Thank you . The red layer is the oxide layer of copper. I've heated it up to make a copper oxide like that.

Does the oxide then turn green or stay that bright red over time?

The color of the oxide layer depends on the time and temperature we heat it. Like how to heat blue hands on steel. I also have a video , you can watch it .
