Sometimes the next coil out of your off hand can cause the rope to figure 8 as well if not fed right into the loop. Having a softer rope is the first step but not the end all neither.
This video needs to be renamed "why you need to soften a rope," because that's what it's really about. The actual "how-to" tips could have been 10-15 seconds, instead of having to listen to that automated voice repeating itself over and over for three minutes.

I don't think parachute cord or climbing rope is supposed to be used for lariat, lasso, or reata roping.
