We certainly can prove to any REASONABLE person that most of the claims (especially the miracle claims) in the Bible are false but in all honesty, it's pointless telling that to a Christian theist because all they will then do is sit back, fold their arms and say "Right, OK, go on then, prove the claims in the Bible are false" and then you will spend a load of time and energy trying to explain it all, buying them some time, when really, the onus is on those who believe all of the claims of the Bible to prove it. It's not for us to prove the Bible claims are wrong anymore than if someone said "Hey, you've got an invisible, intangible, inaudible and undetectable elephant in your room" that you would need to prove you haven't, even if you could. You don't need to do anything, THEY have to provide evidence for their elephant claim, not you, don't waste your time. We don't need to state that the Bible is wrong, even if it is. Reality doesn't always obey pattern and sense. We get surprises sometimes.
@@George89999 Where in the philosophy of atheism is it required to determine the truth? Nowhere that I know of. To my knowledge the philosophy has no clear stated goal. Maybe searching for truth is just your own personal goal. Whether it's mine or not, why do you care? Why should I even care for that matter?
@@George89999 I am definitely unconcerned with a lot of truths that are not important. It's a fact that some regular polygons can be constructed with straight edge and compass alone and some can't. Not only am I unconcerned with non-important truths, I'm also unconcerned with some important truths that I will never have time for. I have less than 40 years left to live.
So am I concerned with ALL truths? Heck no. Am I concerned with some? I'd say probably. Some important and some trivial. The trivial ones based on preference. Perhaps the important ones based on preference as well.
But if you want to have a feel good slogan saying you care about truth, you may want to think about whether you care about all truths, or just some. There are an overwhelming number of truths out there and one does not have time for them all.
But ultimately, if you can't prove the nihilist wrong, why should you care about truth anyway? Unless you have a preference for it.
