I'm glad I got in when I did and never messed around with DRT. To each there own. Keep up the great videos, I enjoy you showing different trees and different situations. I've been in business for myself for 3 years and I've learned a ton by watching your videos.
Again thank you for the knowledge you are willing to share with us home owners that do our own tree maintenance. I made my first purchase from tree stuff can't say enough good things about them. I was told that the Sycamore is a very hard wood, don't know we don't have them in my area.

I think this is the ideal scenario for the battery extendable polechainsaw Patrick (EducatedClimber) was using in his recent production. Would've given it a battery longevity test for sure....

Today is an errand day for me. No trees. So I headed to McDonalds where I parked next to a 3/4 ton truck. The sticker on the truck said, Old Guys Rule. In a recent video you said, No old man jokes. So I thought of you. (-:
Over here, we recognise sycamore, maple, plane and Japanese acers all as distinctly different types of acer. It's not the only tree with different names on each side of the Pond. One which comes to mind, and which is even more confusing to people, is the Norway spruce, which you might know as Oregon pine. It all adds variety to life.
Hi Blair, the names are confusing, in Germany we call them Platane(n). Nice shots with the moon, I like it. Btw. do you remember what the shipping fee was for sending the stoker stick to Italy?
Yep a London plane (sycamore) has nearly made me throw up coughing on a couple of occasions. I think it would cause too much confusion calling a London plane by it’s correct name in the uk now. Very informative information though.
Sometimes you comment that certain tress are not good trees for Santa Clara valley. We will have to plant two 24" box trees according to our permit to replace the liquid amber and cedar tress that are dying. We live in Sunnyvale and I have two questions. Where should we go to purchase our box trees? We don't want a large bonsai. Is a Sycamore appropriate for my back yard?
As the owner of a sycamore that is about the same size of the one in this video, I would vote against it. The leaves make a HUGE mess in December when they fall off. They fall into every bush/tree/shrub and get stuck in the foliage or under the base of the plants and it takes me several days to clean them all up. I actually really like the leaves from my other deciduous trees (Chinese Elm, Black walnut) because they make a nice natural mulch, but the Sycamore just makes a big fugly mess when it sheds them.
Sycamore trees aren't too common here, though I have seen a few of them. They aren't anywhere near that tall though. Always enjoy seeing the job being done.
obs ford diesels inc. I took down a mega sycamore out here in central jersey. I could not believe the size of it. I climb SRT with a 200ft blue moon and it was tail to tail at ground level. It was an amazing tree
Hi, I just saw one of your videos where you mentioned how you have observed that larger potted trees do not do as well when planted in the ground as the smaller potted trees that are planted into the ground. Why is this?
Aaron Kolatch a tree that grows longer in a pot generally becomes root bound and the roots circle and girdle. A smaller tree will not have reached that state in the pot (yet). Timing is everything.
Wait a minute. There is suppose to be only one scientific name, and as many common names as people wish? Anyways thanks for the video. Sycamores are always demanding one's attention, when you see one you give it an extra long look. Good working products/tools are always welcomed.
That’s an interesting Taught line hitch you’re using Blair, 3 under 1 over? I’ve always been told 2 under 2 over was the standard. Of course my father always did 2 under 1 over but told me “do as I say not as I do” haha. Never seen 3 & 1 before. But maybe I’m just seeing things?
@@arboristBlairGlenn I always try to and in So Cal, sometimes they never truly go 100% dormant and still have their leaves. Hang on. In some areas or lose them and in a week new leaves starting.

Sycomore means "fig-mulberry" in Greek. There are also a bunch of Australian trees locally called sycamores, which are completely unrelated. What a mess.

If that's 80 years old I wonder how old the monster Sycamore in my front yard is. It's not quite that tall (maybe 70) but it's got a trunk that dwarfs any sycamore I've ever come across. I haven't measured but i'm guessing it's about 8 feet in diameter and about 15-20 feet around. As much as I love the shade it provides..... If you don't absolutely LOVE picking up leaves, don't ever plant a Sycamore in your yard!

I charge a little extra for sycamores... try chewing gum while you chip them, it helps with the tricombs. That tree cleaned up very nicely!
