Greil is great. The interviewer could listen every now and then.

I've been a fan of Marcus's writing since Mystery Train: I still have the copy I checked out of my high school library & never returned! Still the best book ever written about rock'n'roll, because it's not only about the music, but rock-n-roll in the broader context of America as an idea.
Lipstick Traces is a tour de force about the Sex Pistols and their cultural antecedents, with an irresistable subtitle: A Secret History of the 20th Century.
Read his work, you'll never be the same again.

'Mystery Train' is the greatest book about music ever written.

I don't think that the idea of humans being ruined by their own poor behavior is embedded in America today because of the Old Testament, I think it is common sense! As I listen more and more to Greil Marcus, I find it sad that he can make a living and be so admired when his discussions are so trivial.

"Who is the other guy he mentions besides Roth?"
    John Dos Passos.

And America is the only mono-theistic culture on the planet that has covenant with Gawd. GAWD. I'm in awe of this man's self violation of history. The genie is out of the bottle. One battle after another, EVERYTIME... Sick at heart and lost as a puking child.
