I have a kind of complicated relationship with the Despicable Me franchise. While I'm not the biggest fan of the recent films of this franchise, I have to admit that the second Despicable Me movie was still okay. And its international dubs are actually pretty engaging.

Heres a fact about the Norwegian dub! In the scene where El Machos son says "I was just about to get a cookie", it was translated as "Jeg skulle til å ta en kake". They translated cookie into the Norwegian word for cake.
What is Cookie in Norwegian? Småkake? Cookie? Something else?
They might have used an "incorrect" word if it fits better (reasons for that may have been time/lip flaps/word flow/ unwilling to use too foreign of a word)
8:43 in the Brazilian dub, this dude name is "Bundovsky", wich comes from "bunda" (the Portuguese for "butt") and the Russian suffix ovsky. The Gru calls him "Peidovsky", wich comes from "peido" (Portuguese for "fart")
Which makes it even funnier for Russian speakers, considering the meaning of piedo- root in this language

3:08 that's most likely because the Mexican cuisine is not as popular in Russia, so barely any kids know what "churros" are.
its not very popular in any eastern european country. in poland, all we eat is soup, or food from around the region, i think the most exotic food we eat are bananas or pancakes xD
@@solidarnosc14 well, it's not like this in Russia. There are plenty of popular Asian cousine places (Japanese, Chinese, Vientamese), a lot of Middle Eastern and Caucasus region cuisine, lots of "pop-Italian" places (pizza/pasta, etc.), but the Mexican cuisine just doesn't work there for some reason. I've seen a couple of good Mexican restaurants in Moscow around early 10's, but they're closed now.

Curious to know how the translators handled the English word play :)
I noticed a lot of the wordplay actually works the same in German because we share similar-sounding or related words with the same meaning.
Only pronounced and grammatically expressed differently, the base words are often related, which is why many puns translate well into German.

in the bulgarian dub, they called the wererabbit " the rabbit vampire" , i got flabbergasted after realizing that some time ago, i guess they didnt have good word play or translation when they dubbed it at the time.
In the Castilian Spanish dub, Gru says "Mierda pincha en un palo" ("Shit, stick on a stick") instead of "My name is Mololongo", so the Spaniards say shit
fun fact: Pierre Coffin The Voice Of Minions Is A French Dude. So In The French Version Pierre Coffin Voiced French Line For The Minions In All Of The Movies.

Okay, dude. Once again. The correct name of the "Mexican version" is Latin American dubbing, not Mexican. Even if the dubbing was done in Mexico, it is Latin American dubbing. You literally called the Hazbin Hotel dub "Mexican Version" when the dub was done in Chile. It has been repeated to you several times, please take this into consideration.

In the Lithuanian dub, they translated Ramsbottom to Vrotlopas, or at least that's what I heard, it just translates to Vrot - not a word, lopas - dumbass, but it's not a swearword. And at the end of that scene, after Ramsbottom corrects Gru over the incorrect name, Gru responds with "Lopas ir Afrikoje lopas", and that means "A dumbass is still a dumbass in Africa

In the Lithuanian dub (1&2 Despicable Me) Minions are for some reason called a unique word "Pimpačkiukai" and "Pimpalas" is a vulgar word for penis. They later changed it to "Pakalikai" which just means "Minions".
and in the czech version how the minions have the farting guns and they say "padoo" (or whatevher they say) in czech it sounds like they say "prdů" that means fart so it sounds like the minions are repeating after gru

Fun favt: (not related to the video) In the polish murder drones dub, the episodes names have references to Jesus. Episode 3 is named "Bal wszystkich śCiętych" after a holiday "wszystkich śWiętych" (day of all saints or smth) and the episode 7 name is literally "the last supper "
And here is some of the things from czech (CZ/SK) dabing:
AVL is translated as "Anti-VelePadoušská-Liga" which means "Anti-BigVillains-League"
The name of the film(Despicable Me) is translated as "Já padouch" and that means "Me Villain"
Minions are translated as "Mimoni" which literally means stupid creatures
Minions = Mimoni, It’s literally sameo thing bruh 💀

second despicable me movie is probably the funniest one even for adults because the minions are mostly absent, the charackter ark of gru is very good too as he starts a relationship and we see him care for his kids more
Portuguese here! The Silas guy's orginal name is Beterabo, which kinda sounds a masculinized version of what we call an eggplant. Gru calls him Mr. Clean-your-butt

3:05 I'm not sure that this is why they replaced "churros" with "beans", but in Russia, both then and now (I learned about this food quite recently, for example), they didn't know what churros was. But at the same time, the word churros itself in Russian looks like a distortion of another word, which is an insult to people from Central and Middle Asia. I'm not sure, but perhaps because of these two factors they decided to replace it with another word.

Can you please also talk about "voiceovers" (not dubbing) , I remember that I watched the film in my language (Ukrainian , in the early 2010s unfortunately dubbing was not always used) and this is exactly how I heard it . And I am sure that they are also interesting and probably more accurately translated , since they are older and contain less slangs .
[I checked and the phrases are different there (Both the first and second parts) , Of course , maybe something is not so funny , but the phrases are more accurate to the original and the names have not been changed .]
