If you're just starting out in model rocketry, you'll need to know the basics. This video shows how to put on a simple glue fillet along the root edge of the fins using wood glue. This provides sufficient amount of glue for the average flight that you'll make with your rockets.
In model rocketry, applying glue fillets to the root edges of fins is a crucial step that serves several purposes. Here are the reasons why it's important:
    1. Structural integrity: Glue fillets help to create a strong bond between the fin and the body tube. The fillet reinforces the joint, ensuring that the fin remains securely attached to the rocket, even under the stresses of launch and flight.
    2. Prevents fin flutter: During flight, the fins can experience flutter, which can cause them to oscillate or vibrate. A strong glue fillet helps to dampen these oscillations, reducing the risk of fin failure or loss of stability.
    3. Enhances aerodynamics: A smooth, rounded fillet can help to reduce aerodynamic drag and turbulence around the fin root, which can improve the overall performance and stability of the rocket.

For smaller rockets (bt 50 or smaller) I use a thin guitar pick to spread the fillet since the space is a bit tighter. The glue doesn’t stick to plastic or nylon picks, so they can get wiped off and used for for music 😎

I just use y finger for spreading glue, messy, but I think that I should switch to using the curved end of an ice-cream stick. By the way, the rocket is awesome, just checked it out on the website

As a young’in I used Elmers white glue and only did fillets on adjacent fin roots, being concerned about the glue flowing as it dried. Took several days. Lost some fins but they always took the body tube outer wrap to the edge of the filet.

Interior glue shouldn’t be a problem as long as you paint the model.

Paint doesn't have any strength, unfortunately. It can cover up cracks, but I wouldn't count on it to keep the fins attached to the rocket.

It is the Grappler kit from our website.
