Ive never told this story to a public forum before, but as I've been learning more and more about disappearances in smoky mountain NP I can't help but put this comment up to see if anybody has had a similar strange experience. In late september 2015 I decided to hike the mountains to sea trail. I started out at clingmans dome and hiked roughly 10 miles or so until I got to my back country campsite. I saw maybe 2 people the whole day I was hiking so you can imagine my terror when long after dark I'm laying in my tent trying to sleep and somebody comes into my camp. He had a French accent and sounded maybe in his 20s or 30s. He kept shining his light on my tent asking if anybody was there. He hung around my camp and left after about 5 minutes would be my guess but time is different when your heart is beating out of your chest. I never answered as I was a solo 23 year old female and even 8 years later I can't say I'd respond. I'd prefer they not know if I was male or female. Anyways after he left I finally fell asleep hours later. But it got my mind racing. If he was lost wouldn't he say hey I'm lost I don't know where I am and would sound panicky in some way but his voice seemed steady and calm. And if meant me harm would he not have tried to open the tent or something?? Part of my wonders if I encountered a ghost that night as I know there was a large French presence in that area in centuries passed plus clingmans dome is in sevier county after all, a French name. I hiked for over a month before all the creeks started freezing up and never heard about him or ran into a French guy at any point. But all these years later I still get the chills thinking about it and knowing all the creepy stories of disappearances have me wondering even more.
Hi Donnie. I live in middle TN but have always been drawn to East TN and the Smokie Mtns. I've have spent a lot of time there and feel a kinship to the area. I am intrigued by the mention of Green Beret presence in connection with these disappearances and "wild men". I have noticed what seems to be clearings in the woods when passing through New Found Gap but have been unable to reconcile these areas with towns or communities using maps and now Google Earth. Can you offer any explanations or input?
When I was 12-13 or so, we had a kid who probably spawned a wild man story or two, his grandmother, who occasionally he would come to see, was dirt poor, had a railroad shack, nothing else, barely stayed alive, so he took off for the mountains young, never attended school that I know of, he was the kid parents mistakenly told their kids to avoid, which, kids being kids, meant the opposite. He was 2 or 3 years older, taller and stronger than me and never spoke a word that I know of but he never hurt a soul. I was out drowning worms one day and there he was, we nodded and he just watched for a while, then went back into the woods. I saw him several more times afterward and one day tossed him a spare pocket knife I had...the look on his face was shock, he opened it, closed it, offered it back and when I shook my head and showed him my other one, he sort of smiled, pocketed it and went on his way. I heard stories about him roaming the hills and valleys but never anything bad, I just knew he could disappear into the woods like smoke. I doubt he had a long life but I'd say it was a good one. RIP Smitty, wherever you are.
@@Krakkokayne Surely he seriously used the knife. A knife is a very useful tool. I carry one every day. I carry a pistol too but that's still just a tool. It's all in how you use it

Hey Donnie I really enjoy your old stories on the appalachians. I'm from the central appalachians in Western MD and was wondering if you had heard the story of the lost children of the alleghanies? Allison Krauss wrote a song about titled Jacob's Dream. Two children left their mothers side and wandered into the forest in Bedford County Pennsylvania. There is a memorial dedicated to them in blue knob state park.
On Hwy 40 just east of Knoxville, I stopped to get gas. I went in to pay. and I had one question. Where can I get a room for the night. They told me there was nothing for a hundred miles, ",right outside of Knoxville! " They said there's a motel down that gravel road. I didn't believe that. So I said I wasn't intrested. Then it grew perks, the man said "you can get anything you want down there. girls, drugs, ect." I told him all I wanted was a good night's sleep, paid and left. About 2 miles down the road my tire went flat. I smelled a rat. I armed myself and changed my tire. Nothing eventful. The next day when I got to New Bern NC. I had the tire repaired. The valve core was missing. If I would have went down that gravel road I probably would not be here to write this. I wonder how many people went down that road, and how big the pile of bones is?
Excellent Donnie, Dennis Martin 14th June 1969 is 411 missing case I have followed a great deal over the years with no answers really until now because of your fantastic research, I think unfortunately Dennis was taken by wild man and the Greenberets shot him dead and all others they could and it was decided not to say anything to the Father/ family or public... Dennis Martin would be my age now... RIP Dennis 🙏...
I think your spot on my friend. The truth will never be told to the public, But there is a lot more going in these mountains to that no one knows about. Thanks for the comment my friend.

I never go into my own backyard without a pistol or revolver here in East Texas. Wild hogs, venomous snakes, stray dog packs and coyotes live here too. Can't imagine going into that wilderness without a weapon.
Dave says, always carry a personal beacon locator on you ,when going into the forest . I was only 3 when that happened. I could not imagine, having a child get lost like that . He was only 6 .A 6 year old could not get that far .
I was born and raised in the southern WV run of the appalachias, it was different when I was a youngn, you stayed out till ya played out, and the majority of that time was spent roamin the ridges and campin in the hollars, there's sights and sounds in these hills that'll make even the most "new age and atheistic" wanna get to know God and cling to Him, real fast
Poor little Dennis. Most every year of our lives my parents took us back to the Smokies. I remember how scary some places were in the mountains, a child could get lost very easily. Looking down the side of the mountain from the back window was a little scary all by itself! I believe in what people call Bigfoot, and many other beasts. I saw they movie about Bigfoot as a kid in the 70's. When they flashed to Bigfoot in the bathroom scene, i jumped up from my seat and grabbed the head of the longhaired dude in front of me; he had on a pair of rubber flipflops on and twisted his ankle when he jumped up to run! It set off a chain reaction of bad mishaps.😂 People laughed that Bigfoot wasn't real. But I kept it in back of my mind all those years, waiting on someone and listening to every pic, every sighting and story. I still believe. Thank you my friend! I'm a little late seeing it, but enjoyed it just the same. Lord bless and keep you and your family ❤🙏
The thing that’s just so strange is how so many of these people that disappear in these National Parks is the fact that many of them are super experienced hikers. Some of them have hiked the entire Appalachian trail more than once and some of them have been experienced climbers who have visited many of the nation’s national parks as well as some in other countries. Most are not just novice hikers that got off the trail, got turned around, and managed to get lost. Some of the kids that have disappeared in David Paulides 411 Missing books were found but where they were found defies logic. There are a couple of cases where they were toddlers and they were found 8 to 10 miles away and weren’t found for several days. Based on what they had to walk through to get where they were doesn’t make sense as there is no way a toddler could walk that far in a month let alone 2 or 3 days. Some of them don’t have a scratch on them and they don’t appear to be extremely dehydrated or anything. 😳 There was a case of a missing 3 year old child that was playing in a deep wooded area at his grandparents house while his grandmother was watching him. He had 2 of his grandparents dogs with him too. When she looked away for a second she heard him scream and ran to get him and he was just gone and so were the dogs. He was found 8 miles away and would have had to go through several areas of barbed wire fences and some extremely dense forested areas to get there and they found him perfectly fine, clean, and with no scratches. They even found there were no tears in his clothes which wouldn’t be possible if he crawled under barbed wire. They also found his jacket folded up next to him when they found him. What’s even crazier was the family’s 2 dogs were never found. Anyone who has dogs knows that just doesn’t happen. Some of the adults and children that are lucky enough to be found have no recollection as to how they got where they did and some of the children don’t either or say the creepiest things and describe strange creatures that either lured them into the forest or actually took them, but protected them. These stories are but just a few where they can’t understand how they got lost or where they ended up when found. Some of these stories sound more as if it’s some kind of paranormal activity, or who knows, maybe aliens have portals to other dimensions deep in the forest. Crazy I know, but there are soooo many of these disappearances they just cannot be explained that it is crazy.😳 I’m sure that’s why David Paulides started investigating these cases because no one was really aware of this happening or how it is happening to so many people over the last few years.
In the FoxFire books, these large, hairy people are spoken of. People have seen them up close and described them. These are stories of sightings from years ago.
I've been to Pennsylvania and New York of the Appalachia mountains. I didn't start reading about them until I got back home but I have to say these mountains are very beautiful yet creepy. Its no wonder bigfoot Apparel is being sold alot.
When the green beret troops came in, they happened to be training just a few miles away. Like you said, they ran their own show. They were on an unofficial mission to answer the question of bipedal sightings. They weren’t sure if it was Bigfoot or a feral human. They searched a few days and then they were gone. 2 went insane and 27 were discharged. NDA’s for everyone.
@@donnielaws7020 I’m sorry. The first is all true. The last 3 sentences are bunk. But I enjoyed the video. I’m Dennis’ age and I think I about the life I’ve lived since 1969. Thinking that he was killed then is too much for me.
hello again Donnie just want to tell you that a lot of your stories have a lot of truth in them.I will explain why I know much about things you speak of I grew up in S E Wva as I had spoke of in some of your post. So to let you know why I know many of these things I will tell you. As I have said my granddaughter’s family is From E Tennessee area some from theJohnson City area on her grand dads side it was Johnson’s andLawson’s she is a cousin to Doyle Lawson Of bluegrass band Quick silver. On her grandmas side was from Conway from Tennessee and N C side. Her cousin on that side Is Eustace Conway from Nat Geo mountain men.So I learned a lot about the Smokies. I moved to Ohio out of school for there was little work other than coal mines or timber which I done both for a short time. I have lived south of Cleveland most of my adult life but we always go back home as often as we can. A few years back we bought some acres of land about 125 miles of Cleveland. At night you can hear the Coyotes how. But there is something in those woods I am surrounded by farms way off in the distances and more than 56,000 thousand acres of public land. At night it can get quite eerie the coyotes become silent you get a feeling you are being watched I have heard tree thumping many of times the night skies are some times very dark some times after 2:00 am or so they can become very light almost like you could be in Alaska but my point is there’s truly things out there in the Wilderness. Some have been seen and some may never be seen about people disappearing well that is very true. I my self have seen thing’s I can not explain noise can get loud in the dark of night. I think now you will know I for one believe many of your post. For so much of them are true. Take care my friend and keep up good work on true History because what you tell for the most is very true unexplained.
I know this video is 3 yrs old but at 6:44 i can see a little face at the right edge of the fire looking straight at the camera. It's probably just paradolia, but all the same, it looks like a face 😁.
I know Susan. I went to school with her sister. They lived across the street from me ! It's a small world and a vast mountain range ! That was a weird situation.
We've been going to the Smokies since I've been on this planet. We are from Alabama and I do not understand how someone to get off the trails. I'll never get it. Because there are plenty of warnings. It's beautiful up there my grown child lives about 45 min away from pigeon forge
This story kind of reminds me about one about a skinwalker story that my friend told me about his mom who lives in Arizona and one time she was driving pasts some forest and she saw a coyote that turned into a man and started speaking in another language and suddenly a monsoon started coming at the same time. She got really spooked and drove away, and said she had a deja vu moment like in the Matrix when she spotted the coyote.
We can never under estimate the great mysteries of our Earth. Donnie is a great “ teller” of these mysteries. David Paulides was a policeman - specialized in investigations. Thank you for your great story !
I feel sorry for the people that strangely disappeared and vanished with no explanation that is a scary feeling not knowing how or where they went or can't explain how they disappeared and vanished without a trace
A ginseng hunter walked up on Dennis' skull, shoe and sock in the early 1970s - downhill a few miles from Spence Field. But he didn't report it till years later, so they couldn't find the location again. So Dennis' remains were actually "found", just not proven. He probably got confused in the woods and kept walking downhill until he died from exposure.
The pacific coast trail has a lot of disappearances and sightings also. love watching these type of shows. thank you!!!

Wow. Thanks for sharing my friend.
now thats a story!
I hope he at least lived peacefully and never had to seriously use the knife, R.I.P.
@@Krakkokayne Surely he seriously used the knife. A knife is a very useful tool. I carry one every day. I carry a pistol too but that's still just a tool. It's all in how you use it
Great story. Thank you
I live about 30 minutes from one of the most beautiful national parks in MT. Glacier Nat'l Park has some mysteries too, but I have always wanted to visit the Great Smokies, omg the beauty! I'm a 411 believer & Dave's research on this area is 🤯! Love your video! ❤

Awesome! Thanks for sharing my friend.
On Hwy 40 just east of Knoxville, I stopped to get gas. I went in to pay. and I had one question. Where can I get a room for the night. They told me there was nothing for a hundred miles, ",right outside of Knoxville! "
They said there's a motel down that gravel road. I didn't believe that. So I said I wasn't intrested. Then it grew perks, the man said "you can get anything you want down there.
girls, drugs, ect."
I told him all I wanted was a good night's sleep, paid and left.
Strange for sure. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Wow.
OMG😳
If your valve core was removed you would have noticed immediately, not two miles down the road.
@@fredcloud9668 Not if you took it out and then just screwed it in a few threads.
Near where I live there are many strange disappearances also Jamestown/Sonora Ca. Thank you for the video.

Thank you Donnie I love hearing about the smoky mountains I don't know if I would be brave enough to take a hike there ! it's highly unlikely as I live in England lol!.

Pretty creepy to know that their bodies are somewhere in the mountains well skeletons just laying there waiting to be found!! Great video!!!
Yes it is. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Not likely, due to bears etc. Someone may find a bone or two someday, but nature reverts us all to the earth, one way or another.
Love this missing video.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dave says, always carry a personal beacon locator on you ,when going into the forest .
I was only 3 when that happened. I could not imagine, having a child get lost like that . He was only 6 .A 6 year old could not get that far .
Great advice. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Wow , I like this channel , it's alsome

I was born and raised in the southern WV run of the appalachias, it was different when I was a youngn, you stayed out till ya played out, and the majority of that time was spent roamin the ridges and campin in the hollars, there's sights and sounds in these hills that'll make even the most "new age and atheistic" wanna get to know God and cling to Him, real fast
Amen my friend. Thanks for sharing this. God bless you.
I once read that roughly half of visitors to Gatlinburg never even go to the actual Smokies. How sad is that?
That's so true my friend. Thanks for sharing this.
It set off a chain reaction of bad mishaps.😂
People laughed that Bigfoot wasn't real. But I kept it in back of my mind all those years, waiting on someone and listening to every pic, every sighting and story. I still believe.
Thank you my friend! I'm a little late seeing it, but enjoyed it just the same. Lord bless and keep you and your family ❤🙏
WOW Thanks so much for sharing this my friend. I understand . God bless you. Thanks for sharing your memories. Your very welcome.
Donnie this is spooky I believe there is big foot in the mountains .❤
There was a case of a missing 3 year old child that was playing in a deep wooded area at his grandparents house while his grandmother was watching him. Crazy I know, but there are soooo many of these disappearances they just cannot be explained that it is crazy.😳
I’m sure that’s why David Paulides started investigating these cases because no one was really aware of this happening or how it is happening to so many people over the last few years.
Great reading friend. There is a lot of unexplained and strange things out there to say the least. Thanks for sharing.
Sinkholes could explain some of these. People fall into one and dogs can not follow scent, They die from the fall, drowning or starvation,
That's true my friend. A real possibility. Thanks for the comment.
Sinkhole in the mountains? Thinks that’s only In Swamp areas
Even if that was the case you would think that the dogs would at least follow the sent to the sinkhole!
An old Norwegian saying: The owls are in the moss. Means something isn’t correct or making sense. Missing 411 cases are strange.
Thanks for sharing this my friend.

Mysterious
Yes it is my friend.
WOW Thanks so much for sharing this my friend.
Great story my friend. Thanks for sharing this. God bless you.
I know this video is 3 yrs old but at 6:44 i can see a little face at the right edge of the fire looking straight at the camera. It's probably just paradolia, but all the same, it looks like a face 😁.

I've heard that to my friend. Thanks so much for sharing.
