  • Here you go Mr house just be careful not to drive too much into this it is a very low drive amplifier I went ahead and upgraded it with some brand new SD 1446 transistors maybe this will give a better chance of it being able to be driven into a little bit better. hope you enjoy bud 73 s

You might get 300 out of the unit if the input voltage goes high enough - I use one of the old KL200P boxes and a Pyramid PS12KX Power Supplies it normally keys 70-80 and swings to 100 or a little more. I thought conditions must have really been right my power supply was suppose to have all kinds of protection and I did not have a volt-meter to monitor the voltage, but all the sudden I dead keying 150 and swinging to right at 200 watts and the pre-amp starts acting crazy then is shuts down. LUCKILY the power supply dropped to 10 volts and has to be repaired but no damage to the output on the amp great little boxes low watts in good output and cool amp and a price that is hard to beat.

Max of those transistors is 70 watts rms each so you may be able to drive 140 max with 10 in but that
would make it a disposable amp lol, with 4 watts in and 100 out it will last a long time

Did you check the SWR looking into the amp after replacing the pills? Mine is showing 2.5-3:1 on the high power mode.

You have any idea why the pre-amp circuit fails so much? I have replaced several of the BF199 Transistors that fail and show as two back to back diodes when tested on the component tester.Got one of the KL300P like the one on here.replaced the bad BF199 still no pre-amp so got to check it out further relay is clicking so not the relay. I like the pill type boxes simple circuitry cannot say the same for their newer 4 mosfets TO220 Style more parts and more to go wrong.

Just because the relay is clicking doesn't mean it works. I have found quite a few of these with RM's that have failed. Put an ohmmeter across the switching terminals to check whether the contacts are okay.

Do you still repair RM Italy Amplifiers?

I have a Texas Ranger TR-966 with a MOSFET modification. It does 8 watts RMS and 30 PEP. Can I safely drive this amp the way the radio is without adjusting the radio? I have heard I should drop my radio back to 4 watts RMS but I really don't want to if I don't have to. Thanks!

mine the swr on my radio kept growing until it was 1.6 so i pulled it, Any Ideas, im not paying 100$ to fix a 100$ amp lol

I complwtly understand lol. One thing you could do is replace the ceramic disc caps ontop of transformer with silver dip mica.... also try diff coax length for lowest swr

whats funny is this final revision already has that factory and has the sd1446 pills i seen people upgrade them to... as far as my knowledge takes me so far, is its in the pass through and the on circuit, so them two tiny ceramic filter caps in the front are in the same position old amps would have a tunable cap to set the swr.... Im gonna change them and see what happens... Funny thing is swinging 2 to 16 watts into it when they say 10 max never hurt it, it seems what i did is RM actually says no more than 50 watts pass through, so running the stryker full power i guess is a no no as well... Well lets see if its just the passthrough, or maybe i did cook the cap on the transformer, its covered in wax so i cant see it... @@1883GotDown

People forget that these amps are not high drive and blow the pills.

The two 100r resistors that come off the bottom of the outputs... what would cause these to glow!?
And T2, it looks like simply 2 metal tubes with ferrite cores, but bridged on one end with solder, and the other end has a big cap on it.. Confusing!? If it's bridged on one end, IE a short, what is the point of a capacitor on the other side? I'm referring to a rm403, but not much different really.
