I have been hearing about how various companies have " finally learned their lesson" for over 20 years now. I'm not going to pretend I have anything close to the the knowledge you have about the industry but I done 6 the shareholders are the ones who decide in what direction the future of the corporation will take ,Usually through manipulation of other holders to get them onto the board of directors where they then systematically replace anyone who doesn't follow their vision for the future.

Honestly I think they've sensibly decided that virtue signalling right after the ogl disaster would just invite more backlash. I hate what they did, but what I hate more is when they tried to take the moral high ground directly afterwards - I can understand the power grab, can't stomach the hypocrisy.
Now is the time for them to come hat in hand and try to be the best friend of the playerbase.

They released one adventure for Keys from the Golden Vault for free to DnD Beyond members, no subscription required, called Prisoner 13 where you have to drag info out of the title character after breaking into prison. I scouted it and either they did tone it down (two of the three "main" NPCs are women but doesn't mention anything beyond that) or they cherry picked the adventure that's "least offensive". There is an "optimal" path it suggests for the characters but presents side options the party has to "think" of. The organization that ties these together, the titular Golden Vault, disapproves of one the most obvious means of securing the item, so a lot is going to depend on how this Golden Vault is written out, but it seems like you're less thieves and more secret agents.
Again Prisoner 13 doesn't seem TOO bad but even before this video I suspect this might have been chosen as the "least controversial" adventure of the bunch.
My opinion is that WotC executives firmly believe their majority market to be the Wokists who's idea of D&D is little more than a children's adventure story, where your "Oh so radical" bisexual Draconic/Halfling character can be an invincible Paladin. A simple romp through a fantasy world where you don't have to think, the outcome is never in doubt and the biggest danger you'll face is getting the inn keeper's pronoun wrong.
Setting and lore don't even register because the WotC staff writers and modern players think D&D started with 5e and so long as the plot (if there is one) is diverse and inclusive, people will be happy. The Sparkle Trolls of Twitter, gatekeep new players and feed the lie that early edition and retro clone OSR games are only for rabid homophobes and racists, so you must be a Nazi if you even THINK of playing one.
From the Hasbro/WotC viewpoint, releasing SRD 5.1 to CC whilst still not making the OGL 'Irrevocable', is a clever move. It means that when/if they do manage to revoke it, only the Woke 5e garbage will remain as a TTRPG, alongside their walled garden video game of 6e. They can then bury all early edition stuff and pretend it never existed, also ensuring that third party creators must drop all reference to D&D in their clone products.
I sense Hasbro/WotC see everything with their branding, prior to 5e as being an anchor they wish to cut and the future as being youngsters with a digital mentality and such a desire to fit in with their peer group, they'll accept micro-transactions for every single thing, rather than risk humiliation.
I heard they basically weren't mentioning the book at all, and I have a feeling the woke advertising is simply not there because no advertising is supposed to be done. It's more about not associating the book in customers' minds while they're angry, maybe in six months they'll buy it because they didn't declare they'll never buy it right now as it flies under the radar.
The problem with the woke excuse was twofold: first, it isn't 2018 anymore, RUclipsrs would have been terrified to dismiss this five years ago and now they're not, and second their whole, real customer base was angry and as we always see most people aren't woke. Normally fake drama on Twitter is 95% woke people, but this wasn't fake, this was genuinely enraged normies who actually play roleplaying games.
They've been advertising it for the last several days.
I won't go back to Wizards until they 1. sincerely apologize for all the political nonsense and 2. start putting out products of a similar price point and quality as the OSR stuff I've been thoroughly enjoying over the past few months.

I had to de-woke Tomb of Annihilation before I DM'ed it. Thats the last D&D campaign i'll run unless there is some drastic change.

@@docnecrotic Tossed out the side quest to rescue some dudes husband. Made more NPCs male since there was an overabundance of female NPCs(usually the strong brave ones). I ran a Maztica campaign back in the day so my version of Port Nyanzaru was less utopian. When the Amnites pulled out and the Chult people took over the city doesn't run as orderly, more savage and less utopian. Changed the leader of Camp Vengeance to female because I am fatigued with the woke trope of inept male leaders being cruel and incapable of running command. Her turn. Changed the Commander of Fort Beluarian to Lord Portyr. Its been a couple years but off the top of my head thats mostly it.
@@curseofyig6727 Doing a few similar things with my upcoming Acquistions Incorporated, Orrey of the Wanderer champaign (James, Kevin, Sean, Joey; on the off chance you're reading this stop now).
One set of guards in the first dungeon has a strong competent woman and scrawny cowardly man, instead of swapping roles I added a second male guard who'd be the brains of the group because the primary purpose is "If some got her it must be strong, if it caught him it must be fast" and now a "if it trapped him it must be smart" in order to balance things out and really get my players to go "Yup, we're all gonna die". I'm also changing two non-binary NPC to be male (he looks like Mr. T so I play him like Mr. T, and I pity the fool who tries to stop me) and the other just goes extreme lengths to hide their sex and the rest of their identity because they are a spy (basically adding his or her sex to part of the THAT GUY meme of a dark brooding idiot).
That's all I'm really changing (other than adding some homebrew NPCs and potential side quests) because I don't want to risk losing the humorous stuff involved in an Acq. Inc campaign.

The true problem with the new ogl was the part about content ownership.
Royalties would've been annoying (and maybe short-sighted) but reasonable demand for profiting off their ip.

You're right, and I'm glad anyone at all is talking about this. All WotC has done is say they won't try and trash the old OGL right now. Unless and until WotC releases an official statement declaring that they have zero legal right to screw with the old OGL and never did, I'll never buy or play anything WotC produces, publishes, or otherwise profits from.
I agree with You 100%. If people just showed some backbone and stuck To their guns Things would be very different. To an extent I was guilty of the mindset you mentioned , I was purchasing every book when they came out Primarily because they were reprints of older material. For example Van rickton's guide to raven loft.
I reached a point where I stopped buying any of the material, basically right after Tasha came out. Tasha proved what they were going to and moving To, And That is also when they started reprinting material To remove offensive stuff such as a woman re growing her limb or the line about orcs.
Since then I cleaned out a chunk of my 5th edition collection , Don't eating them to someone who wanted them. I kept as the last book Tasha because I thought it was a nice book and, I have everything from original Dungeons & Dragons and for every edition I have at least the core 3 books. So this was my attempt to put a book End. The collection starts with that beautiful wood Box edition reprint of original Dungeons & Dragons, continues through the rules cyclopedia, End ends with 5th Edition Tasha.
As for whether or not they've learned their lesson, no they haven't. Hasbro isn't going to give up they want this to be something that they can monetize and make steady revenue streams on just like their board games. At best they've told them to keep their mouths shut until after the movie comes out and most likely the movie is going to be the make or break it for what has bro does to Wizards of the Coast.
There will be 3 options . Hasbro will either allow things to continue the course, and they will Continue to put woke material into everything they do and virtue signal online. Option 2 Would be if the Movie is successful enough, they may go with what an activist investor is asking and spin wizards off into its own company period from a stock perspective that would raise the stock on Hasbro as well as put wizards as its owns stock item. The 3rd option Is if the movie bombs, Hasbro may look to liquidate Wizards of the Coast, shelve all of the IP, and from this point onward it's going to be board games and crappy toys

No I didn't. The Old School Companion, the original one, is in my links in the description, and it has Gold Bestseller status. It's not an adventure book (that's #2), it's full of Medieval Authentic resources, including critical tables, classes, stuff on aristocracy and merchants, magic and grimoires, elves, and more.
As for #3, it will be the next compilation volume from Spectre Press, but it won't likely come out until some time in 2024.

I thought (and I've been playing since 2e) that players are supposed to get punished for going into combat. I'm kidding, but back in the day you used to try to talk your way out of fights, you know role play, because fighting was deadly. I remember my first character a fire elementalist magic user (aka wizard, but we couldn't call them wizards). In his first fight used the only (at the time) first level fire spell (burning hands) and the fighter then hit him for 12 points of damage. Instant -10 (yes I had 2 hp. I was a magic user and I rolled a 2 for hp). I still don't like burning hands to this day, I also homebrewed a spell with my dm so I had a ranged fire spell. It's a lot like chromatic orb.
The problem is that WotC writers want to punish people who act heroically by fighting evil.

I bought several weeks ago Rime of the Frostmaiden after a 15 year break from RPGs. Jesus was I surprised but not in a good way! The book was filled tot the brink with insufferable identity politics. Only good thing was the art of the landscape. My suggestion: Don´t buy stuff like this.
