Yes, the studio thought the american ppl wouldn't accept him as an american husband. They had to fight for him, and they won big time. Ricky and Lucy, ahead of their time. They really were the epitome of America then. I feel we've gone backward in time. Ricky was the start, but so was Lucy that is why it worked and is still so good. Jean K That was the first time an American TV show featured an interracial marriage. Today, interracial marriage is relatively common, and the overwhelming majority of Americans support it.
So what you're saying is...he could have carried the show the same way Lucy did? If you switch the characters around, It doesn't work nearly as well as it worked with her playing the clown. He's funny but he couldn't pull off the physical comedy the way she did.

The cast of this show were absolute pros if they were able to memorize their lines perfectly without fucking it up, and improvising if something did get flubbed since they weren’t allowed to do retakes. Retakes on this show were extremely rare since it was shot on film and cost a fortune. There’s a couple of little “bloopers,” one of which has Desi messing up his line and laughing at himself about it. I love how natural it is. Nowadays it’s take after take after take until it’s perfect.
At first I'd feel sorry for Ricky but the more I watch I realize he actually likes her craziness, throwing tantrums and acting like a child so now I just laugh lol
Ricky never would have been unfaithful to Lucy. I have a feeling that Desi was basically a good person, too, but for some reason he just couldn't help chasing after other women. It's so sad.
