    Overall strongest: Brutii, that much is beyond dispute, nothing in this game can defeat urban cohorts, its simply not doable unless you play against the dumb ai that runs full frontal into elite phalanx and keeps still for the massive cav charge required to even dent these guys.
    Best allrounders: Seleucids, they combine basically everything and only lack elite archers for the complete package.
    Best ambushes: Gauls, their forest hunters are freaking deadly in forest ambushes, more so than any other unit.
    Best shock tactics: Germans. They combine far more shock units into one army than any other faction, only absolute elite units can dream of standing their ground against an army that uses all at once.
    Best underdogs: Numidia, a faction so ridiculously bad you just gotta root for them a little bit.

  • @lf2208
    @lf2208 5 лет назад +66

    Yeah that's just not true. The Seleucids have one of the best unit rosters, and one of the best expansion opportunities of any factions, but they require a lot of skill and luck to survive in the early game. If you don't play them, the Seleucids are always one of the first factions to go, because all their neighbors hate them.
    I can imagine your argument, but I do disagree. The Brutii have an overpowered unit roster, can and will expand to the rich Greek lands and even a newbie can achieve total victory with them. The Brutii are never ever in the danger of being wiped out, whereas the Seleucids are in serious danger of being wiped out.

      Because if your argument is that you are owning the AI Brutii, I'm sad to say that doesn't matter at all, in my opinion.
      You should always make quick work of the Roman factions, especially the Brutii, if you're playing a Greek faction.
      We should try to base this 'best faction' judgement on neutral circumstances, and leave all human player involvement out of it.

      Indeed, I once did a Seleucid empire campaign and got dogpilled by Egypt, Pontus, Armenia ,Parthya early and later on the greeks and Scythia while I was still dealing with Egypt and Pontus, To this day I don't know how were Pontus able to field so many armies one after another but the fact that Egypt, Pontus, Parthya and Armenia were allies and only had me as an enemy might have had something to do with it. At the end of my stomp on all Egyptians and the Smashing of Armenia in 3 Turns I was overextended as fuck, the Parthians still had one city that was too far from my reach and the Schytians and greeks decided to join in the fun... Yes the Seleucids are savage to play, you're constantly attacked by ALL your neighbours and they're strong ones too.
      Now Macedon, that was a fun playthrough, Managed to conquer Rome and kill off SPQR ,The Julli and the Brutii before the first set of reforms and the only reason the Scitii survived for longer was because they managed to hole up in their african territories and that the Egyptians were again proving a nuisance. They also thought me that the Greek cities are cunts, I even became their protectorate once during that session and the damn backstabbing bastards tried to Conquer me again.

      You can prevent early attacks on Seleucids by draining all the money from your neighbours with a diplomacy and recruit your own army on the same money to attack Egypt, pillaging their cities to recruit next army, attacking Pontus and so on. Just don't waste your money to defend and develop tiny settlements - let AI do that if they capture it.

    Seleucids are very strong. All units have good use.
    Keep a strong and low cost army of archers, pikemen, cavalry and chariots in towns to fight against rebels.
    For fast conquest;
    1. use an army of 5 armored elephants [charge first & break enemy formation] 10 cataphract [charge second and make remaining armies rout] and 5 companion cavalry [charge last and kill fleeing troops. They end huge battles very quickly even when greatly outnumbered. This army takes out anything in the field.
    2. use army of 10 silvershield legionaries to take walls, 9 silvershield pikemen to take tight streets in phalanx formation, 1 general to keep morale. This is one of the strongest builds to take towns.
    #1 army is all cavalry so they move across map quickly and take out anything big out of the walls. #2 makes its way through slowly but takes towns efficiently

    Recently, I was playing as the Seleucids on very hard difficulty just for the hell of it. Mind you, this was my first time playing on very hard difficulty and let me tell you, it's unbelievable. Usually I'd play on medium but then I stepped up my game so I could improve. I must say, it is as the difficulty says, HARD. The Egyptians want a piece of me, my Pontic and Parthian allies betrayed me, the Armenians went on the action too, then my former friends the Greek City-States attacked as well. I managed to beat up and absolutely destroy the Egyptians, the Pontics, almost all of the Parthians, soon the Armenians, and the City-States, all WITHOUT ANY OF THEM TAKING AWAY MY TERRITORIES. (I wish I was joking, but I managed to keep all my cities intact and take new lands for the empire.) And guess what? The Romans arrived. By boat.
    The Brutii landed near Halicarnassus and lay siege on the settlement, pinning down my forces there. And for some reason, they didn't even take the entirety of the Greek Peninsula! They just went straight towards me! ME! What the hell!? They didn't take Sparta or any of the Macedonian lands, they just went to me for some reason! How the fu-!?

      Here’s some tips, the first faction you attack will be Egypt,rush Alexandria or Memphis first thing,that will help a lot since Alexandria has their faction leader and Memphis has the pyramids to help with loyalty,then blitz the rest of Egypt.BTW never ally with Parthia,they’ll always betray you. ally with Armenia,go after Parthia if they pose a threat,then after that go after Armenia,and then do whatever you want from there.

    Brutii got in fact a way stronger roaster with inflated units stats, and are paid to conquers the best region in the game. They ARE the best faction in the game by a large margin.
    Egyptians are 2nd because you can just stomps all their competition since they only have one neighburg that is seleucid, who have like 5 main factions as ennemy with every body hating them, a very weak early roaster that need times to upgrade and a bad starting economy
    Im talking full autobattle curbstomp winning here even at max difficulty

    The Seleucid start is not too bad. Levy pikemen smash Egypt's nile spearmen and nubian infantry. Plus you get the powerful scythed chariots early if you build a blacksmith. I usually play it defensively in Seleucia and offensively with Egypt until I can recruit phalanx pikemen and cataphracts. Money stockpiles quickly once you take Halicarnassus and Salamis

    I agree with the Seleucids. They are the best faction because of their wide variety of units. they have every kind of cavalry, a wide selection of phalanx, armored swordsmen (legionaries), scythed chariots, onagers, and every kind of elephant. The only thing they don’t have is the upgraded archers.
    Now, I would have to disagree about the Romans. In my book, Germania beats them out and just misses the top spot to the Seleucids. Why? The germanians have a good selection of units. They have phalanx, great axe men, upgraded archers, great cavalry. And they have the berserkers, the most OP thing I have ever seen in a video game. Even the armored Elephants will lose to the berserkers. So why do the Seleucids win? Variety and armor. Germania units just don’t wear armor. As such, they are vulnerable. Also, Germania doesn’t have the chariots or Elephants. True, berserkers will destroy both, they are not armored and are quite vulnerable to archers.

      I think he was talking in a neutral comparasion based on the economy of the regions and how much territory the nations begin with and how good are the troops. So if we look in this way Seleucid are shurely one of the bests factions... if we talk in more specific way, the selucids are one of the bests in the late game, but one of the worst in the early game, not for the army, but because they are sourranded by a lot of hostile factions like Egypt, Greeks, Armenia and Ponti...
      If we look only the army then is one of the bests... It's true greeks can do fastly the oplites one of the bests starting unit of the whole game, but in a short time if you have done well amministration you can do phalanks pikeman in lot of your territory and it is even better then the opplites... the problems of the greeks army it is the cavallery, the Seleucids in the other side have one of the bests with cataphrat and companion cavallery... I think if we look only the army Seleucids are equal to Romans, with a little bit more versatily on the cavallery side and little bit less on the infantry side.

      @@senzanome6702 The most overpowered unit in the game in relation to its campaign value is the standard legion (not the early, neither the urban or pretorian). However, the armored hoplites are available within 5 turns from Sparta, also take 1 turn to recruit, and are perhaps 75% of the value of a legion unit. I played a game where I took Rome within 25 turns using a full roster of armored hoplites (obviously recruited from a couple of cities) and of course I quit after that as I had basically had no difficulties left - I had much of the best regions on the map and an unstoppable army ready to get replenished from multiple cities and conquer the world. Meanwhile, it takes some 25-30 turns to even reach legionaries in the remastered game since you can no longer channel where the slaves go.

    • @senzanome6702
      @senzanome6702 Год назад

      @@Dan-uf2vh If you want a fast campain then yes, Greeks, Rome, but also Cartaghe are ones of the bests choices, this because with this factions you can rush, but in hard mode it is not impossible, but rushing is harder. With Seleucids it's true it is hard to grow quickly, but you can easly deal with armored oplites, their not a particoulary graet threat, shurely are really strong in the early game, but nothing to be so afraid... then obviously if the selucids have the leavy pikeman it is an easy win for a greeks with the armored oplite, but in three turn in Antioch you can have Phalanks Pikeman (also 1 turn for the recruitmen) and you can deal with the armored oplites. In more or less 25 turns you can have this troupes in a lot of seleucids cities. Romans hardly will arrive in Turkey in the early game amd if they did they have Hastati or principes and so you can deal with phalanks pikeman and yes triari are a good trupes but not against a phalanks. And if they come to fight seleucids with legionaries and similar, if you have made everything fine you will have preatty much everything, cataphrat, armored elephant, silver shield pikeman, silver shield legionaries and so you can easly deal with roman also in late game.
      Greeks instead they will deal with romans, but it will be more hard because they don't have good cavallery, only the late general bodyguard is good, but the late roman army have not particoulary issue against the phalanks. Of course spartan opplite will do massive damage, but armored opplite even if they will continue to be good, they won't be good as before. So what are you saiyng isn't wrong, but depends also wich is your style, wich difficoulty you play and when you fight a faction.

    If you know how to be an asshole, you can easily defend cities with a small stack of militia hoplites. I will say, however, it makes the opening stages of the game very boring. Regardless, making your nation with a strong economy rely on the cheapest thing in town, you can really rake in the cash and get to those wonderfully diverse units quicker than you think

      Your wrong,the cataphracts have high defense,which means they can just rush the archers while they try to damage the cataphracts,the phalanxes can defeat any charging Calvary,the cataphracts can charge into the Roman legions and destroy them,the copycat legions can bring the real Roman legions into a trap of either phalanx pikes or a cataphracts charge and the elephants can break any sort of formation.
