  • Which eyewear keeps you safest in the lab? C&EN carried out some splash tests to find out. ↓↓More info and references below↓↓
Scientists have a plethora of choices when it comes to protective eyewear. But which lab specs actually keep your eyes safe from splashes in the lab? In this episode of Speaking of Chemistry, C&EN tests a few of the options that chemists have at their disposal. Plus, if you have ideas for other lab products you’d like to see us compare, let us know in the comments! We might feature them in a future video.
Note: This video was filmed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

... and then you didn't show the ones that most high schools in the US use... They are there, with the vents open the way students often try to put them. I was really curious how much paint would sneak in with them flipped open versus the way they are supposed to be. Maybe I'll have to set it up myself. Great video though.

Just wear swimming goggles, if they work underwater, pretty sure they will be splash proof too

Swim goggles might keep a splash of pool water out of your eyes, but they're not designed to protect against the kind of chemical splashes or impacts you might encounter in a lab. Safety standards for chemical splash goggles are regulated through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
