I used to believe this however TailsTube confirmed he had tons of different names as a coverup: -Nack the Weasel -Fang the sniper -Fang the hunter Apparently his actual name is just Fang without a title. However a lot of Sonic characters have “The [Insert animal’s name here]” as a title. So it is possible that Fang’s real full name is Fang the Jerboa. Because apparently Fang is a Jerboa and not some weird wolf looking guy. For context Tails says that Fang is a jerboa and a jerboa is like a weird rat creature with big feet.
This is really good, I never thought anyone would review these three characters, I hope they return as their actual selves and not just the heavy magician turning into them
I’m on the side that Fang is 100% jerboa. I honestly think he’d make a much better henchman for Dr. Robotnik than Orbot and Cubot. But I think SEGA has been reluctant to bring him back in the main 3D games due to the name and species confusion. Maybe they’re worried western audiences won’t accept the name Fang if they grew up on the Archie comics or Game Gear titles; or that in Sonic’s universe a wolf can somehow produce viable offspring with a jerboa or weasel. Then again, the Sonic franchise is no stranger to retcons, so I think they should definitively make him Fang the Sniper jerboa. And if they’re worried about the general obscurity of what a jerboa is, Knuckles was many people’s first exposure to what an echidna is and he’s one of the franchise’s most popular characters. Speaking of echidnas, last time I made a comment on one of your videos I mentioned Tikal, and I think she’d be a good character for an Origin Oracle. I know you said you wanted to do a video on Knuckles’ clan after the new movie comes out, but Tikal still has some interesting conceptual origins and history in the Archie and Fleetway comics.
Definitely will get to Tikal. I’m going to do the last couple of “classic” characters, do a couple non-Sonic characters and then make my way to the Sonic Adventure newcomers (Tikal, Chaos, Big, (maybe Gamma)
I think him being a Jerboa fits perfectly with the sonic species convention. I'd never heard of a hedgehog, echidna, or a Jerboa when I was a young lad in the 90s. Being from the city I'd never even seen a weasel, certainly not a bat, a fox, or a purple cat.
Fang is by far Sonic's most underutilised villain. He's a breath of fresh air in the rogue's gallery, and for a brief while used to appear as often as Knuckles and Amy. There's no good reason why he shouldn't return in a proper 3D Sonic game, and it's not like Sonic Team haven't already had multiple chances to bring him back (Xtreme and Heroes not withstanding). One of the biggest sins Shadow's own game committed was, instead of focusing on the character's time and space-manipulation powers, giving him firearms and vehicles that drove slower than he did on-foot. They basically stole part of Fang's identity to nobody's benefit. Fang already has a gun that's stylised to fit within Sonic's age limits, and his own vehicle to boot; the Marvellous Queen airbike. If Fang were ever to become playable in a 3D Sonic game, maybe his gun would have different ammo types to suit a situation, and the Marvellous Queen segments would be pure spectacle for the player to rack up points the more carnage they cause. Hell, some of his other haywire contraptions could be used for some unique yet challenging platform segments. Sonic Rush Adventure was Sonic Team's best chance to bring this character back. Fang's described as hailing from "Otherspace" or "Another Dimension", so why not have this dimension be the Sol Dimension? In his debut, he was an optional boss Sonic had to fight for the Chaos Emeralds, so why not have him once again contending with Sonic for the Sol Emeralds? Yet instead, Sonic Team chose to make a redundant one-off character named Johnny, have Sonic race THAT. People wouldn't be throwing around the criticism of "Sonic and his stupid friends" anywhere near as much as they do now, if Sonic Team made good use of the characters they did have and didn't constantly replace them with redundant characters serving the exact same purpose.
It's so nice to read this with Fang being used more nowadays. He's very entertaining and even if Superstars wasn't the greatest game, especially classic sonic wise, it's just cool to see the guy in action.

According to his bio, he's the number 1 snowboarder on North Island, and that he's also a rather shy person. The SNN wiki apparently says it also notes him having a "gentle and loving heart" (which is something the IDW continuity seems to note while also keeping him with Bean and Fang for those who liked Team Hooligan by having him be someone who's actually a softie deep down that "hangs out with the wrong crowd"). Though like the personality Archie would end up giving him, he IS indeed a pretty quiet individual.
These three kinda got mentioned in IDW Sonic #3, Ian put it in there as sort if a backdoor for if his team is allowed to bring those guys in one day when the Classic-Modern division ends, it shows he’s aware of the split’s flaws. However, that day will have to wait and when SEGA found out about it, they said, “Please don’t do that again.” And no, they did not put Ian on a time-out nor did they scold him.
Okay, I really like how people have a hard time figuring out what species Fang is, because in the end, they're not supposed to be real animals, but aliens or whatever, and all these animal last names are approximations, look, they wanna fit in okay? He doesn't really know what's his best fit, gerboa and wolf are really similar you know?
honestly bean being trick by people with his weakness for the shiny is hilarious and when he made all the explosives in the air blow up waving his fingers to music was good as for the other 2 what can I say bark is quiet with unknown backstory and nack's a treasure hunter who doesn't care where's he is getting his next pay day from I like them they have potential they just need more appearances/ adventures to build themselves up
something i personally find really interesting about nack in the archie comics is that he was basically the instigator of the mecha madness special by getting the jump on and kidnapping sonic to be roboticized by robotnik. this marks basically the only time where nack has had any sort of significant victory over sonic. obviously though this victory didn't last long, as knuckles was roboticized himself to stop sonic, and sonic's... one millionth ring? or something? un-roboticized him?? yeah idk what that was all about either anyway it ended the exact same way you'd expect: nack gets thrown in jail again
Considering the fact that almost every new character in this Universe is a new animal, I’m actually kinda surprised there aren’t more hybrid characters like Fang.
I know either the story of shadow and silver is easy and or they are just unknown as they aren’t really common characters (silver mainly) but can you maybe do them? They are my favorite characters and I would love to see you do them!

*Small spoilers for the Triple Trouble 16 bit remake:* I think the way that the remake connected it directly to Sonic 3 is genius since the reason why you fight Knuckles again is hecause he’s Metal Sonic in diguise. One has to wonder why he wasn’t replaced by Metal Knuckles instead, but then you see his final boss phases and it makes him still being around totally worth it. And what a coincidence too, Metal Sonic is in the two games that are more direct sequels than the actual numbered sequels, since CD takes place in between 1 and 2. So basically Triple Trouble is now the Sonic CD of Sonic 3 and Mania. *Good stuff.*

Sonic’s 30th anniversary comic book was my second Sonic comic and I kinda like Bean in the story
