  • Former Real Madrid and Juventus man Zinedine Zidane has had one of his last acts on a football field immortalised in stone. Zidane was infamously sent off in the 2006 World Cup final - his last game for France - for headbutting Italy's Marco Materrazzi in the chest.
It meant one of the most gifted footballers in French history was not able to take a penalty in the shoot-out, which Italy went on to win. And Algerian-born artist Adel Abdessemed has designed the sculpture which has been posted in front of the Centre Pompidou modern art museum in the French capital.

    How Zidane will be remembered:
Helping France win the 1998 world cup. His career in Juventus and Real Madrid. Reaching the final on 2006 World Cup. The headbutt. And his career as manager of Real Madrid.
    How Materazzi will be remembered:
"Oh that's the guy who got headbutted by Zidane."

Materazzi won 2006 world cup with Italy SCORING IN THE FINAL and Uefa Champions League with Mourinho's Inter in 2009/10

@@culturalgarden He did. But most people will remember him for being headbutted.

@@Frserthegreenengine I don't really think so...maybe in France. In Italy he is remembered for having won many titles (16 considering domestic and internationals titles with INTER) and of course for that episode, but more to have scored 1-1 in the final and 1 of the 5 penalties that allowed Italy to win World Cup. He was been one of the best italian defender of all time as well

@@culturalgarden I think in most other countries, here in the UK if I ask people who Materazzi was they usually think of the headbutt, and others don't know who he is.

@@Frserthegreenengine I don''t think so bro...every people know him as one of the most important italian defender in early 2000 excatly like Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro...maybe you're asking to very young people...I can assure you he played champions league every year for 10 years with Inter in 00s . He won several titles. He never was unkown player for sure

Love it lol. People may think it's disrespect but I'm sure the artist is a big fan of the footballer and was fascinated by the infamous Zidane's last act.

The artist and the people who promote the artist are spreading a false story, that Materazzi told Zidane a racial slur. This is false. This artist and his promoters are worse than Zidane was in that moment.

You must not know the full story, materazzi talked shit about Zidanes mother, I think he said some death threat. Yes it wasnt sportsman like but it's honestly to defend his honor and family. Materazzi was a piece of shit and honestly the dude is only famous for getting his rib cage fucked up by Zidane.

actually metashitty was no man , a girl imitating a man ....metashitty provoked him ...first by telling him that he wants his shirt....zidanes replay was cool "after the match you can have it" but then mateshitty thought thats not provoking him...so he touched a sensitive topic (mother and sister).......mateshitty then fall like a girl even worse then neymar.

Absolutely, violent, outside a football pitch this could be attempted murder, an act of a criminal
