I was obsessed with this song as an insecure 15 year old but when someone told me it was crap I stopped listening to it. Well... 6 years later I come back and realise that asshole was wrong all along and this song remains legendary!
Yep --- tasteful in every note he chooses and never a blur of worthless slop like most guitarists tend to do, mainly speaking of Malmsteen and his entourage of clones.
@@leighburne4098 yes in a concert performance he can sometimes lose his disciplined style. I’ve seen him live maybe 20 times. Sometimes he was perfect Blackmore and sometimes he was just wanking around all night. Depends on his mood. But since he is not a “rote” player you will get that
That bass line starts the funky, the opening verse with Coverdale adds the soul, and the boys bring the driving rock. This rivals ANY song in the Deep Purple catalogue. Wow.
TebowTheNextKilmer I've always loved the funky elements too; plus I think that David Coverdale's and Glenn Hughes' voices blend so well! A perfect mix! Cheers, Jerry
Absolutely. Best drummer in R&R for me by some margin. Whenever people start rabbiting on about Bonham being the all time greatest, I like to refer them to Paicey’s work on Burn or Lay Down, Stay Down. Don’t get me wrong, I always liked Bonzo, but having seen them both back in their heyday Bonham was simply not on the same level as Paice. No doubt kicked the hornet’s nest with that comment, but I’ll stand by it ‘till I turn to dust.
I remember when I listened to this I was only 16, the good old days, there was no hate in between. God help me live trough these new generations... 76 good year. I remember exactly i was on the Bicentennial culminated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, with the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence when it came out, my dad (now dead), called me on my telephone that he bought me the album record. God save us all. I listened to this also when my 2dn wife died and i clearly remember the days... Thank u deep purple for everything your George
Seems to me like David Coverdale sounded better in Purple than he ever did in Whitesnake. He just has this massive powerful voice that totally knocks your socks off.
Henry Noel I think he started to depend on the higher register singing stuff too much rather than just using it to really give certain parts of songs a boost.
I don't know of a better drummer in this song. I'm 55 year young and just started listening to Deep Purple ( outside of "Smoke on the water ") .Talented group they are!
It's long been my favourite on the album and one of my favourite Deep Purple songs. All the band members play their part so well on this but for me Coverdale steals the show with his vocal style.

My one of those most favourite rock songs of the 70's. I was only then 15 and now I am about to turn to 55 and still keep on listening to one of these evergreen ones. Long live rock music.
I was 12 years old when my friends gave me this album for my birthday! And I still like it soooooooo much!!! Especially this song! Amamzing DEEP PURPLE!!!
You can see here that David was at the very least, an indirect influence on Chris Cornell. Coverdale's influence on future singers is quite underestimated.
Great Great track from the Burn Lp. Best mk3 purple album by far. And Blackmore..man!! For me he stands out among the rest cos he played heavy metal, early speed metal, hard rock, psychedelic rock, pop rock guitar unlike some of his peers. When he's on fire he was nearly untouchable but downside when hes moody his playing is kinda crap at least to me.

One of the most underrated songs in rock history!
Vladimir Ghahramanyan
yes, it is true
Seriously!! ... super catchy!
One of the 5 most important bands IMO (every lineup) ... yet so underrated in the USA ... but elsewhere around the world extremely popular
Always loved it !!! Weaned on Deep Purple !!!
The suttle use of the Tambourine is so perfect.
I was obsessed with this song as an insecure 15 year old but when someone told me it was crap I stopped listening to it. Well... 6 years later I come back and realise that asshole was wrong all along and this song remains legendary!

assholes are full of shit -no surprise
Stop listening to assholes

Don't allow naysayers to tell you 💩. Burn was a hella fantastic album.
What a killer song! And what a killer drummin' by Ian Paice! This is one of the greatest Rock songs of all time!
Damn right about the drumming. Superb.
Totally agree. David Coverdale, Glen Hughes-they were awesome for Deep Purple to pick. I totally love Ian Gillan , and all the original cast.
Another favorite is Child in Time.

My pops bought the album in 74 when he was 12 and now I have it in my collection! I crank this entire album! It effing rocks!
David Coverdale...What a singer and a gentleman! My respect, kind Sir...
Another great Blackmore solo. His tone and style on this one is pure magic as only The Master can do. Nobody can touch him, nobody.

Indeed. It's always been my favorite by them. Well, after Stormbringer. The metalhead in me always preferred that one.

Very true
Henry Noel I think he started to depend on the higher register singing stuff too much rather than just using it to really give certain parts of songs a boost.
Tom McMusic agree 100%. Hate his high pitch stuff.
Kinda like Steven Tyler or James Hetfield where his voice got scratchier over time.
Favorite song on the album --- love the guitar synth!
Fr, the earliest examples just hit so different
Absolutely beautiful.. nothing should be in the spacing.. but a respect to the greatest band of 20 and 21st century!
One of the best albums ever . Coverdale sublime .Deep purple sublime
It was rainy all day and dark and as soon as this song started playing, sun started shining brightly. Coinsidence? I think not lol
This album is TRULY A CLASSIC! There is so many great songs on this album! 5 stars! I've owned a few copies of this album! True classic ROCK!

You feel there's no tomorrow
As you look into the water below

When, I don't know
Sail away tomorrow
Sailin' far away
To find it steal or borrow
I'll be there someday, yeah

To sing the same old song
The story's been told, now I'm gettin' old
Tell me, where do I belong?
Feel like I'm goin' to surrender
Hard times I've had enough
If I could find a place, to hide my face
I believe, I could get back up
Time will show
When, I don't know
