thank you! I’ve had terrible time with microphone and had to return the one i got. I also meed to reduce the echos - so much work to do but i hope i can do them.
Thank you for a great review! Perhaps I will hold off on Final Cut software until some of the kinks are worked out? Not a “must have now” thing for me. Loved how you referred people back to the previous version on how to max your Ram and save $$! Thank you! Questions: Currently, besides day to day work, lots of photography, some design and graphic work, some video/media. Would love to pursue more video, specifically recording music and vocals. That may be an entire different animal for the future. Do you have any suggestions regarding TB storage. My cart is sitting w M4 Pro 14/20/16 24GB unified memory and 512 SSD. Personally, especially when it comes to photos and projects, I think backup storage is a good idea. Curious as to your thoughts. I do utilize iCloud backup. Thank you so much!
Thank you for your feedback, really appreciate it. If you are looking to use final cut pro then i would consider 1TB option because this video alone took 600GB of storage but that is a FCP quirk, you can reduce the size of your FCP library by unloading ungenerated file but it can cause you issues in the middle of an edit. However, you can also store your library on your external hard drive which is awesome if you are not carrying your device a lot as it needs to be plugged in to access it. Looks like you are staying on top of your storage by utilizing icloud for your photos and projects. This could mean you can save that $200 and get a bigger external hard drive like the ones from samsung.
Excellent review! I really appreciate you giving a very honest review, covering so many aspects, like the issues running Final Cut Pro. Are you using the newest version 11 of Final Cut Pro? Was there any additional OS update needed when it arrived with Sequoia? Mine will arrive in a few days. I'm super curious to compare how it performs with a large multi-layered, multi-effects After Effects file where playing the timeline on my M1 Max 64GB RAM laptop would seriously lag ... and the fans would run continually. Similar situation when screen recording a large project in Logic Pro, using Camtasia where the recorded screen would stutter and lag when dragging a panel ... I was surprised that the M1 Max MacBook Pro 16" had trouble handling these fairly ordinary tasks ... unless I hadn't allocated sufficient CPU/GPU directly in the software themselves ... This one will be M4 Max 128GB RAM. I'm interested in seeing the comparisons. I wonder why most RUclipsr review channels mostly focus on exports ... to me exports are the least of my problems. I want the laptop to perform as smooth as butter when I'm using robust software like After Effects, that the timeline should be able to play back the entire timeline at full resolution without buffering or lagging, etc.
Hi, Thank you for taking time to reply. I am using the latest version of FCP (11). However, i did have FCPX when the laptop first came out and most of the crashing issues happened with FCPX the only way around it was to export the file and use capcut for the remainder of the video edit and then delete the library and rest my preferences. That does not mean FCP11 is issue free, i've had clips go missing on FCP11 on some instance and Audio go missing on the exported file! This review, i had to export it 3 times as it was missing sound or clips which is super annoying. There was no missing update but i can see now there is a 15.1.1 update pending - hopefully that addresses some of the issues with FCP. Yes agree - the exports numbers or benchmark tests does not matter for majority of users which is why i kept it to minimal in my review. I am also surprised how quickly the fan spins when you are editing a file with a lot of layers and it does get warm. I mean my videos just touch the basics of editing and it does feel warm sometimes. I wont be surprised if the fans spin when you are adding in aftereffects layer etc. I'll try to share my experience in the community tab where possible. I think that is the best place to do them on YT. I do think your spec will not have any problems though as you've gone for the top spec. I am super excited for you - do share with me if you do run into any issue. All the best.
To be fair the 24 hours are for 720p Video playback or something like that. All Macbook Pros from the past also did only give you 2-5 hours max with more demanding tasks. Thanks for sharing your experience.
faster and lighter maybe but i dont know about the price. Apple did me dirty with the iPhone 15 PM trade in value this year. Even though the 16PM was same price as 15 the trade in value for the 15 meant i had to pay £70 more and i elected not to do it.
The redesign will most likely be slimmer or smaller which means if Apple does not invent a better cooling system or actually change something in their new chips we will live in fan noise city like in the old Intel days because the current design has reached its thermal envelope already as you can see with.the 14 inch M4 Pro/Max systems.
I decided to buy m1 max from intel version for video editing. I initially ordered m4 max 40 gpu and was not impressed, fans are same if not worse than my intel
@backchatter not sure, but in one of the videos onutube, comparison between 1 2 3 4 all MAX macbook pros, m1 fans ran the quietest, m2 was slightly louder and then m3 and m4 fans were the worst actually m4 fans were louder than m3s, looks like theres no new cooling system, they upgraded cores into sams chassy without solving cooling system, so now fans run wild trying to cool off all those cores
@@backchatterit is a very powerful (and hot) chip. It looks like binned M4 Pro in 14" body (with 12 / 16 cores) is the best in terms of speed and cooling in this chasis. With 48 GB it would still be way faster than M1 Pro / M2 Pro, but will not run as hot as Max chips. I’d rather on rare occasion wait a bit longer for processing, rather than have noisy notebook.
@@backchatter no it is just physics. Apple has only pushed more and more power into the chips since M1 to increase the frequency and we have reached the thermal envelope of this design/chasis. That is why I hope that Apple will not make it slimmer or smaller in the rumored 2026 redesign because then we are back in fan noise city like in the old intel days.

Great video, just focus on increasing the audio quality (remove echoes) maybe get a shure sm7b, but yeah, great work

Great content! I like how the webcam setting cut out all the echo in your audio.
Yes especially, i have so much echo in my room (need to improve the "studio" set up) and it did help reduce that massively.

I've just had the missing clips issue again. I've updated my community notes with the picture of it.

Yoo the smoke was sick!!! Also I rarely notice the fingerprints a year later.
Bro my m2 midnight blue is a mess!
Thants a genuine one. Thanks man!
All the reflections in the side-by-side comparison of the Air and Pro displays also showed me Nano Texture is the way to go
It was also filmed at a distance. If you a window by the side then for sure nano texture helps
I have it also, I think I’m going to get the M4 air when it comes out. The pro becomes uncomfortable to type on after a while.
2:17 isn't m4 pro 24gb standard? 16 is the regular m4
Good spot!
External drives is such a pain
I was the same when i ordered my mac but i am not starting to see the upsides.
There will be a complete redesign in 2026 so assume this computer will be traded in 2 years from now. Faster, lighter and same price.

I m surprised that my fans spin up quite fast too! Maybe apps are not yet optimised?

This makes sense actually! I suppose making it lighter instead of slimmer would be really good.
