@@roylim1169 He is! New episode he NEEDS his workers to ware makeup so he (Caesar) doesn't "stand out". He also, "doesn't eat food". Guessing humans/brains

the lore of the series is in the theme song of zomburger says that steve is a "trickster god rise from the deep" and apparently cesare is a real zombie with 1000 years old he cannot be seen in his human persona like the others
@Timothy Damiani well the newest video from worthikids, wire, has military commando clowns go against the undead army. And you can see Steve couple very brief frames in the background.
I just realized that the Bigtop workers names are also references to clowns: Penny (Pennywise), and Billie and Tim, The two actors that played Pennywise, Tim Curry and Bill Skarsgard
Nerd here, and Worthikids actually mentions Cats again in the theme! The heaviside layer is also a reference. Also, if you think about it, Old Deut is a perfect role for Steve to have played! The elderly cat man has been alive for a very long time, and Steve is an unknowable clown entity who is possibly immortal. Perfect match!
Well, since Cesar is a real zombie, I think steve is a real clown, two ethereal beings existing in a human world. They have existed through all time as rivals, and now they battle with food trucks. After all Billie said that clowns aren’t real, showing that they literally don’t exist in that universe. I may just be digging into nothing, but there could be more than meets the eye with that series.
There really is something special about Bigtop Burger that has really stuck with me, and the short episodes have been so perfect for several rewatches. I sincerely hope we get to see more of this world in 2021.
I think one of the fascinating things about the show is the way it explores the dehumanizing nature of aesthetic and setting. Like, because their aesthetic is “clowns” and their setting is a restaurant, both customers we meet in the series ignore any human nuance behind the characters, with the Guy Montgomery customer unable to get past the idea of them being “actual, real clowns” showing his commitment to the kind of cult of authenticity in social media-driven food culture, and the second older customer looking at them only as a “fine eatery” and completely ignoring Penny’s rising confusion on what is going on with her boss. Steve is a perfect encapsulation of that dehumanization, because he is a performer and a chaos god and everything else, but mostly because he is ONLY aesthetic and setting. At the end of Greasepaint, Steve is the only one still in costume, he never really leaves his aesthetic. In the last pic of the extended version of Season 1 it implies that Steve just circles back to the food truck and sleeps at the wheel. He never really leaves his setting. He falls into roles completely, giving convincing emotion to every bizarre flight of fancy, getting swept up in every narrative he creates (from convincing Guy Montgomery’s customer, ever the slave to modern decontextualized aesthetic, it is Christmas with his post-ghosts generous-Scrooge routine to his need to create conflict with the “jacked” elk as well as drama in the form of a surprise paternity claim), and so acting as a perfect avatar for the mercurial, meaningless, but oh-so influential world of social media-driven “Instagram capitalism”. He is certainly more than that as well, but I think that’s enough to be getting on with.
I think Steve just loves what he does, that passion is what draws people to eat his food. Otherwise the people working for him would be more souless, and not as warm as we see.
just like how zomburger's names are references to dr caligari, big top's are references to IT (the stephen king series) penny - penny wise Bill(y) & Tim - names of actors who have played pennywise Steven - Steven King this kinda fits in with the rivalry as IT is leagues more popular than Dr Caligari (to be fair Dr Caligari is german and was made in the 1920's but still)
OK KO also is partly about workers. Not every episode, but the same could be said for Sponge Bob :/ theres probably a lot more cartoons that have the premise or theme of workers at a minimum wage job tbh. Idk why spongebob strikes this fellow as the only one.
Well, not only what you said. But something I noticed was how you can really tell they are fans of the original FLCL. If you know the anome and then watch this you feel the same atmosphere to the this series.
Based on what we know, not only from Bigtop Burger, but also from the song he made "Wire," it seems that "genuine" clowns are real, and are at some kind of war with supernatural/undead creatures, a war which has fizzled into a mere food truck rivalry
I just wanna say that I wholly enjoyed this a year ago and I would very much look forward to another video essay. you go through it in a easy to understand way.
One thing I love, with the exception of the Season 2 finale, both seasons each take place in a single day. S1 starts with their first customer of the day and then ends with them completing a route back to the same customer, who says "Weren't you all Clowns this morning?" implying that episode 1 was during the same day as episode 5. And S2 is even more clealry a single day, because it also takes place in a single overall location. (Again, with the exception of the S2 finale)
Another cool thing about the show is the overall theme of up and down. Up represents Bigtop burger from the name itself, Steve coming from above (as a sort of clown alien), and their rise to the top of the burger foodtruck industry. Down represents Zomburger literally representing Zombies coming from the ground to reach the land of the living, Cesare's past with the underworld and being resurrected, and their goal of making the worst burgers possible (down in quality). Another thing to note is the parallels of Steve and Cesare. Steve came from the top of clown society to the bottom until eventually arriving at Earth being exiled from his home (From top to bottom). Cesare was in the land of the living until he was murdered and ressurected from the underworld to the surface (from the bottom up). And in the middle is Earth where these two titans keep meeting and interacting with each other.
I personally like to think that BigTop Burgers is somewhat lore tied with Worthikids "Wire" animation. Where some Clows travel to a vampire/zombie world by forcing a vampire dude to open the portal to that world, and recover a kidnapped/lost clown child. Maybe that's just some background to the story and rivalry between Steve and Cesare, or could have happend in the same universe at some point, idk
The new theory seems to be Steve is from Worthi's PMV "Wire", because there's a member of the gang of clowns that looks suspiciously like a younger Steve.
Great video! I particularly love your take on performance. I feel like Steve drives the plot while his employees are the heart of the show that endears you to it.
