I just wanted to say how Thankful I am for this ... I found this sort of by accident but as soon as I saw it, I *KNEW* ... my Grandmother & Mother were from Poland, and my Grandmother was not opposed to canned soup every once in a while, but also made her own ... and my favorite since childhood was something I just called, what I believe basically translates to straight-up "Grandmother's Soup" ... and I never once even asked what it was, she would set it down , from 6yrs old to 26yds old ... and I ate. When she passed (I was a little less than 27?) - I never thought about it until my Mom passed years later, and I realized- I not only asked what it was, I didn't know the name, but I also couldn't even describe it ... every time I tried, I made a fool of myself ... "Uhh... it was like, yellow... I think there was potatoes & carrots... and she'd put a Bay Leaf in each bowl and admonish me not to eat it..." - and every time someone showed me a Polish soup, it would *not* be right. *THIS* IS IT .... I'm so excited! I'm trying this as soon as the sun comes up today! Thank you very much!
Chicken wings used to be the cheapest parts to buy to make stock. Then the world discovered BBQ Wings and now they cost the same as other parts. Babcia always said wings were the sweetest meat.
Cześć! I'm happy I found your channel!🥰 My husband and his brother lost their Mama & Tata in a horrific domestic tragedy over a year ago (their mom was killed). 😭 Their mom did not teach their sons how to cook. The mom taught me only a few Polish recipes when she was feeling well. I wanted to learn more from her, so I can make my husband's traditional Polish foods he likes. I'm soooooooooo happy to have found your channel! I'm definitely going to make some recipes to help comfort my husband and his brother during their grieving. The rest of their family is in 🇵🇱 Poland. They don't have any family here to learn from, or take comfort with, especially during the holidays. Well I'm trying my best to help them heal, and to have some good Polish food, especially around the holidays, when they miss their mom the most, as well as her Polish Soul Food. Dzięki :-) dzięki
Thank you for your story. Half the reason that I started doing this was to share my family food, and hear stories from others that have a strong family connection through food traditions. Thanks for watching!
Czesc, jak sie masz!! Wow just discovered your channel!! So nice to see a nice lady sharing some Polish recipes!!! My great grand parents were Polish and Lithuanian. I visited Poland a couple of years ago and some other Eastern Europe country's on tour for my 50th birthday ( actually had a date in Warsaw )!!! You bring back some fond memories of Polish cooking for me. And I actually made some nadziewana kapusta years ago from moms recipe ( God rest her soul ). Thank you. POLSKI 1 !!!! And thanks to 'Google Translate'" too!!!! Do widzenia ;)
Thank you for this recipe - I can't wait to make the soup. I grew up in a Polish home and we seemed to have soup every other day. When my mother made chicken soup, she always used chicken wings as she felt that's what gave the soup the most flavor. It's interesting that the name of this soup is Krupnik and the honey, spiced vodka we drink at Wigilia is also named Krupnik.
Years ago my best friend's Mother would visit his family for the holidays. She was born in Poland and lived in a suburb of Detroit. I was fortunate to be invited to his home and enjoy her wonderful recipes. Thank you for sharing. Your potato pancake recipe is fantastic and I am going to try more from your channel.
I am astatic i found your channel,my grandmother was polish she passed away and dont have her food anymore. We only really eat polish food at waglia, cannot wait to make somethings from you from this channel. Thank u!
They say marry a Polish woman. My Dad, all Polish was well known for is cabbage rolls in our community. The potato dumplings, potato pancakes were heaven to me too. Not much of a cook, single, am going to make your healthy soup. Thanks!
I love barley. Beef barley soup is always a special treat when I have leftover short ribs, but I've never done it with chicken. Change is definitely in the air for tonight! Thanks!
I had this delicious alternative to the ubiquitous chicken noodle soup in about an hour. I used boxed stock & a couple frozen breasts, added some mushrooms that needed to be used and a splash of white wine. Yummy way to await the promised thaw in frigid Texas.
Making this soup on a cold damp day in Nova Scotia. Love barley. I love pottery from Poland . I have a tea pot and two mugs from Poland…so beautiful. Do you live near the factory where they make Polish pottery? Thanks for the recipe idea for soup. I love soup.
Hi Debbie, we live in Szczecin which is about 3 hours north of the town of Bolesławiec where most of the Polish Pottery is made. We hope to go some day and film it for you all. Thanks for watching!
Jest Pani jedną z nielicznych kierowców, które przepraszają jeśli komuś wyjadą na drodze. Odcinek jak zawsze fantastyczny, chociaż i tak czekam na ulubione piątkowe :) Pozdrowienia!
Oh yum yum. I have to make it in the week. I made your herring today from last week coz we love you too much and you're the best. Barley is delicious anyways. Strangely enough it tastes not so good in Swedish food but it tastes amazing in Polish food.. ❤️
Soup looks great but I am wondering if you have a special kind of barley because barley usually needs much longer time to cook. In fact I checked my package and it says 45 minutes. Love your channel and we watch all the episodes!
When my mom did not have any idea what to make for dinner I would always give her the same answer:krupnik. I always liked it. But I think you forgot onion. You got to add onion.
I had the same question - was wondering about buckwheat or gluten free pinhead oats or GF oatmeal but hadn’t thought of quinoa! Thank you. I sub GF oats for rye in Zurek and it always comes out like I remember the rye version to be.
@@jacekg.5379 good one, I should explain, in our family the whole ones we refer to as "Groats" the broken ones we refer to a "goats." My family has a whole strange/different way of referring to things.
Agh! I'm having bad childhood flashbacks! My mom made this and I hated it and of course I was forced to eat it. She wasn't a very good cook so it wasn't seasoned. I haven't eaten barley since lol
impossible!!! Hahahaha .....potatoes ready in 15 min.....think our potatoes are made of rocks because they take about 45 min to get soft. What type of tatoes do you use?

We usually do a beef barley soup, but I will have to try the chicken version. Have a blessed day and week!
I love Polish food, soups are always great. I'll make this one. Love you guys and your channel!
I made this tonight and it was fantastic - thanks so much for posting this. It's a great soup too if you're feeling a bit under the weather - yummy!

My husbands favorite soup is Czarnina made with duck and prunes. Mine is dill pickle and cabbage. Your soup looks delicious.
My husband loves Czarina, too! His bucia (sp?) , Polish Grandma, used to make it. I tasted it once...yuck...lol. This soup, here, looks great!
“Don’t laugh at my jokes!” LOL you two are funny! Great info! Can’t wait to try this!

Very nice easy steps
More snow in the forecast this week...lucky me I have the necessary ingredients for this yummy soup🤗
Looks delicious and seems easy to prepare, unlike zurek...more steps but my favorite. Will try😋 Thanks for the recipe!
Looks delicious. Can't wait to get my hands on some barley.
Looks very delicious, well done!
Thank you so much 👍
I will make it today, I have everything 👍👍⚘

I make Krupnik on turkey neck, not on chicken. Will try chicken next time. Great idea.
Always make it with our leftover turkey bones from Thanksgiving.
@@Mary-ck2zl me too, there is also the neck that comes with the turkey so I add it as well and then scrape the meat and add to the soup.
Good idea!
Will definently try this soup 😀
Looks delicious
Thank you 😋

That's really long... I'm using pear barley, in Polish "jęczmienna".
Do you have a recipe for pomidorowa zupa???
Yes, please refer to SOUPS section of the RECIPE INDEX on polishyourkitchen.com :)
👍👍👍👍
Are those russet potatoes or white (boiling) potatoes?
Russets are on a dry side, I prefer a more waxy potato, like the red... but use whatever you have.

what does parsley rooy look like
One may use a "parsnip" which looks like a white carrot.
Yes, what UncleAI3 said, it looks like a white carrot.
Since I can't eat gluten, I'm going to try this with Buckwheat Goats, instead of Barley.
Or quinoa perhaps?
Did you mean Buckwheat Groats, instead of Goats...?😂
I had the same question - was wondering about buckwheat or gluten free pinhead oats or GF oatmeal but hadn’t thought of quinoa! Thank you. I sub GF oats for rye in Zurek and it always comes out like I remember the rye version to be.
