I am a Southeast Asian, and in my second year of college and not once did my teachers mention the history of that word. I'm gonna comment based on my own experience English is not my native language but I studied it in an north american institute in my country The thing is while I was a student there never, not even once I was talked about the n word, so being fluent at English doesn't mean knowing everything related to it First I read the n word in memes and I had no idea it was a slur I thought it was just slang, it took me some time to learn about its real meaning thanks to online content So there might be a chance Ahyeon really didn't know saying that word was wrong, I mean I do think she needs to apologize, but it's unnecessary to hate on her or call her a racist. Ahyeon is korean but apparently she is fluent in English and knows the basics at least. So she must know that saying that n-word would bring controversy as they are in the spotlight rn and there have been many other controversies surrounding this issue. As an international star, she has foreign fans who may get offended. So she has to apologise asap and be held accountable for her actions.
